Subject: Re: DEUSF & NWT.
I have been working with merging several .WAD files containing a multitude
of different things. And after about five or six hours of headaches, I've
come to a somewhat rational conclusion.
I can't get DEUSF to 'join' or 'merge' .WAD files without messing them up in
some fasion. Under SOUNDS.WAD, I have my new sounds, WEAPONS.WAD,
MONSTERS.WAD, FLOORS.WAD - you get the drift...
Trying to use "DEUSF -JOIN NEWWAD.WAD SOUNDS.WAD" works just fine, matter of
fact, it works perfectly in merging anything EXCEPT level data. When I try
to insert level data (any, in fact, in any position), running DOOM causes
major crashes, or the new textures from the monsters or weapons do not show
or cause palette failures.
The only way I was able to successfully put level data (my levels to go with
all the new stuff) was to use NWT's option "F4" to directly export the data
into a PWAD. Doing this manually through 9 levels is cumbersome.
Is this a fluke in DEUSF or should I be using a different command?
My MERGE.BAT file looks like this:
rem - first copy my 1st level - everything else gets added...
copy e1m1.wad NEWWAD.wad /y
rem - now join everything else in...
deusf -join NEWWAD.wad sounds.wad
deusf -join NEWWAD.wad walls.wad
deusf -join NEWWAD.wad weapons.wad

It seems that doom-editing has been having problems. I haven't located
any trouble spots, so I'm taking the easy way out by sending a message
to the list and watching what happens.
My apologies for the list's problems.

"s> Another point. Why the hell would I email you from a non-anonymous
"s> account, telling you that I'm gonna break into your system with the
"s> password you gave me and fuck you over. Do you think I'm really that
"s> dumb? I've been Dean's list since I arrived at RPI; I've never used
"s> AOL; I have posted before - back when Hexen just came out in November,
"s> and again when I developed my NWT clone for Hexen. I am not the idiot
"s> you take me to be. Nor am I "probably sitting back in your chair and
"s> laughing right now" (remember this, Chris?) I am most definitely not
"s> laughing. Mike destroyed everyone's trust in me, and now I am paying

"s> Let me sum up here. I didn't do it. I'm getting email telling me
"s> what crap I am for doing it. No-one's bothered to trace through and
"s> find who did do it. People think I'm scum, all on account of Mike's
"s> idiocy. I may have to unsubscribe if people don't bother to learn the
"s> truth before they flame.
It seems everyone involved was fairly stupid. (Although I admit, Mike did win
the Stupidity Award for that one... I wouldn't let my PARENTS have my password,
let alone 300+ strangers) Mike should have just uploaded it to cdrom.com and
say "Hey guys, get my patch from cdrom.com!" or set up a anonymous FTP on his
system. However, all seems well, Mike's a little wiser, and we are so far off
the topic of Doom editing we should all just shut our word-holes now.
(As for AOL: I was on there once. Took me two months to come back to my senses.
Now I just use those free disks for extra blanks. :)
