This debate will go on for ever until:
a UFO lands for all to see
someone in goverment let the records loose
or we find it's all a big lie. (And I personally have seen to many
strange things to believe it's all a lie.)

I know for sure that weather balloons aren't metal (metallic cloth, yes, some)
and the one thing that is common at the NM sites is the metal that was found
and seen. Strange!!

From: vanth!jms@amix.commodore.com (Jim Shaffer)

The following is taken without permission from the July 1991 issue of
_Omni_, page 77. Has anyone heard anything else about this group or their
alleged severed hand?

Kim Mikules has an offer he thinks you can't refuse. AI-TRAD, the
organization he works for, will give $500,000 to anyone who can produce
evidence of E.T.'s.

Since the offer appeared ten months ago, 15 claims per day have poured
into the AI-TRAD mailbox. But only one, a severed hand, has
purportedly been authenticated as extraterrestrial, according to
Mikules. The payoff? The hand came in so recently, Mikules says, that
AI-TRAD hasn't had time to make good.

So are these guys for real? Mikules says he could drop some names of
backers, but that would be a violation of his agreement with AI-TRAD.

Walter Andrus, who heads up MUFON, isn't impressed. Over MUFON's
20-year history he has seen groups come and go. 'Take AI-TRAD with a
grain of salt,' he says. Don Berliner, of The Fund for UFO Research,
adds, 'It sounds like another nutty operation to me.'

Still, Mikules isn't worried. 'Quite frankly,' he says, "we have the
money and the power to do practically anything we want.'

RE: Star Trek Episode called "
First Contact"

Hi Greg,
Yes, I too saw that episode and was startled by the dialogue of
both sides. Remember, Commander Reiker was physically altered to
fit in with the planet undergoing observation.
It was an amazing episode and I wish I had hit the "
Record" button
on my VCR, but I started to watch it some 10-15 min. into the story.
Ask Don Ecker of "
ASK UFO" what he can find out about where the
writers got their ideas.
See ya,

On an interesting note: Keith Basterfield and Bob Bartholomew have released a
very interesting paper on "
Fantasy Prone Personality," and its possible
connection to the abduction phenomenon. I will be reprinting the article
here following securing permission from the publisher. It is very interesting
reading and worthy of discussion.

Subject: Further on Stackpole's Objections
Date: 17 Jul 91 18:13:00 GMT

I have been reviewing the book, and have some additional comments on Mike
Stackpole's concerns:

1) The press release of July 8th, confirming that Roswell Army Air Base was
in possession of a crashed disk, was not without careful consideration by the
Air Force personnel, including a reference to Washington D.C. The
consideration is that Marcel and an unidentified CIC (Counterintelligence
Agent) spent the entire day - July 7th - at the debris field picking up as
much debris as they could and placing it into Marcel's Buick and the CIC
agent's jeep. As dusk set in, they realized that there was just too much to
pick up and headed by for Roswell. Upon returning to Roswell, Marcel stopped
by his home and showed the material to his wife and son. Following this,
Marcel and the CIC agent briefed Col. Blanchard, who then ordered the staff
meeting to be moved from 9:00 A.M. to 7:30 A.M. During this time, Blanchard
notified his chain of command and allegedly received orders or authorization
to run the "
flying disk" story, which was released on July 8th by Walter Haut,
the PIO at Roswell. In the same breath, the CIC agent, accompanied by another
CIC agent, Lewis S. Rickett, returned with several MPs, the Provost Marshal,
Major Edwin D. Easley and began the tedious recovery procedure. During this
time, the two CIC agents hunted Brazel and asked him to accompany them to
Roswell, which Brazel agreed to do. This was confirmed by his son, Bill.
However, Bill related that they may have taken him forcibly if he had not
cooperated.

