MOTHERSHIP UFO HOVERS OVER CARACAS, VENEZUELA
On Saturday, July 22, 2000, at 6:28 p.m., a giant luminous UFO was seen by many witnesses over the suburbs of Caracas, the capital of Venezuela.
According to eyewitness Martha Rosenthal, "an object of considerable size, nearly transparent (given the amount of light it transmitted--M.R.) has been filmed since 6:28 p.m. It appears silvery in color with a white upper dome and a fin on the lower hull shaped like an inverted cone (like the tongue of a shoe--M.R.)."
"A compass reading" placed the UFO "at between 300 and 305 degrees," northwest of downtown Caracas, "located to the left of the Universidad Simon Bolivar (university) and the barrio Fuerte Tiuna, using the clouds as a screen," she added, the UFO's "luminosity is hard to observe without using dark glasses. It is hovering with an almost imperceptible balancing motion, but one could say it is completely motionless." (Muchas gracias a Martha Rosenthal y Scott Corrales, autor de los libros Chupacabras and Other Mysteries y Forbidden Mexico para eso informe.)
UFO SQUADRON SEEN OVER SAO PAULO, BRAZIL
On Friday, June 23, 2000, at 8:30 p.m., Joaquin Pires "was at his apartment window in Sao Paulo, looking outdoors in no special direction. The night was unusually warm because we are in the winter time here. He saw what at first looked like a plane but on a different route (flight path--J.T.) that he was used to observing."
When the object came closer, he noticed that it was not just one object but a formation. Moreover, one of the objects was flying at an extremely low level, a little separated from the others. They all had an orange glow-- a kind of 'fixed' light, polarized quite different from torch (illuminated) balloons and planes' sign (navigation) lights."
"The (UFO) cluster was moving silently from south to north at an estimated altitude of 3,000 meters (3,300 feet)."
"Joaquin is wondering if anybody else" in the Sao Paulo area "saw this sighting." (Muito obrigado a Sergio Graciotti, correspondencao do UFO Roundup em Brasil por eso caso.)
RESIDENT VIDEOTAPES A UFO IN NORTHWICH, CHESHIRE, UK
On Sunday, July 9, 2000, at about 2 p.m., a man in Northwich, Cheshire "saw the strange object in the sky.. and asked his wife to bring his video camera out so he could try and film the phenomenon. He was able to capture what experts at the British UFO Studies Centre (BUFOSC) say is 'the best-ever UFO film.'"
"Russ Callaghan of UFO Magazine saw the footage on July 16" at BUFOSC's 20th Anniversary dinner "and said it's 'the best footage I've ever seen.'"
"The witness also recorded traffic on his (radio) frequency scanner which clearly indicates the presence of civilian passenger aircraft in the immediate vicinity at the time." The tape also reportedly reveals air traffic controllers of the UK's Civil Aviation Authority diverting the passenger aircraft away from the airspace over Northwich.
"Eric Morris, BUFOSC director, and Tim Matthews, well-known author and researcher of mysteries both ancient and modern, have both been amazed by the quality of the images."
Three days later, on Wednesday, July 12, 2000, a resident of the large city of Stoke-on-Trent, southeast of Northwich, told BUFOSC that he had "seen a UFO 'being chased by three aircraft and a large (Boeing Vertol CH-47D) Chinook helicopter. (Many thanks to Cliff Capers for forwarding the BUFOSC news release.)
MORE UFOs SIGHTED OVER WISCONSIN
On Monday, July 10, 2000, at 7 p.m., two men "were having a break outside the factory where we work" in Tomah, Wisconsin (population 7,570) when "we both saw a cigar-shaped object to the north and (another) one to the south. They were silver in color, and this was at 7 p.m. (Still daylight. Sunset in Wisconsin that day was around 9 p.m.--J.T.) Both were traveling slowly--too slow to be a plane. They were too low to be a commercial jet. After about a minute and a half of watching, they speeded up to a terrific speed and disappeared. We are sure this object wasn't any type of man-made aircraft. It was a real strange event we witnessed."
