You are absolutely correct. I asked Adrian Carmack today whether this was true or not, and he
said,"I had the ArchVile already drawn way before DOOM II. His head looked really awesome and evil,
so I created a wall texture that foreshadowed his coming in our sequel, DOOM II. I knew people
would ask about the head sometime after DOOM got out, so I wanted to create a mystery object in the
game. The wall looks like I wanted the ArchVile's head to be in the actual sprite, but the wall has
lots more pixels to represent what I wanted than the actual sprite."
