Saturday the 10th of December was the deadline for the first great
Internet PC Games Contest. I'm happy to say that it has been a success so
far. No less than 159 free games were made available by publishers for
this contest, the number of voters for the Top 100 went up from 400 to
over 1100 in just a few weeks, and there have been many people who gave
it a try and sent their answers to the (not so easy) 30 questions. No,
I haven't counted them yet. You will hear more about that later. I want
to say again that the list of winners, together with the correct answers,
will be published on, or around, the 21st of December. No correspondence
about the contest will take place before that time. Just be patient...
This week's list is definately a victory for OS/2 games, with Galactic
Civilizations finally pushing Doom 2 away from the #1 position, and
Roids booming in the list as the highest new entry. With regards to the
voters from comp.os.os2.games! I was proud to read that some shop didn't
have GalCiv in their stock until they noticed it was #2 in the Top 100
on the Internet. Then they ordered the game. Now that's what I call a
victory for the Top 100 itself!
Something else about this week's chart worth noting is that the list of
New Contestants has never been so large. There are an awful lot of games
being released just before Christmas. And only some of them will be able
to fight themselves in the Top 100. Keep watching and find out which of
those games are worth buying.
As if I didn't have something better to do I worked on a few improvements
for the Top 100 these last weeks. A new tag {O} has been added for OS/2
games, now that they start to get more and more popular. I also made a
simple WWW page for the Top 100, with the latest editions, the Document,
the History File and the List of 1994. I will update it every monday, so
you can check out these pages if the comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.* groups are a
bit unreliable at your site. Have a look at http://www.xs4all.nl/~jojo.
BTW, you might have noticed that my address has changed recently from
jojo@hacktic.nl to jojo@xs4all.nl. It's just a change of domain name, and
the old address will continue to work properly for another few months.
The last thing I need to mention is that my mailer seems to misbehave
these weeks. Many people did not automatically get a copy of the list.
I am sorry about this and I hope to find the cause of the problem soon.