Tomah is on Wisconsin Highway 16 about 170 miles (272 kilometers) northwest of Milwaukee.
On Sunday, June 25, 2000, two girls were driving on Highway 41 in Little Chute, Wis., a suburb of Appleton, when they saw something strange in the sky.
"My sister and I saw this unusual fireball in the sky," one of the witnesses reported, "We were driving to the mall and, when going on to Highway 41, I noticed something oval in the sky. It looked like a fireball in the sky. But, as we both looked at it closer, we could see an oval shape on the top of it and sometimes we could seen an oval shape on the bottom of it, also. There was a black dot in front of the fireball. It was below the clouds, traveling up towards the right, as we were going south on Highway 41 I'm not sure what it was, and it would make my sister feel better if she could find out what it was." (Many thanks to Peter Davenport of the National UFO Reporting Center for these reports.)
UNUSUAL UFO SEEN BY A SECURITY GUARD IN OHIO
On Saturday, July 8, 2000, at 5:32 a.m., security guard Claude Foreman was on duty "at his place of employment near Third Street, close to Route 521, in Ironton, Ohio (population 12,750) when he "caught a glimpse of something in the corner of my eye."
Watching it approach from the clear western sky, Foreman initially thought it to be a large bird, perhaps a vulture. He then "walked into the field to get a better look at it.."
"The UFO, seen clearly in the daylight skies, was reportedly shaped like the sole of a shoe. The object appeared to be colored like rusted old iron (that is, dark red--J.T.) and looked like a shoebox of old rusted metal or iron that was rounded at both ends."
"The rust-colored object made absolutely no noise as it continued overhead at an estimated altitude of 10,000 to 15,000 feet (3,00 to 4,500 meters), going perfectly straight. From his perspective, the security guard said the object was much longer than a routine (conventional) aircraft seen at the same estimated height. The guard, however, thought the object was traveling much slower than conventional air traffic."
"It was low enough that I should have heard some noise," Foreman told UFO researcher Kenneth Young.
Foreman said the UFO also had "a yellowish-orange non-blinking light around the exterior of it, like a circle with neon lighting all around it. There were also two additional lights in the back of the object.."
"I've always been skeptical of UFOs," Foreman added, ""This is the first time I've ever seen anything like this."
Ironton is on the north bank of the Ohio River about 12 miles (19 kilometers) northwest of Huntington, West Virginia. (Many thanks to Kenneth Young of Cincinnati UFO Research for this report.)
(Editor's Note: Huntington, W.V. is a notorious hotspot for UFOs and played a key role in the "Mothman" incident of 1967.)
CYLINDRICAL WHITE UFO SEEN IN MAKILTEO, WASHINGTON
On Sunday, July 16, 2000, at 11:50 p.m., David E. and his friend Heather were driving on Highway 526 in Makilteo, Washington state "when I noticed a long white line in the sky. I first thought it was an airplane since we were near the (Boeing plant's) airport It just hovered in one position 30 degrees above the horizon."
The UFO "moved a little and just hovered there, motionless. We both watched it and also noticed that it had no shadowing like a normal airplane...that it had no shape to it. It was just a white line, but it still had a definite presence to it."
"The object, as we continued to drive ahead, seemed to be very far off and nowhere near the Boeing airport at all. But after I stated jokingly to Heather, 'If this is the big day of contact or alien invasion, bring it on, baby!' and it suddenly vanished. Nothing left of it. We just looked at each other and speculated about what we had just witnessed." (Many thanks to Rev. Billy Dee of UFO Sky Searchers International for this report.)
THREE CROP CIRCLES APPEAR IN BAINBRIDGE, OHIO
"Lovers of mysteries and UFO enthusiasts: take heed. Paranormal activity is alive and well just east of Bainbridge (Ohio) on Route 50."
"At the farm of Roscoe and Elizabeth Swartz, three genuine crop circles have appeared. They were discovered in a wheat field Thursday *June 29, 2000) by farmer Dale mark who was baling hay at the time."
