Here we are again. It's edition 10 already of this ever-growing global
chart, the Net PC Games Top 100. After ten weeks of getting solid and
stable, our list should now be ready to be presented to more people than
only those who read the newsgroups. From now on, the Top 100 will be
included in Game Bytes magazine, to make a wider audience enjoy the
statistics. (Well, this is what Ross and I agreed upon.) The chart is
also being sent to some paper magazines and game publishers that have an
email address and may just find it interesting to read. If some of you
have a suggestion that includes an email address, I'm all for it.
Some people have sent me useful tips in the past few weeks. One of these
asked for an indication to recognize the shareware games in the list, and
another person likes to see which categories the games are in. If more
readers want this too, just let me know. I might be convinced to spend
some time on it.
One person asked me what makes a game earn a bullet. Well, the policy
goes like this. A game earns a bullet if...
it is on number 1 to 5 and has climbed at least 5 places
it is on number 6 to 10 and has climbed at least 6 places
it is on number 11 to 15 and has climbed at least 7 places
it is on number 16 to 20 and has climbed at least 8 places
etc...
We've experimented with a few different policies in the first ten weeks,
but this one is now almost certain to be the one we stick with.
About the chart this week? Well, the entire top 10 seems to be stuck now,
with only Star Control 2 and World Circuit trading places. But you can
see that X-Wing has entered on 24, which is the highest new entry in our
ten weeks history. It will probably shake it all up in the next few
weeks. Stay tuned!

the Top 100. Let's see if our Unix-system can handle that :)
