Possible Pyramids at the South Pole? Intriguing Photographs in Antarctica

Science does not dismiss the possibility that Antarctica may have once had a temperate climate. Could certain images taken in Antarctica reveal the presence of pyramids hidden beneath the ice at the South Pole?

If we observe the civilizations that have populated our planet since the dawn of time, the pyramid shape seems to be the most favored by ancient builders and, at the same time, the most enigmatic.

The pyramid was primarily used as a form of architecture in Egypt and by some pre-Columbian civilizations in Central America. However, many contemporary archaeologists continue to discover monumental pyramid-shaped structures in every corner of the world.

In this regard, the most recent discovery was made by Danny Hilman, a senior geologist at the Indonesian Center for Geotechnical Research and a Ph.D. holder from the California Institute of Technology.

Hilman’s is working on the site of Gunung Padang, a hill hidden among the Indonesian volcanoes, which could be the oldest monument ever discovered, believes that the visible structures on the hill are part of a pyramid that could date back more than 9,000 years.

In August 2012, amateur archaeologist Angela Micol announced that she had identified some unknown pyramids through satellite images from Google Earth. The structures visible from above would dwarf the three pyramids on the Giza Plateau. Apparently, some confirmations have come from a preliminary expedition sent to the coordinates of the discovery, where cavities and wells were detected. Moreover, it has been revealed that these formations are labeled as ‘pyramids’ on various ancient maps.

But the real surprise might come from some images taken by a group of explorers climbing the Vinson Massif, the highest mountain in Antarctica, located about 1,200 km from the South Pole. The mountain is about 21 km long and 13 km wide, situated within the Sentinel Range.

The image was taken on December 1, 2010. In the background stands what some observers believe to be a pyramid of non-natural origin. The curious formation is located in an inland area about 18 km from the Antarctic coast.

During the same expedition, another image was taken showing two pyramid-shaped structures near the coast.

Are these particularly precise mountain formations sculpted by nature, or could they be other monuments built by the hands of ancient humans?

A Step Pyramid at the South Pole

However, the photos taken by the explorers are not the only images providing clues to the existence of pyramids beneath the ice at the South Pole. Amid the vast Antarctic ice lies the Princess Elisabeth Station, a Belgian scientific research base that became operational in 2009.

René Robert, a French explorer and photographer, took some truly intriguing images near the base. In the photos, one can see a structure resembling a step pyramid, located right next to the research station.

What is it? A simple natural formation produced by a peculiar erosion of the rock? Or is it the most compelling evidence of the existence of an ancient Antarctic civilization that disappeared long ago?

To view the images, you can use Google Maps at the coordinates -71.95207, 23.346891, and activate the “Photos” feature.

The formations are partially covered in snow, and it is objectively difficult to determine whether they are particularly square and symmetrical mountains or actual pyramids.

But if the formations were to prove to be of artificial origin, it would mean that, in ancient times, the Antarctic continent was home to a civilization as complex as the one that built the pyramids of Giza, and that the ice sheet at the South Pole might be hiding the ancient remains of a lost civilization.

Naturally, the hypothetical construction of such pyramids would date back to a geological period when Antarctica was completely ice-free. In that case, the entire history of humanity would need to be rewritten, as such a discovery would push back the timeline of history by many thousands of years, at least to a time when there was no ice at the South Pole.

An Extremely Ancient Tropical Antarctica

Science does not rule out the possibility that Antarctica may have had a temperate climate in the past. According to a study published in Nature, reported by the BBC website, about 53 million years ago, lush, typically tropical vegetation grew along the Antarctic coast. The proof lies in the remains of pollen and spores recovered by the authors of the study during on-site drilling.

The study also indicates that during that geological epoch, temperatures in Antarctica exceeded 10 degrees Celsius, while in summer they could reach 25 degrees. The reason for this temperature rise has not been fully identified yet, but it was likely triggered by a combination of factors, such as powerful volcanic eruptions and a shift in ocean current circulation.

The Polar Shift Theory is the hypothesis that the rotational axes of a planet have not always been in the same position as they are now or will not remain so in the future.

In other words, the physical poles of a planet have shifted or will shift. This phenomenon is almost always discussed in the context of Earth, but other bodies in the Solar System may have also experienced axial reorientation during their existence.

The effects of such a shift influence major climate changes on most of Earth, such as equatorial regions becoming milder, and temperate zones becoming either more equatorial or more arctic.

Antarctica Ice-Free 15,000 Years Ago?

According to a study by researchers from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, published in the journal Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, the last ice age is believed to have ended around 14,500 years ago.

The study reveals that Europe warmed by 5 degrees Celsius, and the melting of glaciers released nitrous oxide into the atmosphere, further accelerating the process. The researchers state that most of the substance was emitted by plants that began to thrive in the newly warmed areas.

Could a polar shift 14,500 years ago have sent Antarctica to its current polar position, causing a sudden freeze of everything on it?

The only certainty is that this transition coincided with one of the unexplained crises so severe that it marked the divide between two geological eras, the Pleistocene and the Holocene.

The Pleistocene era came to an end, marked by a massive awakening of volcanic activity, terrifying earthquakes, evidenced by the collapse of vaults in most caves worldwide, and immense floods that swept away millions of animals.

There is evidence of chilling mass extinctions around the world. How can we explain this traumatic transition? The theories attempting to explain the cause of a polar shift are numerous:

  • A fast-moving asteroid or comet striking Earth at such an angle that the lithosphere moves independently from the Earth's mantle;
  • A fast-moving asteroid or comet hitting Earth at an angle sufficient to shift the planet’s entire axis;
  • A celestial object with unusual magnetism passing close enough to Earth to temporarily reorient the magnetic field, dragging the lithosphere to a new rotational axis.

Eventually, the sun’s magnetic field resets Earth’s original field once the celestial body moves far enough away to no longer influence Earth;

  • A disturbance in the topography of the boundary layer between the core and mantle, possibly induced by the different rotation of the core and the shift of the axial rotation vector, commands the redistribution of mass in the boundary layer;
  • The redistribution of mass in the mantle due to mantle avalanches or other deformations.

Correlation with the Pyramids of Giza

According to some researchers, the astronomical alignment of the Pyramids of Giza provides further evidence for dating them beyond 10,000 years ago. The Correlation Theory by Robert Bauval and Adrian Gilbert asserts that the construction of the Pyramids of Giza took place before 10,500 BC.

The two researchers discovered that the position of the three main pyramids of the Giza necropolis corresponds to the astronomical configuration of the sky visible in the 10th millennium BC. The three pyramids mirror the three stars of Orion’s Belt. According to the authors, this correlation was intentionally created by the builders of the Giza pyramids.

The reference to 12,500 years ago is significant for Hancock, as the position of the pyramids would indicate the precise moment when an advanced civilization, predating ours, witnessed its decline due to a global cataclysm.

In his book Fingerprints of the Gods, Graham Hancock identifies clues that all point to a specific conclusion. According to Hancock, pyramids were built by every culture on the planet, and their monuments contain more or less evident astronomical configurations.

In this wide-reaching work, Graham Hancock attempts to bring order to the chaos of human prehistory.

Drawing from ancient accounts from numerous populations and comparing them with myths and universal legends, as well as studying maps from ancient times, the scholar hypothesizes the existence of a people endowed with superior intelligence, possessing advanced technologies and detailed scientific knowledge, whose “footprints,” however, were completely erased by a catastrophe of immense proportions.
