ID is trying to release a really cool game that is even more immersive
than doom...this means the graphics (like maybe Christ hanging upside
down) are nessassary. Just because there are demonic pics dosen't mean
your evil...read the polt, you are fighting EVIL in it's own domain that
means there aren't going to be pics of flowers strone about.

THIS RELIGIOUS DEBATE ISN'T OFF TOPIC BUT IT IS FUN..I THINK...HEXEN
CRAP IS STARTING TO ANONY ME (EXCUSE THE CAPS I BROKE MY CAPS LOCKS..NOT
REALLY I JUST LIKE CAPS) ... I HATE GETTING MY MAIL WITH 80 UUENCODED
FILES AND A BUNCH OF LITTLE MESSAGE ASKING OFFSETS AND INTERGERS AND
CRAP...HAVING THAT STUFF HERE IS GREAT BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE REAL
DISSCUSSION...ABOUT DOOM HEXEN QUAKE OR ANYTHING ELSE.

Subject: New wad concept?
I wish there was a way to play deathmatch and NEED to collect keys. Reason
being is this:
I created a map with many buildings and each building has sniper outlook
points. The buildings are equally divided up to where they all have their
advantages and disadvantages.
When you are reincarnated, you have a choice between any one key before you
are thrown into the map.
Blue Keyed Doors: Great sniper outlooks but low end weapons
Red Keyed Doors:Great weapons but not so good sniper points
Yellow Keyed Doors:Just the shotgun is available as a weapon, but each yellow
building has some very interesting switches. Switching one manages to change
the odds and strategy of the game by putting up barriers between buildings
and removing barriers that one might depend upon.
Now get this, in every blue building, there is a blue key. In every yellow
building.. a yellow key and every red of course a red key. You see since you
can only start out with one key when you are reincarnated, the only way to
have access to more buildings would be to follow someone else into their
building and steal a key. (makes it quite a task to protect your back)
Finding aditional keys allows you access to better vantage points, better
weapons and/or to the switches.
Since all deathmatch games give you all the keys from the start, it takes my
new concept away. The only way to use this idea is to play cooperative. With
this there is no way to keep a good tally of frags and the weapons can only
be picked up once per life. What is worse is I cannot add enough ammo cause
it wont respawn.
If any of you have any ideas on this, let me know.
Pangier@aol.com
ALSO: I am also having slight problems with what believe is a limitation of
the doom engine. I've had to move some buildings around because I am getting
a visual plane error once in a while.. Does anyone know of any cure for this
besides moving whole buildings so that any one line of sight does not have to
plot too much?

That means your level is for Sniper only. I for one don't like Sniper
Levels. However...
Don't you think it's a bit unfair to give the players the weapons
by random? Hmm...
However, you could use other tricks to avoid the player taking
all weapons. Make the starting-points on top of some columns, let the
player use a switch, which opens 3 doors - he must take one of these.
Simply all these doors lead to different rooms with weapons - be sure
the player can't get back on top of the column.
After getting the weapons the player will automatically go to the
sniper-arena or something. Since this is always the same starting, it
might be a bit boring after respawning 50 times...anyway...
Adding the possibility for another player to steal weapons isn't
that hard... open a back-door or something.

Don't say your Deathmatch-Level has problems with 'No-more-visplanes' or
HOMs! I think DM-Levels should be fast, that means: not too much
decoration. Only useful stuff. Clear corners, stairs and stuff - none of
these little decoration-stuff you would do in normal single-player or co-op
levels...
P.S. I hope someone really did something for Morphius...

Well, first of all, I like your ideas and I hope
The-Game-Formerly-Known-as-Quake will be able to support them, even if
Doom isn't.
Secondly, visiplane crashes are caused by having too many
different floors and ceilings (NOT linedefs) in view--try cutting down on
the different floor and ceiling heights, or if you have lots of different
light levels and/or flashing lights try changing them to one steady light
level. (You don't actually have to delete any linedefs or merge any
sectors to do this--just changing the sectors' different characteristics
so they are all equal, will do.)

there is no reason to delete anything, unless you installed a new operating
system in the period between the time the virus became active and now, in
that case, get rid of the os, and reinstall later. the monkey virus does no
harm to your computer, all it does is to screw up your disk formatting
table, you can get a fix for it from the ibm ftp site (not sure of the ip#)
this table will be fixed without messing up any of your data, if you havent
deleted doom2, dont, get the fix, use it, everything should work ok then,
the monkey virii are quite sneaky, you may have to do one hell of a check to
figure out what file its contained in. try only using a few programs and
then check for the virus, use the progs you normally use most often, if its
in there, narrow it down til you get it, it also may be contained in a
lesser used function in one of your progs too, so be sure to use every
function in each prog (at least the ones you will ever use)if that goes ok
(i.e. no Monkey A or B found) then use your computer as you usually do, and
keep track of what progs you use that you dont usually use, do a check every
few hours or so until you find out where its coming from, delete that app
and reinstall, etc. etc. hope this helps
me--- who has had way to much experience dealing with the monkey on my back

I think this is an awsome idea, however I couldn't think of a way to do it
in doom. I do think you can do it in HEXEN however, but I'm going to check
pretty soon. In hexen their are flags for appearing in DM appearing in COOP
and single player.. This was good idea, whoever came up with it.
Anyway pretty soon I'm going to test this out in HEXEN, but I don't know if
it's possible to do in DOOM. One thing you might try are temporary multiple
use switches in the "starting room" or wherever the player starts.
For example, make three or four switches. Each one would sort of
corresspond to the building that the key would have opened if there were
keys in DeathMatch.
Say have a switch that opens a door for 6 seconds, the player has to throw
it, get onto the map, find the building get in, and there are more switches
inside.
This is kinda lame, 'cause the most time the player would ever have is 6
secs., but it's about all I could come up with.
