Today in Germany is a public holiday. I took the opportunity to take a trip and visit the famous site of Externsteine, an ancient megalithic complex just over 20 km from Paderborn.

The day was a bit uncertain. However luckily didn't rain. In this picture, we can actually see a very nice sky :) However the sky darkened suddenly and then, magically, cleared just as suddenly.

At the entrance, a crocodile-shaped trunk welcomes the visitors.

In the background the famous stones (here you can actually see a very dark sky ... )

And here the Externsteine as seen from the adjacent lake shore.

To reach the top you have to go up some very steep stairs

but, from the top, the view is breathtaking !!

A bridge connects two stones and allows to easily reach the top of a second stone.

Obviously, even to go down, the stairs are very steep !

At the base of one of the stones there was a bas-relief. It is very beautiful and represent the deposition of Jesus Christ.

and finally a photo of the surrounding nature, in all its beauty.

The stones date back to the megalithic period, so they are very ancient. The surrounding park is well maintained.
