Hi All,
I'm planning to build a small cider house this summer and wanted to see if
there were any best practices or actual plans that folks could send me so
that as I design mine I don't miss any key ingredients. Here are the basic
components of what I want:
- - I press around 100-200 gallons per year, and have a few different antique
grinders and presses, so I don't need a lot of space and don't plan to go
big because I rely just on the 50 or so wild apple trees that grow on the
stone walls of my family's old dairy farm.
- - I don't plan to sell, so don't need all the sanitary kitchen stuff,
although I will probably put a utility sink inside so I don't have to wash
buckets on the ground.
- - My main goal is to press right where the presses are stored, rather than
the current practice of dragging these presses from out of the old chicken
coop, down a hill and into the driveway to press. So, I need to be able to
wash the floors.
- - I'll be building it myself on a limited budget. There is lots of flat
stone around that I can use for a foundation, but I'll probably use
dimensional lumber for the structure.
- - Pictures of your cider houses are most welcome!
[Please note that the Digest doesn't accept anything except text; however
you can stash the photos somewhere and supply links. --da janitor]
Thanks for any feedback!