"Some possible, albeit not plausible, reasons for the appearance include but are not limited to: aliens, Druids, Native American mysticism, the recent summer solstice and maybe they are mainly the work of a resourceful and clever prankster."
(Editor's Comment: Uh-huh. Right. And he drove all the way to Bainbridge from Ashern, Manitoba, Canada, the site of last week's crop circle, just to play a prank on Roscoe and Elizabeth Swartz.)
"'There's no sign of machinery, but they're so geometrically perfect,' said Roscoe, an oral surgeon "Maybe it has something to do with the summer solstice." Evidence to the contrary is scarce. "I don't know how anyone could have gotten in or out... nothing's knocked down and there are no tracks. It's a phenomenon we just can't explain,' he added."
:One of the circles is nearly 40 feet (13 meters) in diameter, but it is the other two that appear the most interesting. They contain an inner circle of about 30 feet 99 meters) in diameter and an outer 'ring' of about three feet (0.9 meters) in width that encompasses the entire circle. Two 'concentric circles' if you will."
"The trio of circles are just a few feet apart and are in an area not far from the Seip Mound (a temple mound of the indigenous Hopewell culture, circa 800 A.D.--J.T.) where ancient earthworks once stood before losing the battle with the plow."
"'There's a lot of Indian lore about the area,' continued Roscoe."
"The Swartz family has lived on the farm for 31 years and has never seen anything like it. 'I think maybe we were invaded by the Druids,' Roscoe further hypothesized."
"According to Elizabeth and Roscoe, the circles were a welcome break. 'Usually the biggest thing they find around here are marijuana plants--and no one knows where they come from, either.'"
"Dale Mark is there continuing work on the hay baling process. 'My wife said I've been having dreams about UFOs,' he said, before deciding it might be better not to go on."
"Elizabeth, who is an artist, was more careful in her words. Unlike her husband, she seemed dubious to commit herself to the question of their origin. 'Whether it's a hoax or not, it's still well done,' she said, commenting somewhat reluctantly. 'I'd better not mention UFOs.'" (See the Chillicothe, Ohio Gazette for July 2, 2000, "Crop circles appear close to home," page 1. Many thanks to George Clappison for forwarding the newspaper article.)
CHEMTRAILS APPEAR ON THE QUEENSLAND COAST
Chemtrails have been spotted on the "Gold Coast," south of Brisbane in Queensland state, Australia.
This was the first reported sighting of chemtrails in Australia received by UFO Roundup.
On Thursday, July 6, 2000, during a local festival, low-flying airplanes sprayed chemtrails on the beaches at Brunswick Heads, near Byron Bay, Qlnd., a port city about 200 kilometers (120 miles) south of Brisbane.
Nearly two weeks later, on Wednesday, July 19, 200, "starting at 7 a.m., a few large airplanes flying at low altitude crisscrossed the sky in all directions, spraying Chemtrails. Within a few minutes, the famous clear blue Australian sky turned cloudy and hazy. For the first time in history here, it was almost impossible to see the beautiful (Great Dividing Range--J.T.) mountains to the west."
Byron Bay itself was the target of the spraying on July 19, 2000. "To our astonishment, the clouds did not disperse, nd they were very long, all the way down Australia's Gold Coast. People stopped on the side of the road and got out of their cars to watch the incredible spectacle. I know of a few people who took photographs. The event resembled a war, as airplanes 'attacked' Byron Bay from all directions. The 'contrails' were 'turned' on just before Byron Bay and 'turned off' after the planes passed over us."
The sky "resembled a load of match sticks that was dumped on the floor...These 'contrails' did not behave as ordinary contrails. While one side of these 'contrails' remained straight, the other side dispersed, resembling a comb or a feather." (Many thanks to Diane Harrison of the Australian UFO Research Network for this report.)
