LISTEN TO EVERYONE by Tom Antion

When you are speaking at an event that has multiple speakers,
try to listen to as many of the other speakers as you can.
In particular, don't miss the keynote or general session speakers.
By doing this you are able to add a polish to your talk and to the
event as a whole. It also might save you some embarrassment.

I'll never forget many years ago I was doing a breakout session for
a big real estate company. We then went to the closing general
session an hour later, the big shot keynote speaker made a fool of
himself by using material I had gone over already. People were
looking at me and winking. There were only two concurrent sessions
going on and it would have been really easy for the keynoter to stop
by and check out the breakouts, or at least find out what I and the
other breakout session speaker were going to be talking about. Besides
listening to as many speakers as you can, make sure your material is
really unique which will help guard you from embarrassing situations.

2. Advanced Presentation Skills Article

WORDS THAT SELL by Tom Antion

The title of this article is the same as a famous book by
Richard Bayan that is used by marketing professionals around the
world. As I was looking through it the other day I realized that
the same kinds of words could be used in presentations to get the
same kinds of effects.

We want to sell our ideas don't we? We want to increase our
credibility don't we? We want to move people to action don't we?
These are all the things that good advertising copywriters try to
do in print with their words. Judiciously using the phrases in this
book will give you a more scientific way to accomplish the goals of
your speech. You will have specific words and word phrases to pick
from to get a particular response from the audience.

Example:
Let's say you are telling the audience about a good resource that you
want them to check out. You want to persuade them to seek it out and
take advantage of it. You might turn to the "Words that Sell" book and
go to the "Informative" section. There you would find words and word
phrases that mean valuable and informative.

You might say : "This resource will:
=> take the guesswork out of . . .
=> expand your knowledge . . .
=> help to alter your perceptions of . . .
=> keep you abreast of . . .
=> give you new insight . . .
=> give you the hard facts . . .
=> keep you ahead of the game . . .

There were 33 phrases in that section alone. This book will simplify
your work especially when you are searching for just the right thing to
say to make a particular point. In addition, it is an indispensable tool
to have around when you are writing copy for your promotional material
and website.

3. HUMOR TECHNIQUE
=====================================================
FAKE FACTS AND STATISTICS by Tom Antion

Stating falsehoods as if they are absolutely true is another fun way
to play with the audience. However, you must make the statements
obviously false by your words and your facial expressions. When you
use this technique in this fashion, you don't want to leave any doubt
in the audience's mind whether you are being funny or not.

Deadpan expression, or keeping a straight face, is a good technique to
couple with fake facts and statistics. Also, you should really, really
sound like you are trying to convince the audience that what your saying
is true. This overemphasis on the sound of truth also tells the audience
you are lying.

One time I was doing a Secretaries Day function. I used an extremely
serious voice when I told them that scientific studies had been conducted
indicating that the only reason executives became executives was because
they couldn't make it as secretaries. They loved it.

Another good technique to build up your joke is to use official sounding
sources for the information. "A study done for the Alaskan Pipeline Workers
Union indicated that 97.2 percent of Alaskan Pipeline Workers wear No Nonsense
panty hose."

When using this type of humor use "exact numbers" which add an extra comic emphasis.

Oh BTW 98.75 percent of Ezine publishers that weigh over 200 pounds where garter belts.
. . . . hahahahaha Don't even write me about this. LOL

PUT OUT . . . THE EASY WAY Part II by Tom Antion

In the last issue ( http://www.antion.com/ezinebackissues.htm v2n13 )
I told you that for best marketing effect you need to give before you
get. Now we are going to learn about a simple, but very powerful
Internet tool that will allow you to give tons with very little effort
or investment.

Sequential autoresponders now automate the giving process and allow
you to multiply yourself by thousands of times with a few keyboard strokes.

First let me give you an example to explain how a basic autoresponder works:

Let's say you get the same question from customers over and over
and you and your staff are spending way too much time on the phone or
sending emails back to the people asking the question. You set up an
autoresponder that has the answer to the question and you publicize it
to your customers.

For instance, you can send an email to linktrade@antion.com
and immediately get a return email giving you instructions on trading
links with my website. I don't have to deal with these emails, or do
anything until someone actually puts up a link and requests that I
reciprocate. This saves me an enormous amount of time.

Now let's up the ante a little and use a specific type of autoresponder
as a proactive sales tool. A sequential autoresponder will follow up with
additional responses for as long as you want. When a customer requests
information the autoresponder replies immediately as usual. Then, at
intervals you set, the autoresponder sends another sales message, and
another, and another until the prospective client "buys or dies."
(actually they can click to stop the emails any time they want).

It's pretty much common knowledge that several prospect contacts are
usually required to make a sale and that most people fail because they
don't make the follow ups. Now, this whole process can be automated.

Here's an example of how I have used this fantastic e marketing tool:
I put out a FREE seven day minicourse on emarketing. About 1200 people
signed up for this free course the first day. The autoresponder
dutifully sent them one piece of the course each day. If you would like

Results: About seven thousand dollars in sales the first week from
giving away a free course.
Cost: about $15.00 per month for the sequential autoresponder.
