Subject: Golden Russet

So I just read Ben Watson's latest book, Cider Hard & Sweet. He defines
the North American Golden Russet apple as an "American Golden Russet
(Bullock Pippin)" and just "Golden Russet". I am growing the American
Golden Russet. I have heard that the growing habits between the 2 are an
easier way to differentiate then by apple appearance since they look very
similar. Unfortunately, I only have the one so cannot compare as they say
the "Golden Russet" that came from Geneva grows more "weapier", i.e. longer
branches.

Ben describes the "Golden Russet" as a high sugar variety. So my real
question is, does the "American Golden Russet" have the same sugar levels
as the "Golden Russet" or what are the differences?

I am aware of the English and Hunt Russets, but only trying to figure out
the difference between the Bullock and the Golden here.

Thanks,
Dustin Hostetler

Thank you! I've corrected the date in the article. However, some websites list January 1980 as the date of death.
