Someone gave me a program to generate the Mandelbrot set in ASCII
characters last year. When I locate the thing among the chaos of my filing
system, I'll post one for people who don't know what we're talking about.

Did Mr. Markowitz view the same tape as I did??? How did he manage to
make out what any of the "planes" were going so far as identifing the
lead plane as a 182 and the rest as 152's (and not 150's !!)????
He messages seemed to get more and more disjointed as he went on too.
As to the supposed absence of further HV UFO reports after the FAA
warned to pilots to stop - I didn't think there had been a cessation of
further reports?? He may be right in his criticism of the lack of
followup and/or good documentation of just exactly what JPL did and
didn't do in the way of analysis and written reports. The lack of
written reports from the "experts" seems common unfortunately with far
too many "facts" and analysis seemingly being mostly word of mouth and
off the cuff stuff.

"Gateway to Oblivion" about the Great Lakes ship disasters. Sort of a
Bermuda Triangle angle. If you see it tell me how much. I'll be hitting the
library next week. I finally got a UWM card, which is Univ. Of WI. Milwaukee.
They seem to have more books than the main library here. Actually probably
less fiction so more that I wish to use. Also has a computer search I can
dial in and check the card catalog. I'll punch up UFO and Paranormal next
week for the folks here at Paranet. Might bring some new titles to light.

I hope old Mort changed or the result will be Phil throwing a chair at you
and the crowd rushing the stage. (or visa versa?) The show was such a setup
by the end it was sick. He baited people and then threw them off without
allowing a fair debate. I didn't agree with most of the people he threw off,
but the point is that issues cannot be resolved by the tactics he used to
use.

I'll be looking forward to this one, considering what you have said, a fair
forum for debating non-mainstream topics can be informative as well as
entertaining. Go get em...

Since I am new to this group I must ask about Antonio Huneeus. Who
is he (sorry)? I would also like to know how articles in UFO Magazine
get there. I mean, are the articles submitted by anyone or are their
professional writers that are employed (no contracted) by UFO Magazine?
Also, what are the backgrounds of the writers (ie. scientists, fiction

Just wanting some clarification,

Once again it's Friday so I'm unable to check on Magnonia
for you. I will though and I'll let you know.

Also, you'll have to add $1.50 for shipping unless you
order at least one other book from the list below in which
case I'll ship for free. I really feel bad that I have to
charge $1.50 to ship a $6.95 book but the truth is that
shipping bags and/or boxes aren't cheap - not to mention
the postage. So if you see a book below that interests you,
you're better off putting the $1.50 towards it's purchase
price than to pay it in shipping.

What gets to me about those cattle mutilations is the great care to do
it so quickly and efficiently. If satanists are the cause, as is
implied at times, why do they take such great care to drain every drop
of blood, to remove organs without significant mutilation of the rest
of the body. A mutilation done by satanists would (in my opinion) be
a lot more messy and crude.

This cattle mutilation thing is very mystifying, indeed. I hope we
figure out the reason and cause soon. I'm curious, regarding your
"crude tools" post, do you have any idea or theory why someone would
use those tools and not normal tools?

The Ickleton Mandelbrot
-----------------------

A strange formation appeared the night of August 11/12 in a
wheatfield on a hill top 10 miles south of Cambridge, England.
The was reported to be a heart-shaped formation but on closer
observation found it to be far more than any "normal" crop
circle.

This new formation was in fact a Mandelbrot ! and was 100 yards
in length. A colleague of mine visited the site and confirmed
that the formation was in fact, as near as possible, a complete
Mandelbrot set. The large cartoid component was about 120ft across,
tangential to this was a circle of 47ft diameter and on top of this
again a 16ft circle. Attached to each side of the cardoid was three
smaller unequal circles, the size of each matching its partner on
the opposite side of the cartoid. Tiny circles also existed and
were attached to the outside of the centre ones and also on the
47ft circle. These tiny circles were as small as 16 inches and
were attached to the main body and mirrored about the central axis.
I have viewed a computer program that creates this Mandelbrot Set
and all circles and conponents were found to be exactly placed.

Presumed at first to be an elaborate hoax perpetrated by mathematic
students at Cambridge University this was denied by them. Each
circle was perfect and was swirled in a clockwise direction even
down to a single stalk in the centre of the cartoid. Aerial photographs
have been taken by my colleague but unfortunately on returning the
next day he found that the farmer had driven his combine harvester
straight through the formation destroying this fantastic work of art.
I understand that copies of these photos are on their way to
Benoit B. Mandelbrot, a research fellow at IBM Yorktown Heights, NY.

who from work with fractal geometry and the mathematical study of
forms having a fractional dimension has termed the Mandelbrot Set.
Fractal geometry is used in the study of chaos and also in the study

of growth patterns in the natural world.

For those of you that like the heavy stuff on Mandelbrot here it is:

From "Scientific American" August 1985..

"The Mandelbrot set broods in silent complexity at the centre of a
vast two-dimensional sheet of numbers called the complex plane.
When a certain operation is applied repeatedly to the numbers, the
ones outside the set flee to infinity and the numbers inside remain
to drift or dance about. Close to the boundary minutely choreographed
wanderings mark the onset of instability. Here is an infinite regress
of detail which astonishes us with its variety, its complexity and
its strange beauty."

This fantastic and unexplainable formation was feature with
a photograph in 26 August 1991 "Sunday Telegraph" and one can
see from the photograph that it really is very precise.
If anyone has a Mandelbrot computer graphics program I strongly
suggest that you run it and view the end result because it is so
similar to the Ickleton Mandelbrot its unreal.

Awful turnout.
You probable didn't see the first flyers. The word Alien was even spelled
wrong. Then that was corrected, but the prices were still absurd.
Some flyers were distributed, the conference was mentioned here a few
times, but apparently that was the extent of the advertising.
At Jim Greenen's insistence, they cut the prices in half, but failed to
spread that info.
The probably should have had it before the MUFON symposium, not just
after, and not after school started.
BTW, they were told most of this long and loud from the start. If you
can't pack the house by featuring Bill English, Ed Walters and Wendelle
Stevens, you're definitely doing something wrong.

Also note that the two small swirled circles found in Shoreline Park in Gulf
Breeze were found the day after a "skyquake." What they're calling a skyquake
is a 10-15 sec. very low rumble that rattles doors etc, but there's no seismic
trace, and no one acknowledges flying supersonic anywhere nearby.
I experienced two back in the early '80s when I lived about 200 miles east of
Pensacola. Rather eerie. The ground doesn't shake, but walls, doors, windows
etc. do.

Right again. Markowitz depended totally and *unquestioningly* on Klass, who
turns out to be completely wrong. I think this demonstrates the problem with
SOME skeptics - they don't realize that skepticism, in order to be useful,
MUST be self-referencing. Its not fair to question whether a UFO witness is
telling the truth if you're not willing to do the same for a debunker.

JD> JPL did and didn't do in the way of analysis and written reports.

JPL proper didn't do much, however a JPL scientist, Al Hibbs, seems to have
done a fairly in-depth analysis, the results of which were presented on one
of the tapes I sent Maury. The words Al used were, "in this case, no
explanation is given, and I see no reason to give one."
Maury objects to the
narrators translation, "in other words, it remains unexplained." Yet I don't
see how else it could be interpreted, do you?

Would you like me to send you an interview of Bob Oechsler conducted

Don't say "no" just because of the extra postage--I'll be happy to send