CHEMTRAILS, WEIRD WEATHER REPORTED IN SWEDEN
Chemtrails have been seen frequently on Orust Island, an island off the west coast of Sweden, located about 320 kilometers (200 miles) east-southeast of Stockholm, the national capital.
Ulla-Britt M., a resident of Hensa, a town on Orust, reported, "In November 1998, I was standing on the balcony, third floor of the local government building where I work. I was having a cig (cigarette) with my coffee. Suddenly I heard a whining noise from above, and when I looked up, there were two airplanes racing at high speed, leaving a contrail behind. Suddenly the last (second) one came close to the first, and my heart nearly stopped. I was thinking a catastrophe would happen. Nothing happened, and I was surprised to see them linked, as if the two had become one."
In recent weeks, Ulla-Britt added, she has seen them again "and they have a strange sound like whining, and this is how I know they are there even if I cannot see them. I am not afraid of them any more but I am really worried about what they are spraying the sky with."
"Often, specifically now in the summer time, I have problems with running eyes and nose, some coughing and a sound in my ears like crickets (tintinnitis--J.T.) and a sick feeling from the stomach (gastritis--J.T.) There is no clear sky any more. The chemtrails stay in the sky, and they move like a coverlet across the sky." (Email Interview)
On Thursday, June 20, 2000, unusually heavy rains blanketed south-central Sweden. Heavy rains flooded the Ljungan River near Aage, which overflowed its banks and swept away several houses.
"Heavy rains have flooded roads and railways, isolating communities and shutting down all northbound train traffic from Stockholm." (See USA Today for July 20, 2000, "Rains engulf central Sweden," page 5A)
(Editor's Comment: Anti-UFO minefields? Defense against depletion of the ozone layer? Global weather modification? A spinoff of Project MK Ultra? Just what are these chemtrails all about?)
HANDWRITING ANALYSTS DISPUTE FATIMA LETTER
A group of handwriting analysts questions the authenticity of the Fatima letter released by the Vatican last month.
Specklin Forensic Laboratories, a group which analyzed the ransom note in the JonBenet Simpson murder case in 1997, announced on their website that they "have examined the reputed Third Secret text and compared it with past writings of Sister Lucy."
On January 9, 1944, the surviving Fatima seer, Sister Lucia Abobora de Jesus dos Santos, in response to a request from Archbishop da Silva of Leiria, Portugal, wrote down the "Third Secret" she had been given by the Virgin Mary in 1917.
The letter was turned over to Pope Piux Xii (birth name Eugenio Pacelli--J.T.) who promised to release it to the public in 1960. But he died of a heart attack in 1958, and his successor, Pope John XXIII (birth name Angelo Roncalli--J.T.) locked the envelope away in a wall safe in the Vatican.
A month after beatification ceremonies for Fatima seers Francisco and Jacinta Marto in May 2000, Pope John Paul II (birth name Karol Wojytla--J.T.) decided to make the Third Secret public.
Lucia Abobora de Jesus dos Santos, 93, is a Carmelite nun living at a convent in Coimbra, Portugal.
According to page 2 of the Specklin Labs' report, the handwriting of the Third Secret "cannot be identified with the known handwriting of Sister Lucy."
The full text of the report can be found at this URL-- http://www.tidm.org/news/spcklin-p1.htm and http://www.tidm.org/news/specklin-p2.htm
According to the documents presented by Fatima archivist Father Joaquim Alonso on October 13, 1967, the fiftieth anniversary of the last Marian apparition, Lucia informed Bishop da Silva that the text "is sealed in an envelope and it is on a piece of notepaper."
In Father Alonso's book, The Secret of Fatima: Fact and Legend, page 65, Cardinal Ottaviani was quoted as saying, "She (Lucia) has written on one sheet of paper what Our Lady told her to tell the Holy Father (the Pope--J.T.)."
However, the text released last month totalled four pages. (Muito obrigado ao TIDM por eso caso.)
(Editor's Comment: Speaking of Fatima, you'll never guess who dropped in for a visit. Check out this week's feature story.)
