Pyramids in Bosnia

The discovery of incredible megalithic hills in the former Yugoslavia, perhaps artificially modeled, brings the question of Europe's first inhabitants back to the forefront. Who built Visocica Hill fifteen thousand years ago?

The profile of Visocica Hill, in Visoko, Bosnia. The unnatural shape and the discovery of a stone-covering, combined with the presence of internal tunnels and similar structures in the surrounding area, have led numerous scientists to affirm that it is a mountain artificially modified to take on the shape of a pyramid.

When we think of pyramids, the colossal Egyptian structures immediately come to mind; thoughts also go to the Toltec and Maya pyramids of Mexico, as well as similar structures like the ziggurats of Mesopotamia.

A closer examination reminds us that pyramids also exist in Nubia; experts then discuss the pyramids in the Canary Islands, those scattered in the islands of Polynesia in the Pacific Ocean, and the more informed even know about pyramids in China and Tibet, not to mention the remains of those in Peru (and those on Mars).

But in Europe, until now, no pyramids had ever been found… Or is that really the case? Many Sardinians consider the temple of Monte d'Accoddi to be a pyramid modeled after those of the Middle East, while strange structures, although smaller than the typical idea of a pyramid, are present in Sicily, Calabria, and even Greece. Not to mention the Pyramid of Cestius in Rome, built in recent times but the last survivor of a multitude of tombs in the Egyptian style with this shape that adorned the Eternal City.

In this context, the discovery made by chance in 2005 of the Bosnian pyramids seems almost predictable, as, according to the so-called "experts," the pyramid shape is the most suitable for the construction of a temple because it is solid and robust as well as easy to build.

The Visocica Hill, renamed "Sunca Pyramid", Pyramid of the Sun, dominates the town of Visoko and it is not difficult to think how the structure could have had a cult function for the ancient inhabitants of the region. Visoko is located in a region of Bosnia that has always been strategic, a crossroads of commercial traffic since ancient times.

According to these pundits, all the peoples of the Earth knew pyramid architecture because it naturally exists in the human mind... But when you realize the colossal dimensions of the largest pyramid on the planet, the Sunca Pyramid in Visoko, you understand that whoever built it was thinking in a non-human way, at least not within the norms we are accustomed to today.

The Bosnian Pyramids represent one of those epochal revolutions capable of demolishing outdated and foolish theories that characterize modern archaeology. Yes, because the idea that primitive men could have built such works is unthinkable for the Man of Science, who is too focused on not discrediting his name with dangerous theses that disturb the established order, or even just the religious idea of humanity's past. And yet, the Bosnian pyramids, located in the area of Visoko, a city of 46,000 inhabitants 30 km south of Sarajevo, are real and, according to Carbon 14 studies, date back to the most remote prehistory: 35,000 years ago!

According to Samir Osmanagic, the Bosnian archaeologist transplanted to the USA who made the discovery, the constructions are probably more recent, around 14,000 BCE. But the issue of constructing such pyramids takes on significant importance when you observe how they are made.

First of all, we are talking about the first pyramid, called Sunca, or the Sun Pyramid, also known as Visocica Hill: a real mountain 220 meters high with its four sides measuring 365 meters, inclined at 45° angles. Osmanagic, a former dissident of Tito's regime who emigrated to Houston, USA, but is native to the area, officially discovered it, as mentioned, in August 2005, although he had been developing this theory with his father for years. This theory officially originated in 1982 when a Yugoslav historian, Professor Senad Hodovich, first theorized that the peculiar hill overlooking Visoko could be a pyramid, given its peculiar non-natural shape: 45° angles are present only in human artifacts or volcanoes, and Visocica Hill is certainly not a volcano! The Yugoslav regime in power at that time denied the dissemination of the theory, and it took almost a quarter of a century for this possibility to be confirmed.

The Sunca Pyramid shows sides and right angles that are unthinkable in nature, especially in a highly temperate area subject to rain and snow and therefore strong erosion.

The peculiarity of the Sunca Pyramid is its shape: it is a structure built atop an underlying hill and is comparable in scale to the analogous Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan, Mexico. Additionally, it has a flat summit, almost like a sanctuary, and a series of internal galleries.

The other two pyramids, those of the Moon and the Dragon, are slightly smaller, but still more imposing than the Egyptian ones (the Pyramid of Cheops reaches 149 meters, slightly surpassed by that of Chefren, which, however, is structurally smaller and positioned on a rise that places it higher).

