Well I did two levels for Death Kings so I certainly know a fair bit about
scripting and polyobjs but I don't have the time to deal with writing a FAQ.
BUT, if people have questions that are of a more advanced nature concerning
HEXEN level design I would be glad to try and answer them via direct e-mail.
As for your question regarding a HEXEN mailing list, Joost used to run one
but has since removed all lists from his server. I don't believe anyone else
has a mailing list just for HEXEN but since it uses the DOOM engine I think
discussion about it would be appropriate for this list.

The problem is not with the people who send the "Confirmation of
reading" messages. The problem is with ppl sending a message to a
list with the "confirm reading" bit set. My emailer (Pegasus)
automatically generates a RCPT: message. No way around it.
Now, I've heard that it is possible to make majordomo send emails
that have RCPT: at the start of their subject to /dev/null . Check
out some of the majordomo list archives on www.GreatCircle.com for
more info.

Let's try something different. The above sentence, translated in a
more polite way, should read:
To the people who are using Pegasus Mail: there is an option in your
mailreader which allows you to turn off confirmation of reading
messages. You should always disable this if you are reading messages
from a mailing list, because your automatic notifications will be sent
to all users of the mailing list which will probably be irritated by
these useless messages.
To the other people on this mailing list, especially the ones who are
reading their mail under UNIX: you should use a mail filter which will
get rid of these messages automatically. I am using procmail and it
works fine for me (procmail is freeware and you can find it on many
ftp sites - look for procmail.tar.gz). Here is what I have in my
~/.procmailrc file, among lots of other things:
:0
* ^Subject:[ ]*RCPT:
{
:0 Bc
* Confirmation of reading:
JUNK/.
:0 ai
| cd JUNK && /bin/rm -f dummy `ls -t | sed -e '1,10d'`
}
This will store all "RCPT" messages in a folder called "JUNK" and will
only keep the last 10. You could also use this, which will simply
delete these messages:
:0 BH
* ^Subject:[ ]*RCPT:
* Confirmation of reading:
/dev/null
Sorry for this message which is not really about doom-editing, but I
think it can help the readers of this mailing list.

Perhaps, I'm wrong, but this has come up many times on many lists.
I'm not going to swear to it, but I heard from a number of list
administrators that ppl can turn off the "Send confirmation" in
Pegasus. Soon after an administrator told subscribers this, the
confirmations ceased.

Subject: LOOKING FOR DOOM ][ DESIGNERS.
Hello all editing keenists!
At the moment, I am conducting a DOOM ][ project. It will replace all 32
maps, music, and new graphics.
I am looking for at least 15 top grade level designers, with examples, to
become a part of the team and hopefully contribute great levels. The levels
will have Single Player, Co-Operative and Deathmatch in mind, and will be
challenging maps.
I'm also on the lookout for music and texture (graphic) designers. Is
anyone interested?
The still unnamed project is intended to be big, and with some work it can
be. It's just a matter of getting excellent level designers, and getting
them to do the appropriate task/s.
E-mail me to find out more about the project, and hopefully you can join!
I'd be interested in anyone who has great experience or can design levels,
graphics or music very well.
With kind regards,
- - Chris Thornton -

Does anyone have the code (or pseudo-code) to figure out what sector
a given point <x,y> lies in? Thanx.

Hi folks,
Sorry to keep you all waiting... there are just a few wrinkles to iron out
of the new list (like getting digest to work! ;) but we hope to have the
new service running fairly soon. More later.... thanks for your continuing
patience....