MY INTERPRETATION: What is interesting here in light of the objections raised
is that it is very unlikely that a mistake in identity of a downed weather
balloon occurred, and that several people initially involved in the inspection
of the material could have made a serious error in judgment. Based on the
testimony, it was presumed by Brazel to be a crashed disk. He carried this
story to the sheriff, who turned him over to Frank Joyce at the radio station.
The military was then alerted and told about the crashed disk. This
presumption could
have prejudiced them in the beginning, however once the recovery had been
commenced by qualified military personnel, this would have been immediately
dismissed had the debris been from a weather balloon. It was not, and in fact
was carried to full term by Blanchard and Washington, who subsequently ordered
the press release about the crashed disk. Blanchard and the others had the
opportunity to inspect the debris at the briefings and even after this,
continued to arrive at the conclusion that the material represented an unknown
substance. Another interesting note is the behavior of the CIC agent and the
plan that was initiated to grab Brazel while the debris was being collected.
Who was the CIC agent reporting to? Was he following orders of Blanchard?
There is a reference later, which I will cover when I get to it that the CIC
agent was not under the command of Blanchard, but possibly under the AFOSI at
Kirtland. Perhaps they were more prepared to handle this investigation and
took control of it through General Ramey once it was determined that they did
in fact have the remains of a crashed saucer.

It is also impossible to determine to what extent Brazel had been involved.
It is possible that Brazel saw more than he admitted publicly? After all, he
had several days to check out the ranch and may have come across the rest of
the material containing bodies or the rest of the craft. What made Brazel
arrive at the crashed flying saucer conclusion? This man appeared to be
poorly educated, yet he was sure it was a crashed disk. How would he have
been able to make such a determination based upon the debris found in the
field intially, assuming that the material didn't represent more than pieces?
Could Brazel have seen much more?

Finally, there were references to the Air Force having planes on standby over
during the week of the fourth of July in answer to the numerous reports
coming. This may or may not have anything to do with Roswell directly,
however it is interesting.

Hi Linda. Yes, I've been scribbling out my article on building the Philly
Experiment in your basement. Still awaiting submissions from some others.

Things here in the east have been abysmal. Very few jobs hereabouts, and my
last contract ended almost three months ago. So I've been keeping the phone
bills down & not BBSing much, even on my own system. Still, I've rebuilt a
menu system that's much clearer and added file bases for the ParaNet files,
and I've added a 9600 bps CompuCom modem. Always puttering.

Thanks for your thoughts! Any type at you soon.

Best,

You know Mike I just had a crazy thought, which may be because I have a
cold. (or it could be the fine Wisconsin Cheese and Milwaukee Beer?) If PK
were ever to do a flip and write a pro-ufo book, or even close to that, he is
probably one of the most knowledgable people on the subject. He does better
research, has been involved for quite a few years, and has eliminated most of
the hoaxes. Bet it would sell millions of copys. (hey I said this was a
strange thought) The only part that would be hard to do is get him to write
about the best unexplained cases. In other words, he says this was swamp gas,
and that was seagulls, and the other was a skyhook. OK fine, what about the
ones he has not reasonable explinations? Interesting. I really do have a
whopper of a summer cold and my head is fuzzy just like my throat.

BTW I dyed that cat green. So it was real. 8*)

I can't believe you even mention what Ed did as a teenager in the
same sentence with what happened 30 years later. When I was 11, I
went out joy riding in a stolen car, does that ban me the rest of my
life as a photograph hoaxer? Now if you told me that Ed is a
accomplished photographer and has a extensive back ground in that
field then I would say that you might have just cause for concern.
As far as not telling the public everything about Ed's past, if
it doesn't pertain to the case, then its none of our bbusines. Thyer
is a lot more to Ed's case then most people know and you or I won't
know until Ed decides to tell us. And if people keep bring up his
past like you seem to like to do, we will probably never know what
really happen the first and the last time he encountered the craft.
This was left out of his book for a reason and I think because they
thought that the public wasn't ready for it. And from what I've been
reading on the echos, I think Ed and MUFON has made a wise choice.