The three pyramids have sides with angles of 60°, indicating that they form the vertices of an equilateral triangle. Apparently, satellite surveys suggest there are two other structures within this triangle, creating a sacred complex with magical-religious functions. In theory, Visocica Hill has a total height of 650 meters, comparable to the Martian pyramids! But the peculiarity of Visoko is that its pyramids are only partially mountains; they are extensions of the mountains, forming a modeled landscape.

Essentially, the builders might have shaped the hills around Visoko to give them a pyramidal appearance at their summits. Therefore, the Bosnian pyramids are natural hills likely excavated on their four sides, perfectly aligned along a north-south and east-west axis. The people who designed them excavated the excess parts of the mountains, covering the concave parts with sandstone blocks and veneering the last 200 meters towards the summit with limestone blocks about 2.5 meters by 2 meters in size.

The blocks are joined together by a peculiar cement of sand and clay, found in other locations and seemingly similar, according to Egyptian experts sent to the site, to the extremely fine cement found between the limestone blocks of the Cheops Pyramid and other contemporary structures.

In addition to the slabs on the Sunca Pyramid, other structures were found, such as niches and steps which suggest a possible similarity with the pre-Columbian pyramids.

Thus, this is a natural complex modified by humans, following a pattern seen in other pseudo-artificial pyramids in Italy, such as those in Montevecchia, in the province of Lecco, and in Pontassieve, near Florence. In these locations, one can admire structures arranged similarly to the Giza monuments, positioned according to the alignment with the stars of Orion's Belt (or the Cygnus Constellation).

The human hand is evident in the shaping of the sides, modeled similarly to Visoko to reproduce a pyramidal shape, but seemingly without concrete traces of cladding, except for some monolithic stones present on one of Montevecchia's three hills. However, without archaeological excavations and official studies, the similarity cannot be confirmed; it is quite probable that the hills are natural.

In Bosnia, however, the artificial trace is clearly perceived, as hundreds and hundreds of megalithic blocks, each weighing over 30 tons, have been orderly arranged along the mountain slopes to protect the site. In addition to the archaeological findings, NASA's Aster satellite conducted an infrared scan of the area, revealing that the ground is not compact but has numerous tunnels and rocks of certainly artificial origin.

Some slabs are made of a particular ochre-coloured slate. It should be underlined that slate has a considerable weight, greater than limestone, which makes these boulders even more difficult to lift than their Egyptian counterparts.

Today, the pyramids of Visoko appear as hills, covered with trees and vegetation. However, the layer of soil covering them is only 15 to 50 cm deep, and the flora present has shallow roots, with no deep root systems, because the underlying soil is "blocked" by the presence of the stone cladding. Semir Osmanagic is certain of his theory: the alignment with the cardinal points and the specific alignment with certain stars and constellations (Sirius, Cygnus, Cassiopeia, Ursa Major, to name a few) suggest that Visoko was a sacred place, a site of worship for that Ancient Religion that we now find almost everywhere. Analyses conducted with sensors sensitive to magnetic variations have revealed intense activity, typical of many sacred places that seem to catalyze the Earth's subterranean energy. At Visoko, these energies are extremely strong, capable of causing headaches and fainting in researchers. Similar sensations are often experienced at the Portae Coeli found in some Templar-origin churches.

These considerations have been costly for the Bosnian archaeologist, as the scientific community, extremely hostile to any discovery that deviates from its orthodox security, has labeled Osmanagic more of a New Age follower than a researcher. For our part, we can confirm that a large number of megalithic sites exhibit strange magnetic phenomena and that all Marian apparitions, UFO sightings, and visions of supernatural entities can be attributed to Earth Lights, the spheres of light emitted by the Earth's crust at specific points in the Earth's magnetic field. Essentially, the place where these energies manifest is truly sacred because such energies have beneficial and healing effects on humans (for example, on fertility).

Semir does not seem to care about the harsh and gratuitous criticisms from the academic community and, in 2006, he also discovered the internal tunnels beneath the Sunca Pyramid, which definitively confirm the human hand in the creation of this complex. The exploration of these artificial tunnels carved into the mountain is still ongoing; however, what can be said with certainty is that it is a form of excavation very similar to that noticed in the archaeological excavation area of Cuma, in the famous Sibyl's Cave. The sandstone walls seem to have been scraped by a strange apparatus, indicating that the builders did not use picks and chisels to pierce the mountain but employed some other as-yet-unidentified device. The tunnel layout is still provisional, but it undoubtedly extends for hundreds of meters underground. The tunnels are perfectly ventilated, as fresh air can still be found even at the bottom of the shafts. Evidently, there must be an air exchange system based on ventilation shafts like those in the Pyramid of Cheops, which is even more astonishing.

