HANDOUT TIPS by Tom Antion

=> USE A LARGE FONT. It makes more impact and is easier to read.
It also makes you handout larger which makes it appear more
substantial.

=> LEAVE LOTS OF WHITE SPACE. I had a complaint recently that
said there was not enough space to write notes. I usually deliver
very high content so this was clearly a mistake on my part in not
leaving enough space for notes.

=> PUT CONTACT INFORMATION ON EVERY PAGE. You never know when
people will tear out a page or photocopy a single page of your
handout. Putting your info on every page makes sure whoever sees
any page of your handout can contact you.

=> PUT IMPORTANT RESOURCES ON EVERY PAGE. If you want people to
keep your handout make sure each page has some important resource
that an audience member cannot do without. When you put all the
resources on one page it makes it easy for someone to tear it out
and throw the rest of your handout away.

=> USE A TEAR OFF ACTION ITEM PAGE. Make it the last page so it's
easy to tear off at the beginning of the seminar or speech. Have
the attendees use it for those special aha's they get. You can
then have them say some of their items aloud which reinforces the
value you are giving.

2. Advanced Presentation Skills Article

BALANCE YOUR MOUTH AND YOUR VISUALS by Tom Antion

I got a nice compliment from the self publishing guru Dan Poynter
who attended one of my Internet Marketing seminars. He said,
"Tom, you have a really nice balance of speaking and visuals."

This was very pleasing to hear because it's exactly what I teach
in the "Wake 'em Up Speaking System." During the course of a
grueling, high content day, I:

1. Spoke
2. Used a variety of video CDs which I paused and discussed when
appropriate.
3. Used a white board on the opposite end of the room (I made
people stand up and walk to the back of the room to see that
segment.
4. Used a comical prop to make a point.
5. Used other props as demonstrations and also made people stand
up and move to another part of the room to view them.
6. Used audience input.

Sometimes I use dueling flip charts. Here's a variety of
positions that will keep them interested:

=> Two or more flip charts at the front of the room

=> Many spread around the room

=> One or more at the front and the others at the back of the
room, or

=> Several at the back of the room.

The idea is to vary as much as possible the type of material the
audience is seeing and hearing in an effort to keep their
attention. Don't go too long without making a significant change
in delivery technique.

This technique works for keynote length presentations all the way
up to multiday workshops.

3. HUMOR TECHNIQUE
=====================================================
DOLLAR BILL GAG by Tom Antion

Whenever you have any need to speak about money in your
presentation here is a simple gag that always gets a good laugh.

EFFECT:
It looks like you printed money

SUPPLIES:
Brand new One Dollar Bills
Padding Glue
Two small boards
Two C Clamps or some bricks

Basically you are making a pad of money so you can tear a bill
off the pad. The top edge of the pad is red or green which gives
the impression that is was printed like a tablet. The color of
the edge is simply the color of the glue you use to make the pad.

DELIVERY IDEA:
I say "Email marketing is just like printing
money. In fact, I just printed some [show the pad of bills]. They
look really good don't they?" [tear a few off and give them to
audience members] . . . Then I say, "That's because they are."
Then I briefly explain that I just padded some up with printer's
glue. Usually you get a little laughter at this point. Then I go
for the big laugh line.

I say, "You should see the look on the bellman's face when I tip
him." [gets big laugh] You could substitute waiter or waitress
for bellman if it's more appropriate.

Just after I deliver the above line about the bellman I hold up
one of the bills with a quizzical look on my face (like the
bellman would have). I then mention something about the bellman
getting out the pen used by cashiers to tell if money is
counterfeit.

HOW TO DO IT
Go to the bank and get about 50 brand new, crisp one dollar
bills.

Make sure the bills are lined up with each other perfectly.
Sandwich the bills between two small, straight boards. The top
edge of the bills should align with the edge of the boards.
Clamp the boards together with C Clamps, or put some heavy bricks
on them. Brush on a few layers of printer's glue (purchase
from print supply house or borrow some from your local printer .
. . you could have your friendly printer do the entire padding
process for you if you want.)

Let it dry and you've got yourself a gag that you can use for 10
to 20 presentations depending on how many bills you give out at
each.

BUILD YOUR EMAIL LIST WITH A LIST PARTNER by Tom Antion

If you've been reading "Great Speaking" for long, it's no
surprise to you the value I place on having a "Great" email list.
It allows you to keep your name in front of your target audience
with virtually no cost involved and can be a "Great" money
generator that helps you sell your products and services.

I've just discovered a totally free service that lets you get
others to help you build your list. When I say totally free I
mean the use of the software is free AND EXTREMELY EASY. You
decide how much you are willing to pay other folks to send you
subscribers.

Outside services charge me anywhere from 15 to 25 cents per
subscriber which is certainly a reasonable price to pay for a
qualified lead. I decided to pay $200.00 per thousand (20 cents
per subscriber) to people who send me subscribers through my list
partner program. Let me explain.

I signed up at http://www.listpartners.com They provide me with
the complete associate system to allow others to send me
subscribers. I don't have to install any software at all. It all
runs on their servers. They track who sent me the subscriber and
how many they sent. At the end of the month I send a check to
each affiliate who sent subscribers.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
If someone wants to get paid to send me subscribers, all they
have to do is sign up for the program (see link below). Then they
either put the link I give them on their website in a prominent
place or send it to people in their own ezine or they can put it
in their handouts even if they don't have a website. When someone
clicks on the link and signs up the subscription is credited to
them and they get a check each month (If the commission is less
than $30.00 it is carried over to the next month.)
