From: JBB@WATSON.acc.Virginia.EDU

Sheldon Wernikoff writes (Date: 1 Jun 91 13:11:00 GMT)

+ On Friday, 05-31-91, I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr.
+Robert Nathan at JPL in regards to the continuing saga of the Gulf
+Breeze photos. Nathan has analyzed several original negatives,
+utilizing microscopy, computer digitization and image enhancement,
+along with multiple density printing to arrive at the following
+conclusion: He has no definitive proof of a hoax, but the data are
+consistent with images from double exposures. Nathan does not feel
+that the GB images are from real UFO's.
+ When asked why he felt the GB photo controversy continues to
+this day, Nathan replied in one word 'Money'. In my (SW) opinion,
+that is one of the major reasons Dr. Bruce Maccabee continues to
+defend the authenticity of the photos. He receives a fee for each
+conference or symposium he attends.

In the interest of fairness to Dr. Maccabee, both he and I were in
attendance at a recent international conference of the Society for
Scientific Exploration (SSE) held on May 23 thru 25, 1991 here at
the University of Virginia. After reading Mr. Wernikoff's post to
PARANET, I contacted Dr. Lawerence Fredrick of the Astronomy Depart-
ment at UVa and Treasurer of the SSE to inquire about policy regard-
ing remuneration of those who present papers at SSE conferences. Dr.
Fredrick told me that SSE does not offer remuneration to those who
present papers at their conferences. He stated emphatically that Dr.
Maccabee did NOT receive payment of any sort for either his formal
presentation on Saturday, May 25 or his informal presentation during
the evening of May 23.

Considering the serious nature of Mr. Wernikoff's charges, I feel he
should offer in this forum an immediate public apology to Dr. Bruce
Maccabee.

I agree. My mother's hypnosis is in no way admissable in court. She
would have to take many courses in Law and proper proceedures indeed before
she could do anything legal-like with it. She basically uses it for her
patients only and does not gaurantee it's results - Self healing and
enlightenment only.
Hmm, I guess it is key for the hypnotist to forget himself while
conducting a hypnotic regression and not let any of his personal biases or
beliefs get in the way. He/she must be an impartial guide allowing the
patient to choose his own path. I guess the only way to test the
credibility of the hypnotic session is to have it observed to make sure
there was no 'leading' or 'suggesting'.

Ah! I've been waiting for that! :) Heh, well let's see... I was born
in Los Angeles in July of 1971. My parents, deciding to keep my away from
the large city and growing smog, moved to Santa Barbara, California in 1973
where I have lived ever since.
We moved around a bit in SB at intermittent stages of my life but kept
fairly stable places of residence. We have had our fair share of adventure
in this ever-growing quiet little town, ranging from our house burning down
durring the late '70s fire which destroyed many houses to simple house
robery.
Durring my later stages of schooling (Jr. High - High School) I became
interested in computers, and with a old ATARI 800 with a 300 baud modem on
loan from a friend, made my enterance into the local Telecomm world. I
have made most of my local friends through the local bulletin boards and am
quite happy with them all. They are all wonderful individuals whom I value
most highly.
I started my own BBS about a year ago and it didn't have much of a theme.
It was mostly just a place to call and leave messages of no real value. I
have allways been interested in Sci/Fi and space so when one of my friends
invited me over to his house to hear a man talk about UFOs, I was quick to
say 'yes!'. The man mostly talked of Govt. Conspiracy and UFO coverups but
I came away with an avid interest and a list of books to get me started.
I changed my BBS' theme to UFOlogy/Paranormal Phenomena and got the
number from a friend of a long distance BBS which had UFO text files and the
like. When I called that system, I saw the name ParaNet somewhere on-line
and was curious as to what exactly ParaNet was. This same friend returned
from a trip to L.A. with a copy of UFO Magazine which had an add for
"ParaNet! The world's largest UFO computer network!" inside. I promptly
got in touch with Michael Corbin at ParaNet ALPHA and inquired as to
affiliation.
Currently I am 19 years old (will be 20 July 11th) and am attending Santa
Barbara City College (my first year).

