I use WinTex (V 3.4, I think). This is a Windows interface for DeuTex
(so it should be also possible with DeuTex, if you prefer DOS). It
works fine (but you have to get used to it). As far as I remember, it
works also for Heretic - I extracted some textures for Windows wall
papers...

No, I am using DETH for DOS. Deth runs in protected mode, and any program
that runs in protected mode is prone to GP faults. Windows 95 should pretty
much fix GP faults. Long live Windows 95! (and the early-in-development
windows 5.0).

Yes I know. I've used DJGPP and some of the nasty GP faults are caused my accessing NULL
strings or strcpy NULL strings.

Are you using DEU, WARM or DEUTEX for DOOM? WHY NOT??

Player color does have an effect on the fairness of the game, by all
means, and it is possible to control player color over a network through
tinkering, but you still can't have two players of the same color, and
they're still going to go by DOOM's precedence (you can't have a red player
without a green one, etc)
Personaly, I'm simply going to replace the player sprites with a new one
that is a dark grey or some other hard to spot color and use only a small
shoulder patch for player identification. That way you'll have to get up
cloe and personal before you'll see a difference. It'll also be an
interesting challenge for folks who like to know exactly who it is they're
fraggin'. :)
