Please, ciderists and cider-lovers: When you reply to something in the
Cider Digest, trim the included text and leave only what's relevant to your
reply. DO NOT leave the entire previous Digest in your reply!
It's extra work for me to clean up postings which include entire digests.
If I didn't clean them up, the size of the digests would grow exponentially!
Yes, I'm the janitor here. But no, that doesn't mean you should -make-
messes for me to clean up.
There's probably a policy change coming if the problem continues. I
realize people slip up occasionally in their replies, but what I'm seeing
is not just the occasional "oops".

When I was homebrewing I used to love martinelli's bottles. I used 26mm
standard beer caps and never had any trouble with crimping, but you have to
use a bench capper, the clamshell type can break the necks off, as they are
designed for beer bottles with slimmer necks, and the Martinellis ones
flare out too quickly so the metal part of the capper smashes into it.

when bottling I prefer flip top [grolsche type] (Sp*) keeping a good
stock of the top rubber seals .Otherwise small kegs are the way to go as
one can always fill up a growler for customers ..Andrew

Im pretty sure the martinelli's bottles are distributed by waterloo
packaging.
You should contact them and get the spec sheet. Sparkling anything is a
dangerous business- and every bottle has a pressure rating. The cap too
has a pressure rating and it all needs to match or you will be making
bombs.;)
I only mention it because from what I remember Martinelli's isnt that
sparkling.
If you do a champagne style carbonation and manage to get the right cap-
you could have a problem.

Subject: Chill Haze?

We are getting ready to bottle a dry bittersweet cider, but it has a
pretty determined chill haze. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion
for removing it.
The cider was pretty clear in the aging vessel at 58-60°F but when we
racked it into the brite tank and added finings (Hot Mix Sparklloid) at the
usual rate, and crashed it down to 6°C it got really hazy.
We've tried enzymes, and done finings trials with more Sparklloid,
bentonite, Ployclar, and Islinglass, all to no avail. Anyone have any ideas
on how to combat the haze? Thanks very much.
