Please forgive my greeness.. But I cannot for the life of me figure out how
to import new graphics into a pwad with DCK (either new graphics or ones from
a pwad that I liked) Speaking of DCK, Would anyone have a manual on it? Some
of the more complex things I am attempting require an in depth understanding
of the program.
HELP!!

I've been having trouble getting PolyObjects to work. There are only two
pages in the Hexen Specs that I have (0.9). It might be also the editors
I'm using. Did the authors of HETH and DEEP actually try to make some
PolyObjects? Any help on how to set them up, how to put them to work would
be deeply appreciated (so would HCK . . .)

Hmm... That's odd. I was able to download it from the /pub/idgames/newstuff
directory yesterday. Is that the directory from which you tried to get it?

Why, so people can easily make WADs that work with the demo? I don't think
so.

Subject: WEEKLY REMINDER : Beginner's Questions
This message is being posted at the request of the list's caretakers.
In this you will find: the purpose of this list, how to get answers
to less than 'expert' questions, how to get info about the list, and
what can get you kicked off the list. If you are new to this list,
please take a moment to read the short note that follows. It will
help to get you up to speed and, may save you some grief in the future.
====================================================================
FROM: the list caretaker; *** A REMINDER ***
The DOOM-editing list is not a list aimed at newcomers to
DOOM-editing. Its purpose is to provide discussions on *advanced*
DOOM editing techniques, as well as discussions on the variations of
the DOOM engine. Many of its members are not tolerant of repeated
"beginners" questions. Sorry--that's just the way they are ;) There
is much that beginners can learn from the list, however, and we would
like the list to be of use to as many subscribers as possible.
In the past, there has been much moaning about new subscribers asking what
old-hands feel to be "typical newbie questions", usually posted in
ignorance of the fact that the topic has been discussed to death
previously. This leaves newcomers in a quandary: to post or not to post?
Well, help is at hand. The "Beginners Questions Service" can act as a
buffer between you and the higher echelons of the DOOM-editing elite,
conceited lot that they are. It works like this: if you have a question but
don't know whether it's advanced or not, and would like to avoid any
potential embarrassment from asking the question in front of the whole
list, you are encouraged to mail it in the first instance to:
John Wakelin : johnw@datametrics.com
Your question will either be answered or, if deemed appropriate for the
list, forwarded to it. This service is offered as a potential red-face
saving and list-annoyance abatement service: there is absolutely no
requirement on anyone to make use of this service, but doing so may get you
an answer quicker than sending to the list, and can potentially save you
from finding yourself in the middle of a flaming. But then, as a DOOMster,
you can take a toasting, right?
**NOTE: If your questions are prefixed with the code WQ: in the subject
field (e.g. Subject: WQ: Sprites), they will be processed quicker because
they will be brought to light sooner!**
====================================================================
Remember also, that if you want any general info about this list,
including instructions for unsubscribing from the list, you should
send mail to the list-server, thus:

**How to get kicked off DOOM-Editing**
This list looks very unfavorably upon chain-letters (No matter what
the cause). The caretakers have indicated that persons posting these
items to this list are subject to immediate unsubscription with no
warning.
The admin of this list also looks very unfavorably upon any off-topic
discussions whether they be religious arguments, Quake or public flaming
via the list. Discussion should be relevant to DOOM, Heretic or
Hexen editing. Discussions of Quake are relevant only to the extent
that they relate to the released id games, that means that that they
are usually off-topic. NOTE: Posts from John Romero are generally
considered exempt from this rule. :)
So far, admin has specifically stated that the religious battles as
well as public flaming via the list are the other things that will
get you kicked from the list without warning. So, if you must stoop
to slapping at someone verbally, please, do so via PRIVATE mail.
CONSIDER THIS YOUR WARNING.

Please note that you should send bug fixes and updates to

I'll put updated versions on the page as soon as I get
them from Mark. I hope that will ease things a bit for
those whose mail accounts suffer from large postings. Any
updates will be announced on this list.

All I'm going to say about this is that all of the stuff (scripts, enemies,
textures, flats, etc..) that are it the first 4 stages are usuable. (DUH!)
But, all weapons and items are in the demo, that I know of. (I may be wrong)
Other Hexen notes:
Has anyone tried using NWT with the Hexen WAD? It works, although most of the
pictures are messed up due to a changed palette.
The MAPxx entries are NOT 0. They are actually 13 bytes long, and it sayes, in
ASCII, "version 2.3". Huh?
Unknown: The last 4 entries in the WAD: Named Hexen, Orb, Hub, and Chess.
Gusses?

Import Grafix with DCK? Is that possible? (I dumped DCK when I found ED-209
:-). I always used wintex for Grafix importing. You could use NWT also. I
have heard that is is good, too.
Manual for DCK? Uh..., the online help? I think that's as much as you'll get.
:-(

FrancisGA@aol.com
Wait a minute! Do you mean VIEW a grafix and texture name in DCK's texture
list? If so, It's easy in windeu, just load the pwad with the grafix in it.
For ED-209, merge your grafix with doom2 (using deusf), run setup, and select
the last option. This will recompile all of it's textures and flats data.
Then use deusf to restore your doom2 wad. I don't know about DCK, though.

Subject: Platform inside Platform ..Floating weapons...
Any thaughts on this behaviour...
main sector sorounding this one has floor=0 ceil=128
1------------------
| | ======> Sector 1 floor=256 ceil=256
| 2------- |
| | | |
| | X |==> |
| | | c2=80| X= Plasma Rifle
| ------- f2=0 |
| | |
| ->Sr1 ## | ## Lowers outside sector 1
| |
----------------- ---> All 4 Lindefs are Platform Sr triggerd
I was experimenting with having a platform lower from inside the
ceiling to reveal another platform carrying a weapon. You would then
have to travel on the first platform to retrieve the weapon. As an
added feature I wanted the outside platform to sourround the player as
he grabbed the weapon from the inside platform.
After lowering the outside sector the first thing I noticed was
that the inside platform appears to have no lower texture and so the
weapon looks like its *floating* in mid air (cool) I guess this is the
ssee thru door effect maybe...(why does this happen?). When you travel
on the outside platform and reach the top of the inside one you get a
slight HOM effect :( as the top of the platform comes into your line
of sight (can I get rid of this?) AS you step onto the inside platform
to retrieve the weapon the outside sector raises around you *BUT* it
appears that each wall raises at different times!!!! This looks cool,
like each wall raised at a different time in quick succsession...can
be quite disturbing if the texture is a crusified dude :)
If you guys know about this, great .. I would love to get rid of
the HOM effect when the line of sight reaches the top of the inside
sector..
If you have no Idea what Im talking about I can email you a small
wad to demonstate this.
Thx
Doc
P.S. used DCK
