1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon lemon zest
1/2 cup whole milk
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice

Preheat the oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract and lemon zest.
Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.
Gently fold in the lemon juice until just combined.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it out evenly.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
