Subject: different bottle sizes

Hi everyone. I have a question that hopefully someone out there=20

can shed some light on. I brew basic partial mash ales. My latest=20

effort was bottled using both 500ml and 330ml bottles. What I=20

have noticed is that the larger bottles have a slight but distinctly=20

sharper bitterness/hop taste too them when compared to the=20

330ml bottles. I have used the combination of bottles before=20

and never noticed this. I used high alpha hops (green bullet and=20

super alpha =96 all I can get in New Zealand at present) both for=20

boiling, flavour and aroma. The only noticeable difference between=20

the bottles would be that I used 1 carbonation drop (sorry to the=20

purists) for each bottle. Can anyone tell me in layman=92s terms why=20

the flavour would be slightly different? Are my taste buds playing

tricks on me?

Cheers

Greg

Subject: World Cup of Beer Competition

Reminder Entries are due this Saturday

The Bay Area Mashers of Berkeley, CA proudly announce the 14th Annual
World Cup of Beer Competition. The competition is sanctioned by the
American Homebrewers Association, and is a qualifying event for MCAB. We
are using the 2004 BJCP Style Guidelines, as we are "grandfathered" for
this year.

We invite you to participate; by entering our competition and/or helping
to staff our judging rounds as a Judge or Steward.

Entries should be received by March 8th. Both are preliminary and final
judging rounds will be held at Trumer Brauerei in Berkeley, CA on March
22th and March 29th respectively. For those of you who participated last
year, a good time was had by all. We will either have judging outside or
make sure the warehouse is not as chilly.

More information on the competition, our sponsors, and registration can be
found on our website: http://www.bayareamashers.org/WCHome.htm.

Entries are $7 and we require three 10-17 ounce brown bottles with no
distinguishing marks on the bottle or cap. Well blacked out caps are OK.
Nip bottles (6-8 oz.) are OK for Barley Wine. Ribbons will be awarded and
mailed to the top three entries of each flight category (present or not).
First selection of prizes will go first to those present at the awards
ceremony, and as arranged locally with Oak Barrel Winecraft.

Entries may be delivered in person to NCAL MoreBeer! Showrooms, or The Oak
Barrel Winecraft in Berkeley, CA.

All entries sent through the mail or UPS should be sent to the Berkeley
Oak Barrel location below. Pack your entries carefully and time them to
arrive by March 8, 2008.
