Prep Time: 15 minutes | Cooking Time: 35-40 minutes | Total Time: 50-55 minutes | Servings: 8-10 slices
_____Ingredients:_____
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 large eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
1 1/2 cups whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Powdered sugar, for dusting
_____Directions:_____
Preheat the oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
In a medium bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
In a large mixing bowl, beat eggs and sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla extract and melted butter, mixing until well combined.
Gradually add the flour mixture to the egg mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until smooth.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and stir in chocolate chips until melted and smooth.
Carefully pour the chocolate custard mixture over the cake batter in the pan.
Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the cake is set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
