STRANGE DEATHS REPORTED IN MOTHMAN'S HOMETOWN
An unusual "death flap" occurred during the last week of August in Point Pleasant, West Virginia (population 4,637), best known as the "hometown" of the mysterious entity called Mothman.
Four people died under unusual circumstances, all within close proximity to the ruins of the old Silver Bridge, which collapsed on December 15, 1967. The bridge's collapse was foretold by Mothman, and the strange events in Point Pleasant during that time became the subject of the 2002 film, The Mothman Prophecies.
"The body of a Kentucky man, who apparently drowned, has been found after authorities drained a Mason County pond."
"The body of Ricky J. Doss, 37, of Greenup, Ky. (population 1,198) was removed Wednesday," August 27, 2003, "from the pond at the Old Time Camp Ground, said state police Sgt. E.B. Starcher of the Point Pleasant detachment."
"Doss and a companion had been camping at the site when he went into the pond about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday (August 26, 2003) and did not surface, Starcher said."
"Divers and recovery crews from several area volunteer fire departments searched the pond Tuesday to no avail."
"By draining the pond, cadaver-sniffing dogs were able to locate the body, which has been sent to the state medical examiner for an autopsy, he said."
Then an elderly couple were killed in an auto accident on Highway 35, near the site of the old Silver Bridge.
"Charles W. Black, 84, of Henderson, W.V. (population 325), a former resident and business owner of Jackson County, Ohio, and Ella Fletcher, his close friend and companion for several years, died in an automobile accident on Tuesday afternoon near Point Pleasant."
"Charles, a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps (predecessor of today's U.S. Air Force--J.T.) and former mayor of the town of Hartford, W.V., and also the owner of a farm equipment dealership in Jackson, was a 1937 graduate of Oak Hill High School."
"Ella Mae Bechtle Fletcher, 75, of Henderson, W.V., was a retired employee of Holzer Hospital in Gallipolis, Ohio. She was born September 28, 1927 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late James T. and Evelyn (Earnest) Bechtle."
The fourth death in Point Pleasant was reportedly a suicide. "Robert Sanders, 44, of Point Pleasant, was dead on arrival at Pleasant Valley Hospital. He was born February 28, 1959 in Mason County, W.V., son of the late Leon Allen Sanders and Carol Louise See Parsons. He was self-employed as a drywaller."
Curiously, Sanders' father, Leon Allen Sanders, was one of the people killed when the Silver Bridge collapsed on December 15, 1967. (See the Point Pleasant, W.V. Daily Register for August 28, 2003, "Pond drained; man's body found" and "Two individuals dead in a head-on crash on Highway 35." Many thanks to Loren Coleman for these newspaper articles.)
(Editor's Comment: And welcome to Dial M for Monster Week here at UFO Roundup. It was another bumper week for creature sightings.)
MAPINGUARY CHASES TWO JOGGERS IN ARGENTINA
"Two people training for the biathlon last Saturday," August 30, 2003, "along the forested trails of Cerro Termal (hill), and a gaucho (Argentinian cowboy--J.T.) passing through the area on horseback, six kilometers (4 miles) east of Rosario de la Frontera," in northern Argentina, "claim having seen the strange hairy beast, which has been the cause of 20 reports since cattleman Rogelio Martinez made a detailed and fantastic report to the authorities in 2001."
The creature is thought to be a Mapinguary, a kind of South American Bigfoot, usually seen in the rain forests of Brazil and Bolivia. However, for the past six months, the biped, sometimes called the Ucumar, has been sighted around the small city of Rosario de la Frontera, which is located 150 kilometers (90 miles) south of Salta and about 650 kilometers (390 miles) northwest of Buenos Aires, the national capital.
"According to the established facts, the gaucho, surnamed Posadas, in charge of a farm owned by agribusinessman Oscar Farez was crossing the section--high and densely forested--in the early hours when he ran into a strange being standing over 2 meters (6 feet, 6 inches) tall, covered in hair from head to foot, long arms ending in sharp claws, an oval-shaped head, and an enormous mouth with menacing fangs."
"Posadas did not wish to make any statement to El Tribuno, but the parties to whom he retold his experience said that the man, impressed by the giant, got off his mount and reached for the shotgun on the saddle, but the hominid had vanished by the time he looked up again."
"However, biathlete Humberto Sosa, 52, who has won over 100 trophies in national, regional and provincial competitions, did not hesitate to make known his extraordinary experience."
