Subject: Market pressures - Hops and Grain

Regarding the Hop/Grain price increases, the Brewing Network just did a
"Sunday session" show (12/2 is the date) and had as guests Ralph Olsen,
President of Hopunion, and Ian Ward, President of Brewers Supply Group.
They both covered all the market pressures, and it was a fascinating show.

Subject: Max Ferment Temp

In an attempt to make a more flavorful Hefeweizen, I decided to try
fermenting warmer than usual.
Since I don't own a brew belt, I decided to simply push my carboy
tangent to a corner section of baseboard
heaters, crank the thermostat to 70, cover with an insulating mound of
blankets, and call it a night.
Upon waking I found the brew fermenting vigorously and my temperature
to be... what is my temperature? It's
off the scale of one of those stick on LCD thermometers, meaning 80F
plus !! I took a "wrist reading"
and I'm guessing the warm glass to be about 90F! My question is: Can
I safely drink this stuff when it's done? Will I suffer crushing
headaches or other ailments? I'm brewing with SafBrew WB-06 - the
new dry wheat beer strain. I've pulled the fermenter away from the
heater, lowered the thermostat to 65F,
hopefully that lower the carboy to near-normal temps by the time I get
home from work today. Has Anyone
had a similar experience that turned out ok? Thanks, Rich
