I've found what could be (as far as I know) and undocumented
difference between the commercial and pirated versions of DOOM2 circulated
before its official release. Some people, when playing my Avatar2 wad,
found that on map12 the sky didn't change to RSky2 (pitch black in that
particular wad) even though the Rsky 1 and 2 entries were different. If
you've noticed that the sky isn't changing when you hit map12 (without
idclev'ing or -warp'ing there) this might be a good time to hit the stores..
also on a side note: In Heretic, it seems that sometimes atmospheric sounds
will overpower themselves, such that a wind
sound could be heard throughout a level when a "drip drop" sound right next to
you is inaudible. Is there really a radius involved here or do the environmental
sounds follow the regular doom sound rules? Are there any other odd limitations?

How have registered users been informed that Ultimate Doom was available?
I've still not seen anything other than what's been posted here.
Does anyone know when DEU 5.3 might be out? I've looked at a lot of other
editors but haven't found one that I'm as comfortable with as DEU.
I'm also looking for a PWAD for wimps. My 6 year old daughter likes to
play DOOM. It'd be nice if there were a PWAD which took it from it's
current 'M 17+' rating down to something tamer. You know, maybe magic
wands instead of weapons, no gore, etc.

If you do the NOISE cheat in heretic, you can see that some of the sounds
have priority over others. I would assume (?) that the reason for that is
becuase the drip drop sound has little proirity over other sounds in the
game, while they gave the wind sound a higher priority.

I've seen this thread come and go a few times on r.g.c.d.e. & there seems
to be quite a few people interested in designing levels for children.
But it also seems that the thread gets broken because people bite off a
bit more than they can chew since the idea more or less implies a total
conversion and nobody has the time for that while raising a young family.
Every time the idea comes around again I think how it's a great and
doable idea - but people interested in it have to get together and form
their own minigroup in the doom-editing community, exchanging files and
ideas etc. From what I gather a lot has already been done, making a lot
of pieces for this kind of total conversion, but it's never been put
together and the files seem to get lost because alone they just aren't
enough.

Could that just be a difference in versions then, the pirate copy being
a prerelease version, with the official one being slightly later?
Are the file sizes & dates of the EXE's & WAD's the same?
