mechanical help to lift the containers, or better, a pump to transfer
cider from one container to another."
What I have done in my small (120 gallons per year) hard cider
manufactory is to purchase a hydraulic lift table, which raises
carboys and other containers, empty or full, from a low shelf about
11" off the floor to a high one about 50" off the floor. Then I just
siphon.
Not ideal, but for me, it works.

I just bought a surplus Moyno stainless progressive cavity pump for $750
from
http://www.riada-equipment.com/Pumps-PD.htm
This is a terrific deal. New, the same pump is $6300
Fitting it with a 3hp motor added another $300.
This is the same pump Goodnature used to put in their pomace feed
system. Nat West tells me they are substituting a non Moyno pump now.
The vendor has a couple more in stock (K-633B and K-634).
I am picking it up from the freight terminal tomorrow but it will be a
while before I get it installed and tested.
This vendor has lots of other stainless progressive cavity and
centrifugal pumps.

Last weekend I had an amazing experience down at the Oregon Cider Summit. I
spoke to owners/brewers of all scales and sizes and what I came to realize
is that there is no blueprint to this process of starting up. Everyone
seems to have found their own way of doing it and luckily enough they are
all willing to share their knowledge for the good of the cider industry.
I have been fortunate enough to have stumbled upon this amazing community
of cider experts and if you've been paying attention to my questions on the
thread or answering them you might get the idea that I am trying to start
my cidery. Its going to be small, very small, around 400 gallons a month.
As much as I would like to do more I cant. This will be my second job on
top of my current one so my main goal isnt to produce a ton but to be as
efficient as possible to plant that stake in the hard cider industry.
Ive been carefully planning my process from fermentation to bottling but I
still feel like there are some holes. So Im reaching out to all of you
hoping I could find someone willing to guide me. I know email probably wont
be the best form of communication so if there is anyone that lives in
Washington (preferably Seattle/North Seattle) with extensive cidery
knowledge I would love to spend a few days to chat and learn. I will gladly
return the favor or pay for your time. I want to do this right. Not just
jump into it and see what happens.
Cheers,
Corey