Sosa was "'training with Susana Romano, 32. At around 1700 hours (5 p.m.), upon rounding a curve,' he said, 'we felt the crashing of bushes from the hill. We stopped to see what it could be, and, amid the foliage, we saw it briefly. It was a large animal, some kind of ape, moving with great agility.'"
"'Susana and I exchanged glances as though to confirm what we had just seen was a product of our imaginations or real. We remained still with our eyes riveted toward the place where we'd seen it jump and become lost in the vegetation. We tried to listen, but everything remained silent. Suddenly, all of the birds flew away from something. And once again, with the same speed as before, it jumped.'"
"'It was like a great ape. We were scared and decided to run as quickly as possible towards the unforested area. However, that 'thing' seemed to follow us, running parallel to us some 10 meters (33 feet) down the slope, through the wilderness, which is impossible for a human to do given the thickness of the vegetation. Through the leaves and branches we could see an enormous silhouette, and every so often we could hear timber being violently shattered, which led us to believe that the creature's weight was tremendous.'"
"'I had heard and read people's stories about the beast. I would laugh and I'll admit to not believing anything that was said. What's more, I ascribed all these tales to some sort of collective hysteria or psychosis. However, now I have no doubt that what people said was true, since I experienced this terror in person.'"
Sosa continued, "'It was evident that the creature was following us, and I therefore feared it would attack us. I felt fear for my companion and asked her to run as fast as she could. I told myself that if the situation reached the brink, I'd give my life for her. We ran and ran, always feeling that the animal was moving beside us among the dense underbrush. In a given area where the vegetation isn't quite so dense and the possibility of observing was greater, we stopped to look around us. But the noise stopped and the jumping shadow that had followed us had vanished. In the distance, we could see birds flocked together and frightened by something.'"
"Sosa added that he customarily trains at Cerro Termal in the company of a group of sportsmen. 'This time we were only two, and it was our turn to undergo a traumatic experience. In over 30 years of covering these trails, I've never seen anything like it.'" (See the newspaper El Tribuno of Salta, Argentina for August 31, 2003, "Rosario de la Frontera: two athletes claim seeing strange biped." Muchas gracias a Scott Corrales y Gloria Coluchi para eso articulo de diario. MATAPERRO KILLS FIVE DOGS IN LOTA, CHILE
"Something unknown is prowling Lota and is slaying animals without pity: ducks, hens and now dogs are the victims of a macabre 'entity' which has local researchers of the unexplained beside themselves, collecting background information in order to reach the truth."
"'Given the rigidity of their muscles, I believe they were subjected to such a state of agitation that it could only have been caused by blinding fear, an unprecedented attack or act of aggression.'"
"This is the description offered by a person who found the bodies of five dogs--four pups and a grown bitch--completely exsanguinated (drained of blood--J.T.) from within, minus any traces of liquids or blood inside them."
"Leonardo Torres is the president of the MUFON chapter in Lota, an independent international agency that studies phenomena and is compiling background information- -the deaths, which have been attributed to a 'being' whose name he did not wish to speculate (upon)."
(Editor's Note: Similar attacks took place in Calama, Chile in 2002. They were said to be the work of Mataperro (Spanish for Dogkiller--J.T.), a strange quadrupedal creature that mutilates canines.)
The five dead dogs were found "at a kennel in the vicinity of the Enacar Corporation" and "were in the care of a person who works for the said corporation, turning them into watchdogs. This man, who did not give his name, left some pups locked in the kennel on (Saturday) August 23 (2003), together with a female pit bull to look after them."
"The next day (Sunday, August 24, 2003) the man was gripped by fear when he found them lifeless. He even found one of the puppies sliced in half and another several meters' distance (away)."
"'They were completely dry and dehydrated. The bitch was stiff. I had to break one of her legs to bury her. The strangest thing is that her jaws were clenched, and the puppies were all together, as though piled up...they had two puncture marks, one behind the ear and another in the back of their necks,' said the man, who has 40 years' experience in training dogs and who has never seen anything like this."
"The kennel's gate had been torn, and everything inside was in disarray, even an iron stove weighing several kilos was a meter and a half (5 feet) away from its original position. Torres said the Enacar compound is very large and that it possesses ideal tunnels in which anything can hide."
Torres also pointed out that he had collected "statements from people who claim having seen it at different times on (Friday) August 22--a 'biological entity' in the Lota Alto sector, among them a child who even made a drawing of it."
