Discovered 6,000-Year-Old Shaped Skull from Late Neolithic

A shaped skull estimated to be 6,000 years old has been unearthed during excavation work in the village of Yassihoyuk in the Afsin district of Kahramanmaras, Turkey, an area of crucial importance due to its unique position in the region.
The practice of skull molding, which involves wrapping a child’s skull in one or two pieces of cloth to alter its shape, began in the Chalcolithic period and has persisted to the present day.
Distinctive features of the burial, including its shape, wooden ornaments, and ceramic objects, indicate that the individual buried here had a privileged status over others.
In another tomb dating back to 4,000 BC, belonging to a child, a necklace consisting of 820 beads was found.
