Derinkuyu, the ancient underground city built to protect humanity?
For centuries, stories have been told of caves and tunnels in the depths of the earth, underground passages that lead to kingdoms of demons and monsters. Is it possible that these legends hide a surprising truth? Perhaps there really are mysterious and inexplicable places beneath our feet, places whose origins may not be of this world.
Cappadocia, in eastern Turkey, is bordered to the north by the Black Sea and to the south by the Taurus mountain range. In 1963, a simple renovation in the city of Derinkuyu leads to an extraordinary discovery. The opening of the wall of a cave reveals a passage towards an underground city, thousands of years old, over 85 meters deep.
There are thirteen floors that go underground, with ventilation shafts and around fifteen thousand vents that bring air to even the deepest levels. Incredible as it may be, the discovered rock chambers could contain around 20 thousand people, including men, women and children. There are even traces of religious centers, warehouses, wine presses and livestock stables.
In the underground levels, dining rooms, kitchens blackened by soot, cellars, food shops, a school, numerous lounges and even a bar were found. The city benefited from the presence of an underground river and water wells. It was a small, completely self-sufficient city, which still amazes scholars and engineers today.
Building a city like Derinkuyu would have been a feat for anyone, even in modern times and with modern equipment. To think that such a work was created in such a remote era is simply astonishing, comparable only to the pyramids of Egypt.
At Derinkuiu, due to the softness of the stone, one had to be very careful to provide enough support to the upper floors with the pillars, otherwise there would be catastrophic collapses. Instead, the absence of any trace of serious collapse is surprising, so we must assume that engineers must have been particularly skilled and knew the rock material very well.
We are talking about very ancient peoples, and it is difficult to imagine how they could have managed to create such a work. Maybe they were helped by some other civilization?
But who built this huge underground city? And what mysterious motivation pushed them to live underground? Why would anyone want to live deep in these strange caves?
According to many archaeologists and scholars, it is likely that Derinkuyu served as a temporary refuge during invasions and was built around 800 BC by the Phrygians, a Bronze Age people related to the Trojans. Others believe it was built by the Hittites, a warrior people mentioned in the Bible who had prospered hundreds of years before. But is it possible that the underground city is even older? According to the theorists of the "Ancient Astronauts" it is, and perhaps several thousand years old.
Zoroaster
Cappadocia was part of the empire of Zoroaster, of Persian origin, with one of the oldest religious traditions of humanity.
The religion of Zoroaster, an ancient faith based on the opposing forces of good and evil, is believed to have strongly influenced both Hinduism, Judaism and Christianity.
Founded around the 6th century BC, its main god is the creator Ahura Mazda. In the second chapter of the Zorastrian sacred text “Avestā”, Ahura Mazda saves the entire human race from a global environmental disaster, a bit like the story of Noah in the Hebrew Bible.
The great prophet Yima was commissioned by the creator to build the palace “Vara of Yima” in order to protect all creatures from the impending disaster. According to the theorists of theAncient Astronauts, this palace should be identified with the work created in Derinkuyu.
As the sacred texts tell, Yima built a multi-story underground city to protect a select group of people and animals not from the flood, but from a global ice age.
In the “Vendidad” it is referred to as the “evil winter”. According to many classical climatologists, the last ice age occurred about 18 thousand years ago, ending around 10 thousand BC. Is it possible that Derinkuyu was built as a refuge from a devastating global winter?
Since the stone cannot be carbon dated, anyone can speculate on how ancient Derinkuyu is. But if Derinkuyu were to be the underground city that Ahura Mazda ordered built, perhaps there is a surprising historical core behind the legend. If so, who or what was the god Ahura Mazda?
From the Zoroastrian sacred texts, Ahura Mazda appears to be responsible for managing everything that happens on Earth.
It can be read in various ways: it could represent a sort of form of universal consciousness that supervises the life of the universe and humanity, or, much more concretely, it could represent an extraterrestrial intelligence that watches over the planet.
Almost all ancient sacred texts speak of knowledge given to mankind by "gods" descended from heaven. Is it possible that Ahura Mazda was an intelligent being from another world and that he was recognized as a god by ancient terrestrial populations? And if so, has he provided the technology necessary for his followers to build this complex labyrinth of protection against an environmental disaster?
But there may be another disturbing reason behind the construction of Derinkuyu. According to some scholars, a clue would be the unusual security system of the underground city, made with 500 kg doors placed on wheels and which can be moved by a single person.
These doors were made with great ingenuity. In practice, they can only be opened by leveraging from the inside. This suggests that everyone who lived in Derinkuyu was hiding from something or someone.
According to ancient Zoroastrian texts, Ahura Mazda rises to heaven in a divine chariot and wages war against his eternal enemy Angra Mainyu, the demon of destruction. Is it possible that this is, as many Ancient Astronaut theorists claim, a depiction of two extraterrestrial forces clashing for control of the Earth and its resources?
Only advanced intelligences could have had the ability to take flight with aerial vehicles (divine chariots). These entities were in possession of the kind of machines that we read about in every ancient culture in the world! Just think of the "Vimana" of the Hindu tradition or the "Chariot of Fire" in the Hebrew Bible which kidnaps the prophet Elijah and takes him to heaven.
If we take Zoroastrian tradition into consideration, there are clear hints of some sort of air battle between warring factions. Therefore, it is very likely that the Derinkuyu caves were used as a shelter against aerial bombardments by extraterrestrials fighting each other.
If an aerial vehicle flies over Derinkuyu at high speed, it will never be able to see the air vents of the underground city. Derinkuyu is the air raid shelter par excellence!