"This case coincides with others which were made known a few days ago, such as the one in Idahue, in which six ducks were found with puncture marks in their necks." (See the newspaper Cronica of Concepcion, Chile for September 4, 2003, "Dogs sucked dry from within in Lota." Muchas gracias a Scott Corrales y Gloria Coluchi para eso articulo de diario.)
PHANTOM PANTHER STALKS JOURNALIST IN ULSTER
"A further sighting of the infamous north coast wild cat has led to fears that there may be more than one exotic animal loose in north (County) Antrim" in Northern Ireland.
"This is the first time a photographer has been able to take a picture of the elusive beast, which has been stalking the Causeway Coast for more than three weeks."
"However, the animal, which has been described as a black panther, bears little resemblance to scores of other sightings of a light brown coloured North American puma (cougar or mountain lion in the USA--J.T.), which has been blamed for slaughtering two sheep in remote fields in the area."
"Ballymoney photographer Sammy McMullan managed to take the photograph after spotting the animal yesterday evening (Tuesday, August 26, 2003) on the Ballinlea Road between Moss-side and Ballycastle."
"Mr. McMullan was alerted to the latest wild cat sighting by Ballymoney-based reporter Lesley-Anne Henry, who saw the animal as she was driving home from work."
"Ms. Henry said there was absolutely no doubt in her mind that she had come face-to-face with the north coast wild cat."
"'Working for a newspaper, I have been reading and writing endlessly about that puma. Like any other reporter, I have been out looking for the animal, so you can imagine my surprise when it ran out in front of my car on my way home from work."
"'It ran across the road in front of my car. It was about two-and-a-half feet (0.8 meters) high and pure black in colour, with a big tail.'"
"'It was only two feet (0.6 meters) in front of me. It was sylph-like and moved like a domestic cat, but it was much larger and definitely not a dog.'"
"'It didn't look like how other people have described it, so maybe I've seen something different.'"
"'It didn't seem to see me so I got out of the car and followed it, but there were lots of bushes and I couldn't see it."
(Editor's Comment: Ms. Henry sounds like Northern Ireland's real-life version of Lois Lane.)
"'I phoned my photographer who was nearby, and we drove up and down the road looking for it for about 20 minutes. Then it ran back across the road the way it had come.'"
"'Sammy just managed to grab his camera and got a photo of its back legs as it disappeared into the bushes.'"
"'I was a bit scared but more than anything I was annoyed that I had missed the deadline for my own paper, the Ballymoney Times, that had just been printed.'"
"This latest sighting comes just days after a Ballymoney woman claims she opened her blinds to find the cat sleeping in her back garden."
"There have been more than 20 sightings of the beast along the Causeway Coast with descriptions varying from a small brown cat-type animal to a large black panther." (See the Belfast Telegraph for August 27, 2003, "New fears there may be a puma AND...a panther." Many thanks to UFO Roundup's phantom panther expert, Robert Fischer, for this newspaper article.)
CHUPACABRA KILLS 50 HENS NEAR RAUCO IN CHILE
"Without any apparent explanation, the owner of 50 hens was startled to find his animals dead inside and outside a henhouse in the Quete Quete sector of Curico, on the road to Rauco" in Chile.
"Scattered over a broad space, the hens were joined by a turkey and a rooster that shared a small coop that was also forced."
"The owner cannot explain how the creature--which was initially said to be the legendary Chupacabra--could have entered the pen and then the henhouse, leaving in its wake 50 hens in very poor conditions, some of them even torn to shreds, although without the characteristic (puncture) wound found on animals attacked by the 'Chupacabras'."
"The owner could not explain how the events occurred. Only when they arose in the morning did they realize that 50 hens were dead and that a scant few remained alive, without them or their watchdogs ever becoming aware of a disturbance."
"'I have no idea what happened here. When I woke up in the morning, I found them dead, nothing more. About 50 hens died; and there are roosters and turkeys. We found nothing. There were 60 hens here and about 10 are left. This is the first time it's happened. I heard nothing; the dogs didn't bark, and my wife didn't hear any noise. The hens were scattered all over, and I gathered them here...there were a few around here, and the turkey was over there,' said Sergio Gonzalez Nunez, owner of the slain birds." (See the Chilean newspaper La Prensa for August 30, 2003, "Chupacabra allegedly appears in Quete Quete." Muchas gracias a Scott Corrales y Liliana Nunez para eso articulo de diario.)
UFOs SEEN IN SUFFOLK, UK
"UFO investigators are targetting Suffolk in their quest to find alien life."
