I have a tiny dilemma and I like to read some opinions from my voters.
Up till now I have always allowed shareware games to enter the Top 100.
This is a good thing, and I don't intend to change it. However, I have
never checked if shareware games already had their registered versions
released to the public. This may not always be the case. Right now,
Descent is number 1 in the Top 100, and that's fine, but the registered
version of Descent is not released yet. On one hand, I think the Top 100
should not promote games that are not released to the public yet. On the
other hand, the Top 100 should not ignore the immense popularity of such
unfinished shareware games.
Now here's the other part of the dilemma: Up till now I have refused to
let demo versions of games enter the Top 100. Right now, some people are
voting for the demo of Dark Forces and, as always, these votes are
stored in the database, but they are ignored for the Top 100. I think a
retail game should only be in the list when people can find it in the
stores.
The question is, is this fair? Should Descent have been allowed to enter
the chart or not? Should the Dark Forces demo be allowed to enter the
chart or not? And should the answers be both yes or both no, or may one
answer be yes and the other no, or is that unfair?
