Would a good argument to use to someone espousing views like Conte be this? --
The relationship of supermarket-tabloid UFO and alien stories to the real
SETI project and the actual possibility of extraterrestrials is equivalent
to the relationship between the 'Rambo' movies and the Department of
Defense and the actual needs of the country for military strength.
You don't let the existence of 'Rambo' movies and silly war-story books
or comics detract from the evaluation of the actual need for a defense
establishment; equally so, you shouldn't let the existence of UFO-related
wild tales or nonsense, or the fact that some deluded people believe they are
in mental or physical communication with beings from other planets, affect a
sober and rational evaluation of the possibility of extraterrestrial
intelligent life.
You are confusing obvious fiction with possible reality.

It sounds like few of you on this mailing list have heard of the
remote viewing experiments that have been performed. Some literature
concerning this is:

I have spoken with a number of authors and contributors to this field
and have participated in a remote viewing experiment.
No remote viewing experiments have shown any limitations with respect to
time or space. The other cases of this that might be considered just
as wild as seeing a flying saucer are e.g. the precognitive remote viewing
experiments and the (late 1800 or early 1900s)
experiments of Leadbeater and Besant where they
apparently remote-viewed at the subatomic level, describing many
aspects of atomic structure that we now know to be true.
Since SRI is both closely connected with the government
and much of the original research went on there, the rumor appears
to be plausable.

I don't think all the evidence is in on Ricky White's claims. There
seem to be a number of points that he hits on that make sense when
looking at the event as a whole.
Here is a piece of logic that you might find interesting. According to
the official autopsy report on the President's body here is what
happened. A bullet struck the President about in the middle of his
back. The bullet then took a 90 degree angle turn up and for some
reason took another 90 degree angle turn this time heading for the
front of the President's body finally exiting from the throat area.
A second bullet wound was found on the back of his skull. The autopsy
doctors presumed that the massive wound to the front of his skull was
the exit wound.
The bullet that entered the President's back and exiting the throat was
the same one that wounded then Governor Connaly. Remember that this
bullet had already gone through the President's body making 90 degree
angle turns. After exiting the President's throat, the bullet makes a
turn of about 30 degrees downward and strikes Connaly in the wrist. The
bullet passes through the wrist and enters the Governor's thigh. Later
this bullet falls out of the wound and comes to rest upon the gurney
which carried the Governor into the emergency room. The bullet was in
near pristine condition.
By all of this, the Warren Commission concluded that only two shots were
fired. They were fired from the same weapon. And only one person was
involved--Oswald. Now, I'd like to know what bullets he was using that
would allow for such action (two 90 degree angle turns and a 30 degree
angle turn). Further, since the bullet that was discovered was merely a
jacketted lead bullet, why wasn't it deformed from impacting upon bones
in the President and the Governor? Does anyone else find this odd?
One more point. The claim that they have proven that Oswald could have
carried out the assassination with the Italian Mannlicher is also
suspect. The WC asked the 'experts' to test this out. So a track was
set up and a stand was built to match the height that Oswald would have
been at in the Book Depository. After some practice, the expert
riflemen were able to hit the moving target. However, none of them were
under the stress of making an actual hit. Plus, it took them several
days to get good enough to hit the target when it was stationary, and
several more days to make the first hit on the moving target. And these
were men who practice with weapons all the time.
Now consider Oswald up there is the depository window. He is sweating
from nervousness. Hitting a target is always a time of high stress--no
matter how much training you've done. Where do you suppose that he
practiced to make such a hit? Did he have the funds to set up a mock-up
of the area out in the country somewhere? From what is known, at best
Oswald could only have fired at targets that were stationary. He
certainly didn't have the funds to set up a mock-up of the area complete
with a car and dummies. And he evidently didin't do that much practice.
Now, Don Ecker can correct me if I'm wrong, but even the best need to
practice on a regular basis to stay reasonably good with their weapons.
But we are supposed to believe that Oswald, with little practice and
under great stress, did what even the experts had trouble doing.
Don, you still got that piece of property for sale? I've still got
ocean front property in Arizona. Maybe we can make a sale if there are
people who really do believe that Oswald made that hit. <GRIN>
There are other things that have not been answered yet. If anyone wants
to talk about them, let me know. I realize that this net is supposed to
be for the paranormal and UFOs, but we are also dealing with government
cover-ups. The assassination of President Kennedy is one of the biggest
cover-ups of all times.

It's very simple for a FMJ bullet to leave lead fragments in tissue. It
simply fragments on impact. A FMJ bullet is not to be confused with
armour piercing, much different assembly. I've used modern design FMJ
that will separate on impact with most targets because of sloppy
construction. FMJ design is for penetration granted, but a "cheap"
bullet will separate quickly. As a matter of fact, the best design
would separate at the best time, ie; after initial penetration of outer
armour and in vital areas. Ballistics technology has come a long way in
the last twenty five years. I would assume the FMJ bullets of the
1960's are not as reliable as they are today, as with any other bullet.
The answer to you question would be if they found any jacket material
near the entry wound. A separated FMJ bullet would leave copper
fragments near the surface of the entry wound.

A book you should read is _Best_Evidence_, by David Lifton. A new edition
in trade paperback was recently released with autopsy photos (oooooo) and
can sometimes be found packaged with a videotape.
An interesting thing about the Zapruder film is that when stills were first
published in LIFE, two of the frames were printed in the wrong order and
their appearance in that wrong order was used to reassure readers that
there was a lone assassin firing from the rear.

