WARM can achieve the same functionality as DMAPEDIT's node builder
if you use the -n=!u option (yes, I know it's totally unclear from the help/
docs).

As for the NEWDOOR.WAD itself, doors #1 and #3 look like the standard
transparent doors to me. The reason door #1 (closest to player start)
doesn't work is that the door track linedefs are # higher than the door
linedefs. Door #3 correctly has the door track linedefs numbered less
than the door linedefs. The main problem with door #3 is that the door
bars extend into the ceiling when the door is raised. However, this effect
can be removed by making the height of the door track sector one less than
the height of the sectors outside the door. This can't be immediately done
with door #3 since the door track sector is the same as the outside sector.

I never considered viewing a transparent door from below, but the
HOM-like effect is the same as when the door is raised. The key thing is
that DooM tries to draw the ceiling of the 1/1 sector when the ceiling is
above the player's viewpoint. Frankly, I don't yet understand why the
particular nodes that DMAPEDIT or WARM (with -n=!u) remove the effect. I
think perhaps it has something do to with that DooM thinks the 1/1 sector
of the far door side is obscured by the door track sector and so doesn't
ever bother drawing the ceiling, but I don't really know.