WYOMING TOWNS INVADED BY A HORDE OF SKUNKS
Hundreds of skunks have invaded the town of Medicine Bow, Wyoming (population 400), spraying homes and yards as they move around at night.
The skunks were "driven to town in search of food and water" and have "become such a problem that the city has called in a state trapper to get rid of" the animals.
"In nearby Hanna (population 1,100), about 20 miles (32 kilometers) down the road (Highways 30 and 287--J.T.), the town has also called in a state trapper to catch the badgers."
""Medicine Bow town clerk Carol Cook blamed this summer's dry conditions for drawing the animals to town."
Medicine Bow is on Highway 30 and 287 about 55 miles (88 kilometers) north of Laramie. Hanna is on Highway 72 about 80 miles (128 kilometers) northwest of Laramie. (See USA Today for July 25, 2000, "Wyoming," page 7A.)
(Editor's Note: Hanna, Wyo. was the site of a reported UFO crash in 1998.)
(Editor's Comment: This is the second swarm of fur-bearing animals on the prairie this year. In April, hundreds of jackrabbits invaded the city of Fargo, North Dakota. See UFO Roundup, volume 5, number 17 for April 27, 2000, "Jackrabbit horde runs wild in Fargo, North Dakota," page 5. What is going on out there on the prairie?)

2000: ANOTHER OCTOBER SURPRISE?
On Thursday, July 20, 2000, shortly after 3 a.m., your UFO Roundup editor had a really disturbing dream.
I dreamed I was riding a bus which was traveling on a country road. There were maybe half a dozen people aboard. After turning onto a two-lane dirt road, the bus headed uphill into what looked like a national forest, mostly deciduous trees and a few solitary pines.
The bus stopped at a T-intersection. An even smaller dirt road led up a wooded mountainside. We all got out to stretch our legs. I felt a hand tap my shoulder, turned and saw that it was Tackanash.
Tackanash is an elderly man of the Anishinabe, an indigenous people here in the USA (also known as Ojibwe or Chippewa--J.T.) I've dreamed of him at different times of my life. Sometimes he appears in traditional Anishinabe dress, sometimes in modern garb. This time he was wearing blue jeans and a denim jacket with beadwork on the collarbone and at the cuffs.
"Let's take a walk," he said.
So we went up the steep narrow road. I kept a wary eye on the creek to the left of the road. It was swollen and running fast and eating away at the road's shoulder.
"You're looking pretty grim," I remarked.
"Operation Abacus isn't dead, Joe."
"I didn't think it was," I replied. "I just figured it went back on the shelf with the rest of the contingency plans."
Holding my shoulders, he gave me a solemn look. "Clinton isn't stepping down."
"What!?" I cried, taking a step back. "I've heard that rumor, Nimishoo (Anishinabe for grandfather--J.T.) And I don't buy it. He doesn't have a choice. It's all over on January 20." His statement really had me flustered. "You want to know how it's going to go? Here it is. 12 noon--the new president, whoever he is, takes the oath. 12:02--Hillary says, 'I'm outta here!' and walks off the reviewing stand. 12:03...or 9:03 a.m. Pacific time...Pamela Anderson Lee's cell phone rings in Hollywood. A familiar voice says, 'Hi, Pam! Busy this weekend?'"
Tackanash smiled but only a fraction. His face was still pretty grim. "There's a lot going on that you don't know about. There's going to be a big war in the Middle East. They're going to cancel the election."
"They can't do that!" I snapped. "There's no emergency big enough to justify that. Lincoln didn't do it. FDR didn't do it--"
"No, but he was going to," Tackanash interrupted. "But he knew the Republicans would raise hell so he didn't."
"And the Republicans are just going to sit there and take it!?"
"They have no choice. We're talking about a real national emergency here. Everything in Michimackinakong (Anishinabe name for the USA) is going to change," he said, as we walked along. "Besides, they don't like Dubbya (Gov. George W. Bush, the GOP candidate--J.T.) They're not sure Al Gore can beat him."