As for my personal interests and hobbies:

I love gaming - Role Playing Games and Strategy games most of all. My
mountain bike, being my primary source of transportation and exercise, has
also become a very pleasurable hobby for me. I play Tennis and Raquetball
as well as practicing swordsmanship in the Society for Creative Anachronism.
I am very much a fan of the fuedal Japanese culture - Samurai era - and
collect many traditional Japanese items and study the culture (I am even
signed up for a Japanese language class in the Fall). I enjoy reading and
seeing exciting movies at home or in the theaters.
Well, that about summs it up. If you have any questions, please feel
free to ask.

This is a test. This is only a test.

For the next sixty seconds, this node will conduct a test of the
Non-Emergency Qecho Mail Processor sans the -C parameter, in order to
determine whether Crash Mail to 104/422 can be disabled. The programmers in
your area, in voluntary cooperation with FIDONet, ParaNet, and other
authorities, have developed this test in order to keep Long Distance charges
down for ne'er-do-wells such as myself. Had this been an actual emergency,
the 7062nd Airborne Intelligence Gathering Squadron would have shut down
your node, and you would have been instructed to report to the nearest alien
relocation center.

This concludes this test. Thank you for your attention, and have a nice day.

Subject: INFO REQUEST - Bennington AFB UFO, 1975
Date: 5 Jun 91 00:14:06 GMT

From: Tom Betz <upaya!tbetz>

A couple years ago on the old Paranet Alpha I read a text file on the
subject of a UFO, if I recall correctly, at Bennington AFB in
Texas.

In that report, written by a former airman, was something to the
effect that after the UFO hovered over the airfield, the
defensive missile emplacements along the runways were discovered
to have been disabled by forces unknown.

A friend visiting one of my housemates told me last night that in
1975, he happened upon a crowd of witnesses to a UFO at a service
station near Bennington, just after it had left, and he recounted
the sheer terror of their reactions to it. He had not heard any
more about the story, as the Air Force had, of course, denied
that anything happened.

I would be greatly indebted to anyone who could find that file
and either post it to the list or email it to me at the address
below, so I can share it with this fellow.

Thanks.

Mr. Burch,

In response to your suggestion that I offer Dr. Maccabee an
immediate public apology, I would like to take this opportunity to
state the following:

Apparently, in quoting my post out of context, you have
misinterpreted my opinion. My reference to renumeration was meant
to be specific to ufology conferences (see message #2998),not the
international conference of the Society for Scientific Exploration
(SSE) that you mention.

If my intended meaning was unclear, I do sincerely apologize
for that. However, I do maintain my opinion that Dr. Maccabee is
involved in Gulf Breeze at least partially for the continuing
monetary compensation he receives. If he is sincerely concerned
about resolving this quagmire, why does he not provide Dr. Nathan
with the negatives he has requested?

Sincerely,

Sheldon Wernikoff

To the contrary, the AP report on the presentation by "Omnec
Onec"
, quoted her assertions about the climate on Venus, which
she described as being like one of the many desert areas here on
earth. She went on to point out that we would be amazed to find
out how adaptable the human body would be to such an environment.
The excuse/explanation that the name "Venus" as used in the 50's
& 60's contactee cases is really a reference to "Venus in another
dimension"
started popping up in various Wendelle Stevens books
when we started to learn more about the real planet. (i.e. in
_Koldas_ "Venus" was actually the name of an other-dimensional
counterpart for *Earth*. Small Cosmos, eh?) I should have known
that Wendelle was getting us ready for his own book on the
Adamski case!

What I'm wondering about is whether entities from an "etheric
plane"
would need a planetary environment or physical bodies.

