Hi again,
I enjoyed the discussion that started as a result of the unusual
load of Falcon 3.0 votes that came in a week ago. Some people
didn't like the idea that I decided to use these votes with a
lesser weight than all other votes. Others complimented me on my
decision and told me that they would have done the same. Now I'm
a bit tired of writing about this, but there are a few things I
should say.
Only the points for Falcon 3.0 that came in on that particular
day one week ago have been reduced in weight. Votes for other
games have never been altered. Any new votes that come in for
Falcon are treated in the normal way. This is because I don't
have the time nor the means to keep track of each individual from
the Falcon 3.0 mailing list.
When something like this happens again, I will follow the same
strategy as before. So when I get another ridiculous amount of
votes for one game in a very short period, I will cut these and
use them with a lesser weight.
I am still convinced that this is the best thing to do, for the
sake of belief and interest in the chart. If you don't agree with
me: think of the more professional chart makers in the world,
like Gallup and Billboard. They have much more complex systems to
weigh unusual data. But don't worry. I don't expect this to
happen again soon.
If have the time, you could take a look at the new version of the
document I just posted to comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.announce. It now
includes the most frequently asked questions, like:
What is the Tip 20?
Can you send me the list every week?
Where can I find this game?
Can I vote for other people?
Can I have a list of all ID's?
and some other questions I have answered many times now.
