I've wondered this myself. It's a good question... I've always had misgivings
about TNT being sold at the last minute, but to discuss them right now is both
off-topic and pointless. Even so, I'd like to know how well it's doing....

Someone on here reported that after so many ammo clips, the game crashes if
you don't pick them up. However, this would seem to be more of a function of
how many items Doom can have in one place - as long as you pick the clips up it
works.
