VULNERABILITY by Tom Antion
I learned a great tip, at the recent National Speakers Association convention
while standing around talking shop in the hotel lobby. John Meluso, <pluslife@juno.com>
spent some time with me and noted that I was not showing any vulnerability at all near the
beginning of my program. I would roll along and then tell a signature story at the END
of my talk that bared all. John, pointed out to me that being the hard charging kind of
speaker that I am, that I probably have been alienating many of the more sensitive audience
members. It is likely that my style ran over them right from the start and caused them to retreat
for cover, thus making them very distant from me emotionally. Because of his astute observation,
I will change the order of some of my material to better connect with more subdued audience
members.

An old boy coal miner friend of mine once told me, "The schoolhouse door is always
open." John, I want to thank you for reminding me that we all can get better.

PRACTICE ALOUND AND WITH AN AUDIENCE

Practice, practice, practice. The reason you have heard it over and over and over
is because it is true. Saying your speech aloud into a tape recorder and then listening
critically one time is worth ten silent read-throughs. In the same way, one stand-up
practice in a mock setting with friends and family members as an audience is worth
ten read-alouds. Preparation is more than fact-finding and effective writing. Gaining
the more subtle skills . . .voice control and modulation, paper and equipment handling,
posture and presentation, humor and timing, ease and confidence . . . requires preparation.
Preparation includes practice, "real" practice. heed the coach*S maxim: Practice doesn*t
make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.

3. HUMOR TECHNIQUE

ODD BODY ANGLES by Tom Antion

Do you remember Steve Martin with his "Walk like an Egyptian" routine?
The main reason it was funny was because of the strange body angles. These angles
may have been fine for Egyptian dancers, but hilarious for stand up comics.

I do a routine where I do several sick looking Tai Chi moves. The audience can*t
help but laugh. Charlie Chaplain used the duck footed stance with his arms at his
sides, but hands turned up. He also waddled along.

Although, I am not an advocate of using a mirror in presentation skills training,
this is one time you can experiment in creating funny looking poses by thinking "odd
body angles." You*ll guarantee more laughs with this technique.

Email YOUR WAY TO RICHES . . . WITHOUT BEING A SPAMMER

You can make lots of money while sitting at home with the proper use of Email.
I earned my personal record last month of approximately $24, 500.00 in about 10 days . . .
AND I did not have to get on an airplane to do it. Don*t get me wrong. I love speaking
and travelling, but I also love credit card orders piling up and sending my roommate to
the post office with carloads of product orders.

I use a combination of website and Email to reach each of my target markets. One target
market is, of course, people who need to hire a speaker. They find my website because it
is promoted properly using the techniques I teach in my "dummies" website marketing
consultation. You are my other target market. Either you subscribed to this Ezine, or registered
at my website, or saw me speak and asked to be put on the list, or in one way or the other
allow me to send you this magazine. (You don*t want to send out Email indiscriminately. If
you do, you could get in big trouble for spamming. If a person wants off my list, I try to
remove them personally so they aren*t bothered again.) In addition to the informative articles
I try to give you, I include advertisements for my products and services and advertisements for
other products and services.

I learned how to do this by buying an Internet marketing course for about $200.00 about 7
months ago. The first week I landed three $1000.00 coaching clients and a barter deal for
some graphic arts work worth about $2000.00. The course is put out by a guy named Corey Rudl.
He sells about 5 million dollars worth of product on line each year. You can take a look at the

also bought a sophisticated Email program which saves me hours and hours taking care of my

about $375.00 dollars, but saves me tons of time. They even have free downloadable videos that
teach you how to use the program.

All you have to do is put up a decent website, promote it properly, and create a simple magazine
like this one to keep your name, products and services regularly in front of your target audience.
