Hi everyone,
This is the third edition already of the first international games chart.
We're very proud to read many compliments in the messages we get from you.
Yes, we will keep up the good work, for many editions to come, I hope.
We're also glad to see that our chart system is really working, and that
there are so many of you who take the time to study the chart, type their
votes and send them to us. It's great to experience that people actually
enjoy the results of our efforts.
Let's review some of the messages we got this week (without the names,
because I don't have them here right now, sorry). Someone asked us to
include statistics in the chart, stating how many points the games got
from the voters. We are indeed planning to do such a thing. It will take
some weeks however, because perfecting our software has a higher priority
right now, and for such statistics we want to wait for the number of
voters to have stabilized. Someone else asked us to do a second chart for
Mac games. I'm sure the Mac community would appreciate such an initiative,
but for us it would double the work we have to do. We also don't know if
an international chart for Mac games is justified, considered the much
greater popularity of the PC as a games machine.
Some people brought it to our attention that World Circuit and Formula 1
Grand Prix, both by MicroProse, are just one game with two titles. We
corrected this by putting the two titles together in the chart and we are
glad to find out that people are studying the Top 100 and the Tip 20 so
well. Last but not least, we got a message from Id Software. It asked for
a correction of their name, and they also said that the entire crew would
like to give 5 point votes to Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny. Aren't
we surprised. It's great to get reactions even from developers though.
Here is some latest news concerning the chart and everything around it.
Our program had a problem keeping votes in it's database, that were given
to games with no ID (games that are not in the chart yet). This has been
fixed now. So when you vote for a game that is not in the chart, your vote
is also used for four weeks in a row. When someone sends us his votes, he
will automatically get an e-mail message containing the new Top 100 on the
next Monday. When someone doesn't get a message, it probably means that we
got his votes after the deadline, so he's in for the next week. You only
get one Top 100 edition for one message with votes. Your votes are used
for four weeks, but you will have to get the next editions yourself, if
you don't vote again. When someone's votes have been used for the last
time, he will get a message that asks for new votes. Finally, every
edition of the Top 100 is also uploaded to risc.ua.edu, in the solutions
directory.
The document sent together with the chart has been revised. It has some
more detailed information about the compilation process and the Tip 20,
among other things. As always we are eager to receive any suggestions and
corrections to information in the chart.
