ftp://Ftp.Cdrom.Com/pub/idgames/utils/wad_tools/wad1to2b.zip

It comes with source and isn't all that hard to get it too compile under
unix...

Subject: Doom executable hack utilities...

Greetings,
I've spent a little time looking around for a killer little
program called DEHackEd, which was poised to become REALLY popular
when I last saw it. (It had just put a nice interface on it, and was
going to be updated to support Doom 2 when it came out.)

I can't find it anywhere. (*da-blink?*) It *CAN'T* have just
vanished from the face of the earth, it was too useful a program! I
used an early version of it to be the first person to build the
'vicious attack barrels' patch... I wanted to demo this to someone
recently, but I can't find the program anymore.

If someone could point me to a good source of these utilities I'd
appreciate it muchly. (Have they been expanded to include Heretic
yet?)

While I wouldn't *MIND* writing my own, I recall a great deal of
effort going into DEHackEd and reinventing the wheel isn't one of my
top preferences in programming. 'Sides, the new interface looked like
it was going to be slick. Still, if it's no longer available, for
whatever reason, is anyone else interested in assisting in writing a
new equivelant of it? (I especially would like to hack on Heretic...)

-- Morgan Schweers

p.s. The one site which I located via 'archie' which had it has
had to remove all Doom 2 and Doom related files, because the
programs are, evidently, prohibited in Germany. ARGH.

Use either BSP12X, WARM, or DEEPBSP. I recommend WARM (since I help test
and port it. :-) ).

As my politely stuffed mailbox will attest, DeHackEd is still alive and
well. The last version I'm going to make is v2.3, and was released a
month or so ago. It has a few changes over v2.0 (which you must have
seen) so it should be even a bit better for you. Especially check out
the cool patches I include with v2.3. :-) You can pick up DeHackEd v2.3
and its companion program for Heretic, HHE v1.0, at ftp.cdrom.com. The
directory to check in is /pub/idgames/utils/exe_edit, and the filenames
are dhe23.zip and hhe10.zip. Good luck finding them, and have fun...

You can find it on ftp.cdrom.com or one of it's mirror sites under
/pub/doom/utils/exe_edit . The newest version is dhe23.zip.
Some mirror sites in europe are:

Austria flinux.tu-graz.ac.at/pub/idsoftware/
Netherlands ftp.sls.wau.nl/pub/msdos/doom/
England ftp.dungeon.com/pub/msdos/games/IDgames/
Sweden ftp.luth.se/pub/games/doom/
France anasgard.calvacom.fr/pub/pc/doom

Hope that helps,
Mark

Subject: Unknown_Player_Special

I am halfway thru creating my first big doom level, but now when i run it
in doom, i get dumped back to dos with the error :

Uknown_Playet_InSpecial : 2282

Or something similar. What does it mean and how can i rectify it.
I've checked it with the checkers in DEU and DCK which say there's an
unclosed sector and DoomEd 4.2 which thinks it's fine. I can't see any
objects outside of defined sectors. I've tried rebuilding it with BSP and
IDBSP but nothing seems to get rid of it. HELP!!!!!

It's been a while since anyone posted information about the stair linedefs.
Can people who have experimental results post or repost their results? Don't
be afraid to post partial results or results that disagree with someone else.
If there is any ambiguity, we want to root it out and resolve it.

Just don't post any hearsay information. I don't want to propagate any
bullshit like the "16 linedef" urban legend. If you haven't experienced it,
don't post.

You can find it as the file dhe23.zip (I believe) somewhere in
ftp.cdrom.com. I believe it is probably in a sub-directory under

ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/idgames/utils

Alternately (as it is fairly new) It may still be in the
/pub/idgames/newstuff directory but I think it is more than a few weeks
old.

Has anyone here discovered that you can actually outrun the rockets
in DOOM (without turbo!). If you shoot a rocket while running
diagonally, and continue to pursue it diagonally, you will actually run
PASSED the rocket. This will only work in a long stretch of
uninterruptible land (no "things" or other abruptions). This means
running diagonally is considerably faster than running straight, because
you can't outrun a rocket running straight. Just something I discovered
lately. :) It was funny, because at one point I ran right passed the
rocket and it actually hit me from behind! I don't know if owning a P90
has anything to do with it.
