STARTLING STATISTICS by reader Silvana Clark
Tom: Here's an idea I use:
During a presentation, I might read a few startling statistics or
facts. This is information that I don't include on my handout.
For example, in my presentation on stress at work, I'll say, "You
think you have it bad at work? Let me read you some of the
entries that were submitted to find "The Worst Boss in America."
I read 3-4 and everyone laughs. Then I'll add, If any of you
would like a free copy of this, they are on the back table."
Naturally, my business cards, books and tapes are also on the
back table. People want a copy of the information I presented and
then naturally look over the other material on the table.

TAG TEAM SIGNALS by Tom Antion & Judy Shaw
Team presentations can be very effective in adding flare and
interest to a presentation. Male/female teams are especially
interesting because you get the male and female perspectives on a
particular topic which gives you the best chance of connecting
with mixed audiences. Sometimes both team members are on stage at
once and sometimes one is in the audience while the other is on
stage.
I got a note from reader Judy Shaw on how she uses signals from
the opposite team member. Here are her words to describe it:
"My ex and I did a lot of public speaking together many years
ago. The one in the audience kept the time and momentum going.
Our hidden signals to each other included the following:
=> Speed up / move on = four fingers 'playing' together.
=> 10 minutes left = a lightly closed hand over the opposite
wrist.
=> 5 minutes left = an open hand over the opposite wrist.
=> A tapping finger on the opposite wrist = conclude / wrap it
up.
=> A bit of rubbing an ear lobe = speaker is starting to drone
and can put listeners to sleep so zap it up.
=> One open hand on top of the other open hand, palms up, =
expand upon that thought, audience needs clarification.
Yes, we had more signals, but this can give you an idea that
works."

3. HUMOR TECHNIQUE

HOW TO PICK ON SOMEONE Part II by Tom Antion

Last issue http://www.antion.com/ezinebackissues2001.htm v3n19 I
gave you permission to pick on people and some tips on how to set
it up so you don't get yourself in trouble or cause someone to be
embarrassed.
In this issue I'm going to give you some ways to work your
insults into your talk.
1. READ FROM A NEWSPAPER/MAGAZINE -- Pick up a local or national
newspaper the day of your presentation. Tape your insult lines
inside the paper and keep it hidden (you don't want someone
borrowing the newspaper).
SAMPLE: "I saw a headline about your company in today's business
section. Joe Smith announces his retirement. ABC Company stock
rises sharply."
2. PICK A TOP PRODUCER FROM THE CROWD AND MAKE A SERIOUS POINT
WITH A JOKE AT THE END.
SAMPLE: "The competition for good work force talent is fierce.
Take Fred there for instance. Two big firms are fighting over his
talents. . . .The loser gets him."
3. READ FROM A FAKE LETTER. -- One idea would be to have the
letter be from a top producer that is on vacation.
SAMPLE: "I got a letter from one of your salespeople the other
day
(hold up fake letter) apologizing because she could not be here
to listen to my presentation. She also went on to say how much
she misses the peace and tranquility of working with the blue
team. (you may get a laugh here at least from the blue team
members). In fact she said, "I'm going to miss them so much that
I plan on naming my first ulcer after them."
4. HAVE THE MEETING ORGANIZER INTERRUPT YOU -- The organizer can
either whisper to you or hand you a note.
SAMPLE: "It appears that a call just came in from the White
House. President Bush wanted to thank Joe for the ideas on
improving the economy. He said," Joe, taking business advice from
you is like getting a kidney transplant from a bed wetter."
Don't be afraid to pick on a few people. Do it right and they'll
love you because being teased (roasted) is an honor.

Once you've decided which product your going to sell online, the
next most important decision you'll make is which shopping cart
system to buy. It is perhaps the most important single decision
you'll make in your online marketing career. This is because:
* You're sort of stuck with the decision for a long time.
* If you buy into a system that isn't adequate, it can cost you
money. BIG money.
* There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of off-the-shelf
alternative products out there vying for your money, time or
both.
* Even if you decide you've made a mistake, switching shopping
cart systems is really difficult.
I know. I learned the hard way. When I started in this business I
