Who here has written software?

Those who answered yes know why it won't make Christmas.

Those who answered no have no business asking the question :)

OK, you asked for them, here they are. I don't guarantee that these
numbers are correct, or even anywhere close. But they should give
someplace to start. They are taken from the first Hexen demo/beta thing.
I haven't bothered to give names to everything, so I'm going to list ID
numbers and sprites. I'm also going to take out "duplicate" items. And,
there may have been some items missed (either because they weren't yet in
the first Hexen demo (doubtful) or because my editor doesn't read them
yet). With all those caveats, here is the actual info:

Boy, do I know what you are saying. Look my friend Morphius, it's
called BUGS. Anyone who attempts a massive undertaking like Quake is
bound to be both A. completely insane and B. fraught with bugs. After
all, can you imagine all the work and programming that goes behind such
a complicated and complex game such as Quake? Many of the people who
buy the game, play it, love it, and then whine about the sequel never
think about the programmers who have to slave over computers, agonizing
over bugs that at the time they can't solve, dying when things don't
appear right or suddenly cause the all-dreaded GPF (in Windoze, that
is), or crash to DOS. Sit back and think of the work that iD has to do
to produce Quake. Hundreds, perhaps thousands of hours of texture and
sound design. Thousands of hours of programming. Hundreds of hours of
beta testing and network play. Throw in a couple hundred of hours for
box design <grin> and you've got Quake. So think about how long that
would take with your average programmer working 10 or 12 hours a day
(Yeah right! Well, at least I don't, but I can't speak for the
programmers at iD...). A year? Two years? Perhaps even three? And then
you might say, "But, but, but they've had a year to do it!!". That was
before they found out that a line of code causes a crash in network
play and had to rewrite, or any number of bugs. Be a bit more
sympathetic with the programmers - for without them, there would be no
game!

Well, that's my $.02...hey, I'm sure you've all heard of TWC, why don't
you join! I hear it's a great wad making group..:)

1) german games magazines suck. (just one thing: they are too coward to
write the word 'Doom')
2) why should Carmack leave id??? Bullshit. But Abuse is reality - I think
it's a kinda jump-&-run-shoot-everything-you-can game.
3) Everyone at id seems to have his own little kid: Romero with Hexen and
Carmack with Abuse. :)

Bullshit. As of today November 12. - no 3D-game reaches the perfection,
playability and success of Doom. If you can't wait; be quiet and play
TNT (when released) and Memento Mori (when released). :)

Btw, the name 'Satan Paint' rules. :)

HERE HERE,

I agree completely, I am no expert programmer but...

I write software for myself becuase most of it is not worth putting out
even as freeware because it is not that commonly wanted but... It is
the worst feeling in teh world when you think it is done and you are
testing it when suddenly BOOM! CRACKLE! POP! SMOKE! it explodes in your
face.

Don't complain if 'your' game isn't ready to play when you want it unless
you think you can do better