"The county has become the focus for alien hunters, in a case worthy of X-Files agents Mulder and Scully, after a strange sighting of an apparently alien craft in the skies over east Suffolk."
"Eagle-eyed residents living along the banks of the River Orwell may have witnessed a close encounter of the third kind if they had glanced up at the starry sky."
"A strange yellow D-shaped object was spotted overhead by a man in his garden at Freston," Suffolk, UK.
"He watched in wonder as the UFO changed shape before it altered course and flew off at around 11 p.m. on (Tuesday) August 5 (2003)."
"But instead of phoning home, like Steven Spielberg's E.T., the man called the operator, who put through his call to Contact, an organisation based in Oxfordshire that records and researches UFO sightings."
"Contact spokesman Michael Sopher said, 'It will be interesting to see if anyone else saw the same thing.'"
"'Any sightings over the Ipswich area are of great interest to us due to the events at Rendlesham. New evidence recently released by the government admits that this event was a proper UFO landing.'"
"Rendlesham is reknowned worldwide for the event in 1980 when American airmen claimed a UFO landed in the forest at their airbase."
"He added, 'In East Anglia, reported sightings differ from other areas. There are lots of reports of strange objects flying inland from the sea and then back again.'"
"'There was a wave of UFO sightings in Birmingham in June (2003). Many people reported seeing lights zigzagging in the clear sky near the airport.'"
"'At the same time, there was a geomagnetic storm which, we believe, causes people to be more spontaneous and tends to make people who see something more likely to report it.'" (See the Ipswich Evening Star for August 30, 2003, "UFO sighting excites alien hunters." Many thanks to Robert Fischer for this newspaper article.)
GREEN FIREBALL SIGHTED IN TROUT LAKE, WASH.
"At approximately 11 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2003, a very large fireball, green in color, came in from the west and looked as if it hit the ground or landed on the eastern slope of Mount Adams" near Trout Lake, Washington, located about 30 miles (48 kilometers) northeast of Portland, Oregon.
The event "was witnessed by 15 people present at a skywatch. Then we saw other sightings that did not match any known satellites" and these objects "exhibited strange behavior. One in particular had a brilliant red point of light on the front of the object. It did not strobe and was very high, most likely outside of Earth's atmosphere."
The previous day, Saturday, "August 30th, a large triangle was spotted. It seemed to make a few course corrections and angle changes as it flew over. One witness said it had form to it. Most could only see the three lights, one on each corner."
"We have some of these large triangles on film. When CSETI visited the ranch, we had over 30 people witness and film them, as well. I have seen them at treetop level. They have form; look metallic; yet are not totally physical. They flashed a bank of red lights at the tail as they flew over." (Many thanks to James C. Gilliland for these reports.)
CROP CIRCLES DISCOVERED NEAR HILLSBORO, OHIO
On Friday, August 29, 2003, paranormal investigator Kenny Young visited a newly-found large crop circle formation near Hillsboro, Ohio (population 6,368), a small city on Route 50 about 40 miles (64 kilometers) east- northeast of Cincinnati.
"The exact location I could not disclose out of respect for the continuing investigation and also out of respect for a neighboring resident and possible owner of the property, who has stated that she doesn't want 'a convention of UFO nutcases' destroying all her soybeans," Young reported.
He described the formation as "an oval-shaped flattened area accompanied by several projecting 'spikes' that arch around it."
The formation is less than 30 miles (48 kilometers) from Hillsboro and is in a field of soybeans with plants standing "between waist and shoulder height."
The site has also been visited by cerealogist Jeffrey Wilson and investigator Don Blessing of MUFON-Ohio. (Many thanks to Kenny Young for this report.)
BLACK HELICOPTER BUZZES WILTSHIRE SKYWATCHERS
"A couple have spoken of their terror as they were buzzed by a military helicopter as they held an evening countryside vigil for the planet Mars."
"Tom and Kerry Blower of Lockeridge," near East Kennett, Wiltshire, UK, "said they were terrified as they found themselves the target of close inspection by an Army helicopter."
"Ms. Blower, a researcher into the various phenomena in the Marlborough area, and her husband, Tom, a landscape gardener, held their planet vigil on Tuesday last week (August 26, 2003)."
"A military spokesman said, 'The Army can confirm there were a number of helicopters in the vicinity. If a pilot did fly too low, we are sorry, but it can be difficult to spot parked cars in the dark. If a formal complaint is made to the Ministry of Defence, it will be investigated fully.'"
