Subject: doom.exe stereo pair hack
It is commonly known that a stereo 3d image can be created with lcd
shutter glasses and an image which shifts between one vantage point and
another translated slightly in one direction.
So a friend and I got to thinking about hacking the doom.exe/doom2.exe to
provide a shifting image and a sync pulse out of the com port to trigger
changes in the glasses. The only problem is, even after reading the
unofficial doom specs (which were excellent by the way) there is still a
lot left to be answered. We are not assembly gods, and as such editing
like this seems almost impossible.
We tried some still 3d images manually and used Fresnel lenses to view
them...beautiful!
Questions:
- - is it even feasible to do an assembly edit like this?
- - would ID give out source to small sections of code given that all
rights to our edits go to them? (ha, yeah right)
I just think that doom could make the translation to 3d really nicely.

1) Yes.
2) Doom I
3) Heretic -- The main complaint seems to be against the textures, but aren't
most of these going to be changed?

Don't waste your time with DOOM. However, I *did* ask American about Quake
on SGIs with polarized light screens (ie, stereo vision). He said that such
would not be coded directly into the source, but that enough portions of the
source code would be released to the public that it would probably be possible
to write the code yourself in C.

I think I have solved the empty-/duplicate-message problem, and if
anything of the sort happens from now on, I would appreciate hearing
about it.