WASHINGTON -- Six U.S. soldiers, who apparently deserted
sensitive intelligence posts in West Germany, may have
believed they were chosen to greet alien spaceships and
lead humanity to a science fiction-style heaven,
according to friends and acquaintances.
The group has puzzled authorities since a note was found
in their quarters that contained Biblical referenced and
the words 'End of the World.'
Mention of a possible 'End of the World' cult at a
Pentagon briefing Tuesday has spawned a frenzy of media
speculation.
Now, after being detained at Gulf Breeze, Fla. -- the
site of a rash of recent UFO sightings -- the five men
and one woman are being held in isolation and debriefed
by the Army at Fort Benning, Ga.
'They believe that Jesus is an astronaut,' said one man
who sold them a van.
The group member, in fact, believed in an offshoot
Christian belief called the 'rapture,' said Stan Johnson,
a friend of the apparent group leader. He described it a
a 'combination of science fiction and fundamentalist
Baptist beliefs.'
Rapture is the second coming of Jesus Christ, in which he
returns to Earth to take the believers with him and the
rest of Earth would be destroyed. This group, though,
believed Jesus was an alien and would return in a
spaceship for the chosen.
'How can I phrase this: Jesus Christ drives a spaceship,'
Johnson said.
'They were apparently convinced that the aliens had
chosen them as the chosen few to be on hand when they
reclaimed the Earth,' he said.
While the military is investigating the incident with
apparent intensity, there has been no evidence that
national security was compromised.
'This does not appear to be an espionage case,' said a
Pentagon spokesman.
The bizarre chain of events began in late May or early
June when Johnson, a Bybee, Tenn., photographer, got a
cal from his longtime friend Kenneth G. Beason, 26, from
Augsburg, West Germany, where he was stationed.
Johnson said he had met Beason a few years ago when he'd
asked to have some spaceship models photographed. They
became friends and often talked of science fiction and
philosophy.
'Other than an interest in science fiction, he's
perfectly normal,' Johnson said. 'Basically what has
happened is his imagination has interwoven with reality.'
Johnson said he met Beason and another soldier, Michael
J. Hueckstaedt, 19, at the Knoxville airport and helped
them buy a used Volkswagen van on July 7.
Bill Grant, a neighbor, sold them the van for $800, but
now, 'I'd give them $1,600 just not to have my name on
it,' he said.
The two soldiers planned to meet the other group members
in Chattanooga, Tenn., then drive to meet the first
spaceship landing at Gulf Breeze on Aug. 6, then continue
on to New Mexico, where 'something else was going to
happen,' Johnson said.
The spaceship's arrival would be heralded by war in
Lebanon and a shakeup of the U.S. military, Johnson said
he was told.
The group's plan was based on psychic messages being
received by another group member they identified as
'Vance,' Johnson said.
But they denied they were AWOL, or absent without leave,
Johnson said, and they became 'almost belligerent' when
he tried to dissuade them from the trip.
The six were detained early Saturday, after Gulf Breeze
police stopped their van. They put the driver's name
through a national crime computer, and he turned up AWOL,
Police Capt. Kenneth Hicks said.
Gulf Breeze has recently been the focus of national
interest by believers in UFOs since the publication of a
book called 'The Gulf Breeze Sightings.'

GULF BREEZE, Fla. (AP) -- Six soldiers who disappeared from a classified
intelligence unit in West Germany and believed to be members of a mysterious
group called 'The End of the World' have been caught in Florida.
The five men and one woman, caught over the weekend in this Florida Panhandle
city, were being held at Fort Benning, Ga., pending a counterintelligence
investigation.
However, Bob Hall, a spokesman for Defense Secretary Dick Cheney, said the
counterintelligence investigation is being conducted as a matter of routine
because the soldiers had access to classified information.
'The Army says this does not appear to be an espionage case,' said Hall.
Maj. Joe Padilla, an Army spokesman at the Pentagon, said he had no
information about 'The End of the World' group except that the six are
apparently members. He could not say if it has any significance in the
investigation, or how and when the Army came to know of their affiliation.
'I've heard of a lot of cults but this is a new wrinkle,' said Gulf Breeze
police Chief Jerry Brown.
Dallas Blanchard, a sociology professor and cult expert at the University of
West Florida in nearby Pensacola, said he hadn't heard of the group.
All six soldiers were Army intelligence specialists assigned to the 701st
Military Intelligence Brigade at Augsburg, West Germany, Padilla said. He
wouldn't say exactly what jobs they performed but that their training was in
analyzing foreign communications.
The Army hasn't filed charges against the six soldiers, Padilla said.
He said an absent-without-authorization allegation could encompass either
absent without leave or the more serious charge of desertion.
The disappearance came to the attention of military authorities on July 9,
Hall said. Brown said that is the date they arrived in Gulf Breeze.
Hall and Padilla said they didn't know how the six got to Florida from
Germany.
The absent soldiers had been staying with two Gulf Breeze women, Brown said.
One of the women had met one of the male soldiers last year in Gulf Breeze and
struck up a friendship. He called her and asked if the group could stay with
them for a few days, Brown said.
They were caught after one of the men was stopped by a police officer Friday
night because the taillights on the van he was driving weren't working, Brown
said.
The man had no driver's license and warrants showed he had been listed on
Thursday as wanted for desertion from the Army, the chief said.
After officers called security police at the Pensacola Naval Air Station to
pick up the man, the Navy called back to say he was traveling with five other
soldiers also wanted for desertion or being absent without leave, Brown said.
Soon after, representatives of the FBI, the CIA and the National Security
Agency called his department as well, Brown said.

Frank, I agree with your message, and thats the whole point.
Commission exhibit #399 is NOT fragmented, it's commonly described
as 'pristine', the copper jacket is totally intact, with no
breaches. If you're interested, I can provide weights (in grains)
of the magic bullet and Connelly lead fragments. I can't show you
a picture, on this medium yet, but can provide references, with
photographs...............Steve