But what surprises even more, used as we are to seeing traces of trapezoidal doors almost everywhere in the world, is discovering that the section of the tunnel is not circular but has this peculiar trapezoidal shape that was so important in Antiquity. The height of about three meters is also an indication of a certain ease of construction, as a primitive people, dealing with stone tools as well as food shortages and labor shortages, would have limited the ceiling height to two meters, the standard height of doors and current tunnels. What would have been the point of making them three meters high?

The discovery of tunnels and galleries dug by prehistoric man are a recent discovery in Visoko. These are artificial canals that reach three meters in height and branch out inside the mountain. Similar to what is found in the Pyramid of Cheops in Giza, here too there are ventilation channels and a shape that we have found in other places in the world: the trapezoid section. This shape characterizes practically all parts of the galleries. A "signature" of the builders?

This overall complexity of the galleries' construction and cladding makes us ponder. Clearly, the site is megalithic and fully fits within the sanctuaries dedicated to the Mother Goddess and her Celestial Spouse, a pair modeled on the archetype of the Goddess Isis and the God Osiris of Ancient Egypt. But who inhabited these areas? And why do Osmanagic and other researchers hypothesize such an ancient construction date?

Regarding who built these structures, the Illyrians have been suggested, who populated much of the Balkan Peninsula. The Illyrians, staunch opponents of Rome, were an Indo-European but non-Celtic people who settled in the Balkan Peninsula starting from 1000 BCE. Although Osmanagic initially thought they were the builders of Visocica Hill, it is clear that it cannot be a people who emigrated from the Asian steppes but rather a population of probable pre-Indo-European origin (at least culturally) that left traces throughout the Mediterranean basin before the last ice melt.

Geologists from the University of Tuzla and specialists in sedimentology, mineralogy, and petrography from many other universities worldwide have highlighted that the rocks show traces of a period of submersion in water; for this reason, these scholars believe that the Pyramid of the Sun cannot be more recent than 12,000 BCE. Data on the other two structures are more uncertain, but the complex could not have been built in later times.

Semir Osmanagic, the discoverer of the pyramids of Bosnia, has become an important lecturer and independent researcher, even though he suffers furious attacks on a daily basis from the most obscurantist scientific community.

Researchers are aided by a fragment of wood found at the bottom of one of the underground galleries.

These galleries were first discovered by Bosnian soldiers during the Civil War of 1993-1995 and used as a weapons depot, without realizing their historical importance. Immediately after the war, they were forgotten until rediscovered by Osmanagic's study team.

There was thus some external contamination by the soldiers, but Carbon-14 dating can verify which traces are ancient and which are contemporary. The fragment of wood found by Osmanagic, according to what was revealed at an international conference held in Visoko in August 2008, shows the astonishing date of 35,000 BCE. This might not surprise those who study ancient myths and legends, as it corresponds to the date described by the Egyptian historian Manetho in the 3rd century BCE concerning the founding of the Egyptian kingdom. According to Manetho, the founding of the Government of the Gods dates back 36,525 years according to Egyptian documents. The Gods ruled for 13,900 years, followed by Demi-Gods and Spirits of the Dead who ruled for another 11,025 years, totaling 24,925 years, almost an entire cycle of the precession of the equinoxes. Additionally, 30,000 years ago marks the extinction of Neanderthal Man and the simultaneous rise of Homo Sapiens Sapiens Crô-Magnon version, the prototype of the most ancient pre-Indo-European peoples.

The matter of the Bosnian Pyramids remains largely obscure. A dedicated entity, the "Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun Research Foundation," has been created to protect and study this archaeological site, while UNESCO, the European Commission for Cultural Heritage, and the World Monuments Fund are considering possible safeguarding interventions for this cultural heritage that enriches every person on Earth. As we have seen, official Science vehemently opposes Osmanagic. While the Bosnian Government, through the Ministry of Tourism, is enthusiastically open to the possibility of the hills' artificiality, a group of 21 Bosnian scientists is strongly opposed to the studies in the Visoko region, accusing Osmanagic of recycling tomb slabs from a medieval necropolis as cladding for the pyramid.

For our part, we can say that these criticisms are unfounded and easily refutable in a dialectical confrontation, which traditionalist scientists seem to always fear. The Bosnian Pyramids are not unique; there are likely dozens of pyramids covered by trees and bushes, waiting to be uncovered. The example of the Mayan temples in Mexico, buried by the equatorial jungle, is emblematic of how much our planet still hides from us.
