Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup milk
- 4 large eggs
- 1/3 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup poppy seeds
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- Zest of 2 oranges
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in almond extract and orange zest.
- In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and poppy seeds.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients alternately with milk and orange juice, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
- Pour the batter into a greased 9-inch cake pan.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