"As if it matters," I replied, "Haven't you heard, Nimishoo? Dubbya's a 'new kind of Republican.' One who sounds more like Adam Weishaupt than Ronald Reagan. He's a team player, just like his dad. He won't do anything to upset the one-world applecart."
Tackanash gave me a knowing look. "Ah, but Dubbya is closer to his mother than his father. That's the problem."
"Barbara Bush!?" I shot him a disbelieving glance. "You've got to be kidding."
"I wish I was, youngster," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. "She can be vindictive. She's bitter about the way the family was booted out of the White House eight years ago. They're afraid Dubbya might listen to her advice and retaliate against them."
"Who are they, Nimishoo?"
"Your pals in Jerusalem--the Sages."
"What are they worried about? Dubbya's as much of an Israel-booster as Al Gore. If the Promised land gets into a bind, Dubbya will come riding to the rescue."
He shrugged. "They already have their Roosevelt. Why take the risk?"
Fuming, I said, "I assume there's a compelling reason for the Assahollahs interfering in our election."
"There's too many born-again Christians running around on Michimackinakong. Too many talk shows. Too vocal. Too outspoken. They want to do something about it." His tone gave me the shivers. "The war gives them an excuse. Those Jesus- shouters are going to fall under the tomahawk."
While I was still digesting all this, Tackanash tilted his head. "Go on up the trail. Your little friends want to say hello."
So I kept on walking up the trail, mindful of the overflowing creek. At first I thought about what Tackanash had said. No election! Kind of a raw deal for Bush. To say nothing of Al Gore. And then I realized I had no idea where I was.
I looked around. The forest was definitely in the eastern USA. New Hampshire? No, the roadside rocks were all wrong. Then I saw the bright red berries of a mountain ash up ahead. Okay. West Virginia, perhaps. Or eastern Kentucky or Tennessee.
(Editor's Note: I've been to Kentucky but never to West Virginia or Tennessee.)
At the bend, I noticed that the creek was actually flowing across the road, just starting to scour out ruts. I picked my steps carefully, hopping from flat stone to flat stone. Nevertheless, I ended up with wet sneakers.
Then I rounded the bend and saw two of the Fatima seers, Francisco and Jacinta Marto. We greeted each other like long-lost relatives, shared a group hug and some banter and small-talk. I said, "I hear Wojytla gave you two a promotion." Inane jokes like that. And then the conversation got serious.
"Tackanash gave me some pretty disturbing news," I remarked.
"The Middle East will soon be at war. Thousands will be killed," Jacinta said, touching my sleeve. "It will go very hard for the Christians in your country, Joseph. The Shas Party is determined to root them out."
"Many, many Christians will be persecuted, and more than a few will die," Francisco said.
"Not in the USA." I shook my head. "Not in the land of Thomas Jefferson."
"Jefferson is nothing to the Shas Party. They're going to send their cat's paws, the Democrats, after those who serve Jesus. They will use the war- emergency to destroy those who follow Christ."
"Francisco, I have to know," I said in a murmur. "Are we up against it? Are these the Last Days?"
Francisco shrugged. "Only God knows for certain."
And I woke up. Trembling, I rolled over and glanced at the digital clock. 3:10 a.m. I groped for my notebook and jotted down some notes.
Aside from the general content, there were a few things about this dream that bothered me.
(1) Tackanash, a Native American, seemed more upset about the cancelled election. He seemed to take the mass persecution of Christians in stride. Sort of a "Well, that's the way it goes" attitude.
(2) The persecution was the main topic with Francisco and Jacinta, that and the toll of war dead in the Middle East. They didn't seem that concerned about the political situation in the USA.
(3) Hillary Rodham Clinton's race for the USA Senate is a big news story here. Yet neither Tackanash nor the Marto children made any mention of Hillary. Why not?
(4) Why were we having this roadside meeting in the Appalachian Mountains?
(5) How come these goofy dreams always take place on a Thursday?
You know, sometimes there are dreams which you don't want to come true. This is one of them!
