As promised, I have a few statistics for you this week. You can see
that, in the Top 100, a new column has been added to the right of the
list. It contains for each game the number of points the game got from
e-mail and News traffic. Interpreting these points requires some
understanding of how the chart is compiled. You can see that the games
that have the most points are not necessarily the ones at the top.
Ultima Underworld 2 for example, got 82 points this week. This amount
allowed the game make an enormous jump from 31 to 14. The games above
have less points, so it can be expected that UW2 will penetrate deep
into the top 10 next week. Especially when you consider that the
support for this game has increased at a rate of 20 points every week.
UW2 can easily hit the top 3 in several weeks, or even be a new number
one. The support for Civilization and UW1 is dropping, so this
shouldn't be too hard.
There is a difference between e-mail points and News points. You can
see this when you look at Laura Bow 2 at number 31 and Quest for
Glory 3 at number 32. QFG3 drops faster than LB2, even when LB2 has
one point less and, logically, should be the one dropping faster. This
is because LB2 got the points via e-mail and QFG3 got it from
measuring the News traffic. The votes sent by e-mail have a much
higher weight (in a 4 to 1 ratio), so LB2's points are worth more.
Take this into account when studying the numbers.
Below you can find a table with figures concerning the number of
voters. On the first row you can find the number of voters that were
added to our database since the beginning. The second row shows the
number of e-mail messages used in every week. This number increased
the first four weeks, since votes are used for four weeks in a row.
The third row shows for each week how many people sent us new votes.
The last row shows the number of people who never voted before. When
starting this chart we hoped to have around 100 voters after 4 weeks.
It appears we have achieved this goal. It's great. We now hope that
the number of messages with new votes per week keeps being 30 or more.
You could help us with that by promoting the chart among friends and
colleagues or just by pinning the chart on a strategic location in
your building.