Sorry if you were bothered by my message about the aforementioned
article. I was stating my oppinion of the situation, which may have been a
little (well, ok, maybe more then a little) sarcastic. Seeing as how the
article came from a 'read-it-while-you-wait-in-line-at-the-grocery-store"
type publication, I was not giving it that much credit. These are the type
of periodicles which boast such outrageous headlines as, "
Watch out! There
is a three-headed monkey behind you!" in very bold, large letters on the
covers. The pictures included with the article seemed to be obvious fakes
to me. The poses of the 'being' and president in the picture were unreal.
I thought I could see what looked to me like 'superimposure' marks on the
President's head over the rest of the body. Maybe these articles in such
suspicious publications are based on some bit of truth but the hard part is
finding that inkling of truth inside the gross exageration. I was jumping
to conclusions, yes, but seeing as how the searching for the truth in an
article of this type is a very fruitless search, we might as well get a
*little* humor out of it, if nothing else. Don't you agree?

I was watching it with a friend of mine who is familiar with
Streiber's book, _Cummunion_ and he commented durring the film that the last
scene with the ET's, when Streiber returns to his wilderness home and enters
the alien ship on his own accord, was not, as far as he could remember, in
the book. This was a very odd scene, which I am not completely sure I
understood. Streiber sees himself as a magician and tells himself, in a
rather riddle-like manner that there is more to the ET's that he is not
allowed to know. One of the ET's removes a bottem portion of his face to
show a rather grisley, horrific mouth and surrounding face area beneath.
Streiber then says, "
No, I don't believe that's it. This is like a Chinese
box. You open it and there is another box inside and another box inside
that. You are a Chinese box" or somthing to that effect and the Magician
Streiber image confirms this. Do you have any theories as to what this
scene intoned? I should watch it again.

That's too bad. I would really like to see this story told in a
cinemagraphic sense. I hope they complete this project. Who knows, with
UFOlogy so popular these days, there certainly is margin for profit in a
movie of this type. Incentive for any movie industry, I'd think.
Hopkins' mentions in his book that there was a movie made about the
Betty and Barney Hill abduction case, which he states, "
Can be seen as a
sci/fi rerun on most late night television stations" or somthing to that
effect (not wanting to misquote Budd). Have you seen this film?

The former, yes, the latter I've never heard of. Robertson Panel information

Dear David,
Great to hear from you again! I tried calling your board yesterday
but was unable to get thru - just wanted to see if you were there and
able to chat. I even dialed the 2nd time with an access code (AT&T I
think it was) and still an operator voice told me to hang up and dial
again. Any ideas what I should do?
I think Jim Speiser would be the perfect person to organize a
Western States pow-wow. After all, he's had the experience...... That
is a great idea, however, and we should have it someplace cool, and
that isn't Phoenix right at the moment!
I met Kathie Davis last summer at the MUFON conference in
Pensacola, Fla. One of the organizers held a short social for Kathie
and invited "
Ladies Only." And I was lucky enough to be invited.
It would be very beneficial for all of us if you talked to your
mother about hypnosis, then posted your findings on the board for all
of us. There is so much to learn. (Why wouldn't your friend want to
know more about the light that spoke to him???)

Best regards,

George Earley's interview with Dr. Jacques Vallee (ParaNet
file number 01154) was for the most part accurate in describing the
current state of affairs in contemporary ufological circles.

However, I must disagree with a statement Dr. Valle made in
regard to the beliefs and convictions of Isaac Asimov and Carl
Sagan.

Dr. Vallee stated (in considering Sagan's and Asimov's
knowledge of the UFO phenomenon) that "
...They've < Sagan and
Asimov > never taken time to study the cases themselves. All they
know about it is what they read in the National Enquirer..."

I must admit that I too don't agree with everything that Sagan
and Asimov say, but do you seriously believe that these two
respected men glean their data from the tabloids?

As the file header states, "
...we must begin to police our own
backyard...", so let's get our act together folks!
