I am training my new cider orchard of 60 trees, 12 different varieties.
Today I noticed that at least 3 of the varieties (so far) have substantial
branching forming on the central leader. As long as the central leader
maintains sufficient vertical growth, is there some fundamental reason why
some of these lower branches cannot be used for a portion of the first
scaffold?