On Thursday, September 4, 2003, Kerry Blower was interviewed by researcher Linda Moulton Howe. During the course of the interview, Ms. Blower reported, "More amazing information today, Linda. Someone saw my write-up in the paper and contacted me. I went to see them. The couple concerned live in Bottlesford," just south of East Field, near Woodborough Hill.
"'They are a couple in their mid-60s called Mr. and Mrs. Hyde. They were in their house on the 26th August (the same night as mine and Tom's incident--K.B.) when they heard a helicopter approaching. To their horror, it hovered just three feet from their chimney stack. Mr. Hyde ran outside to shout at them. The helicopter was black with guns on either side. It moved forwards and backwards in the same spot for a few minutes. It totally horrified Mrs. Hyde. The whole house shuddered, and Mrs. Hyde was too frightened to go outside. It was 6:30 in the evening, just a few hours before our incident."
Strangely enough, this was Kerry Blower's second encounter with a black helicopter. The first came in 1996 when she was investigating a crop circle formation shaped like a DNA spiral at East Kennett, Wilts. (See the Gazette and Herald of Devizes, Wilts. for September 4, 2003, "Mars seekers are buzzed." Many thanks to Robert Fischer and Linda Moulton Howe for this news story.)
THE DOVER MYSTERY
A second mysterious electrical blackout was reported in Dover, UK on Sunday, August 31, 2003, just 72 hours after the widespread outage that knocked out London's rail and subway service.
In his newsletter, Free Life Commentary, Sean Gabb reported, "Last Friday evening, the 29th August, my wife and I had Dr. Tame and Rebecca Baty over to dinner--as ever, a most enjoyable occasion. After they left, I turned on the wireless (radio in the USA--J.T.) for the news and heard of a security alert in Dover, which is about 7 miles (11 kilometers) down the coast from where we live. According to the report, the authorities had closed the port and both motorways into town. Traffic was being parked on the motorways outside the exclusion zone."
"Out to sea, all ferries had been stopped, and the passengers were reported to by happily making calls from their mobile telephones and consuming their cheap cigarettes and alcohol."
"The following morning (Saturday, August 30, 2003), I turned on the news again and heard that the alert was over and Dover was back to normal." Later that day, "Dr. Tame cycled over for coffee. Afterward, we went for a walk along the seafront. It was a clear day and we could see across the English Channel to the French hills behind Calais."
"Between the straits of Dover we could see dozens of ships all standing at anchor--passenger ferries, cargo ships and much smaller traffic. Whatever the media might choose to report, Dover was clearly not back to normal."
"The next afternoon (Sunday, August 31, 2003) Dr. Tame called and said he had stood on the seafront in front of his town, watching heavily armed military aeroplanes flying slowly towards Dover. Mrs. Gabb dissuaded me from getting into my car and driving off to Dover to see for myself what was happening."
"At about 9 p.m., there was a long power cut (blackout) between where she (Mrs. Gabb) was and Dover."
On Monday, September 1, 2003, "she called from the railway station to report black naval ships racing up and down the Channel--one of them with a helicopter pad. All day, I have heard (RAF) jets flying overhead."
However, no explanation for the heightened military activity in Dover has been forthcoming. (See Free Life Commentary No. 111 for September 1, 2003. Many thanks to Sonya Porter for forwarding this news story.)
From the UFO Files...
1980: JOHN LENNON'S MAGICKAL MYSTERY NUMBER
Is there such a thing as an unavoidable fate? Some numerologists think so. And if they wanted to bolster their argument, they could probably point to the strange case of musician/songwriter John Lennon, co-founder of the Beatles.
In his book The Shadow Over Santa Susana: Black Magic, Mind Control and The Manson Family Mythos, self- described "crackpot historian" Adam Gorightly lists numerological instances of the number 9 in John Lennon's life.
"Easily the most experimental piece on (the Beatles') White Album is John Lennon's mind-blowing cacophony, 'Revolution #9,' the apparent result of ingesting handfuls of LSD-25 tabs and spending long hours feeding them backward and forwards through reel to reel machines. 'Revolution #9' took on great significance to (Charles) Manson, who equated it with Revelation 9."
"Like Manson, the number 9 held great significance in John Lennon's life. In numerology, 9 is the final number, the last single digit and highest counting number before starting over again: the beginning and the end. It was perhaps for these reasons that Lennon felt himself tuned into number 9, understanding the importance it played in his life."
