Yeah, I was fooling around. Long-time readers will know I wouldn't send an
admin email item from my alter-ego's personal email. I also included the
URL of a site that would tip you off.
But I will note that if I *did* want to kill off the Cider Digest, all I'd
have to do is stop cleaning up reply-postings where people include an entire
copy of the previous Digest. The Digest would rocket up in size; within a
month it would reach many megabytes per issue and become unreadable.
Instead of a Cider Digest you'd have a real-world lesson on the math meaning
of "exponential".

I regards to discontinuing the Digest. I am new to cider as of the last 3
years (ran a company for one of those). While questions may have been
asked before, many new people are here now and have not read the answers.
As for the format, I have worked in the high tech world for almost 20 years
and still enjoy this format for information. IT brings forth that which is
most on the mind of the community, a feature that gets lost in many other
forums.

April Fools right? The digest provides an honest forum for cider lovers
new and old. I read and save each one. It's a wealth of knowledge and the
contacts are invaluable. I love the digest!

Cute.
I was already racking my brain for a way to preserve and index and distill
the collected (and assertedly oft repeated) wisdom.
Got me.
Now, if we had a good search system, I could pursue and undoubtedly answer
a question that has long mystified me, but which I have never bothered
to investigate. In colonial times it seems most everyone made their own
hard cider--as a way of preserving the apples, among other things, I'm told.
So, I understand taking the process to the nth degree, as most on this list
seem bent on doing. But surely the colonists had none of the skills and
equipment and chemicals and understanding of chemistry that we have today.
So, why can't we small growers just make up some hard cider like the
colonists did, simply, easily, without high-falutin' tests and equipment?
I'm sure the answer is out there, but I suspect many who are on this list
have wondered the same thing.

Hello -
A few friends and I are interested in learning about the basics of cider
making. Is there anyone on the mailing list who offers workshops?
We're in southern Ontario. Thanks.