"Lennon's numerological odyssey began with his birth on October 9, 1940" in Liverpool. Curiously, "his son Sean was also born on October 9."
"As a Liverpudlian lad, Lennon grew up in England at 9 Newcastle Road."
Their manager "Brian Epstein discovered the Beatles on November 9, 1961."
"The Beatles played their first gig at the Cavern Club" in 1961. Nine years later--in 1970--they officially split up. The group rocketed to superstardom after appearing on the Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964."
"Several of Lennon's tunes featured the number 9 theme, such as 'Revolution #9' on the White Album and 'Number 9 Dream' from Walls and Bridges."
"John (Lennon) married Yoko (Ono) in 1969. (He met her on November 9, 1966--A.G.) They moved from England to New York City in 1971, and lived there for nine years, until Lennon was shot to death outside the entrance of The Dakota (a famous Nineteenth Century apartment building in New York City--J.T.) on December 8, 1980. After receiving the fatal gunshots, Lennon was transported to Roosevelt Hospital on Ninth Street, and was officially pronounced dead at 11:07 p.m. (1 plus 1 plus 7 equals 9--A.G.)." In Liverpool, UK, "John's birthplace, it was already December 9."
"The Dakota Building is located on West 72nd Street (7 plus 2 equals 9--A.G.). The Lennon's apartment number at The Dakota was 72 (7 plus 2 equals 9) Above Lennon's bed at The Dakota hung the number 9."
Gorightly also found a weird twist in the notorious 1969 Manson family murders. He writes, "On August 8, 1969, Disneyland opened the doors to a new attraction, The Haunted Mansion. Later that night, macabre history was made again on 10050 Cielo Drive" in Los Angeles "when (film actress) Sharon Tate and her house guests were murdered."
"The next evening, on August 9 (1969), the Mansonoids paid a visit to Leno LaBianca's house, which (previously) had been owned by Walt Disney."
Other weird and/or apocalyptic things that happened on the ninth day of the month include the following:
"On August 9, 1945, the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki" in Japan,"effectively drawing World War II to an Apocalyptic end."
(Editor's Note: Ground Zero for the B-29 Bock's Car's deadly payload was Nagasaki's Roman Catholic cathedral, which marked the spot where St. Francis Xavier erected the first Christian cross in Japan back in 1549.)
On February 9, 1914, the Illuminatus Detlef Schmude founded a priory of the Order of the New Templars at Hollenberg (German for Hell Mountain--J.T.), near Kornelmunster in Germany.
On November 9, 1875, Adam Alfred Rudolf Glauer (who later changed his name to Baron Rudolf von Sebottendorff-- J.T.), the founder of the Thule Gesellschaft, a forerunner of the Nazi Party, was born at Hoyerswerda, Saxony, northeast of Dresden in Germany.
On February 9, 1900, the steamer S.S. Ems left Napoli (Naples) for New York City, carrying Glauer/Sebottendorff on the first of his occult odysseys.
On November 9, 1918, a lot of things happened.
(A) Kaiser Wilhelm II signed his abdication document, putting an end to the Second German Reich, and fled to the Netherlands.
(B) Glauer, now Baron von Sebottendorff, called a meeting of the Thule group at the Hotel Vierjahreszeiten in Munich, in which everyone pledged to make the Twentieth Century "the New Age."
(C) At a military hospital in Pasewalk, Germany, a convalescing soldier named Adolf Hitler lost his eyesight for the second time and began hearing weird voices telling him he had been chosen to "save the Fatherland."
(Editor's Comment: Gee, the same thing happened in France in 1423 to a shepherd girl from Domremy named Jehanne.)
On November 9, 1923, Hitler led a Nazi march from a beer garden to the Feldherrnhalle in the center of Munich. German police broke up the demonstration with rifle fire, and sixteen NSDAP members were killed.
On December 9, 1937, the SS-Ahnenerbe, the "occult bureau" of Hitler's Third Reich, declared Hans Hoerbiger's "cosmic ice theory" to be the basis of "the new physics."
On November 9, 1938, the Kristallnacht (German for Night of Broken Glass --J.T.), a nationwide pogrom against the Jews, engulfed Germany. This event was the beginning of the Holocaust. The number of Jews killed in the rioting was 91.
On November 9, 1989, the Berlin Wall was toppled, an event that marked the end of the Cold War. (See Paranoia for Fall 2003, "'We all live in a yellow submarine' The Manson Family and the Beatles," pages 38 to 45. Also the books The Masters Revealed by K.
