I don't mean to imply to know what I'm talking about here, so please bear with
me.

Since the Earth has magnetic poles would I be correct in assuming that there
would be a magnetic grid encircling the Earth? If so, would it also be correct
to assume that there would be magnetic lines which would be stronger or
concentrated in certain areas and weaker in other areas, or is it more like a
field which would be similiar to an outer shell surrounding the Earth?

If there are magnetic lines or a grid, does anyone know if or where I could
get a map depicting the locations of these magnetic lines?

Oh, goody, we're back online with InterNet? Both ways, I hope?

John, I've had a temporary setback on the U of N thing. Dan Wright got back to
me and told me he was the wrong man, that I should get in touch with Barry
Greenwood, which I shall do. I'm a bit surprised, as I'd heard from a good
source that Dan had all the correspondence on the affair.

As to the FBI challenge, that was Hopkins' point, that the FBI was not in a
position to do anything either way, since there is no evidence either for a
real abduction or a hoax report. Consequently, there wasn't much point to
Klass' challenge. That seems, however, to be a favorite tactic of Klass.
Magicians call it misdirection.

I'll get back to you as soon as I get more info on the U of N thing.

Hoping you're still around to get this,

A couple of last minute changes to the National UFO Conference line-up:

Bill Trantham and Bonnie Tynes have been scratched.

Bob Reid has been replaced by Rex and Carol Salisberry, who will use some of
Reid's slides and describe Gulf Breeze sightings other than those by Ed
Walters.

Contactee Howard Menger and world-famous psychic investigator Berthold
Schwarz have been added.

Also added are two New Age ladies from Florida named Sue Wallace and Carol
Lynn Grant, plus "ufologist" (Moseley's word, not mine) Pat Diegel from
Sedona, AZ - "The New Age capital of the Southwest"

Dr. Frank the Strange Crank will be on hand as well.

We are still finagling press passes. We'll get back to ya.

For some reason or other, Tucson is having its share of UFO shindigs lately.
Last month it was Alan Benz's Foundation for UFO Research sponsoring a bunch
of people I never heard of at an all day symposium. Last night, ufologist
Robert Hastings spoke to a Tucson crowd (I'm waiting on a report from Marge
Christensen and/or Jim McGaha - be interesting to compare the two accounts -
Christensen is with MUFON and McGaha is with CSICOP). And Friday, a gent named
Dr. Walter Walker will be addressing the AIAA dinner on the subject of UFO
evidence. Apparently Dr. Walker was a heavyweight with APRO, with UFO
credentials as long as your arm, but he's another one I've never heard of. Has
anyone else? I'm going to try to make that one. From his abstract, he sounds
highly credible.

Incidentally, Knapp is the winner of the first annual Donald E. Keyhoe
Memorial Award for UFO Journalism, which is handed out by the Fund for UFO
Research. He won for his excellent "UFOs: The Best Evidence", his first
special which aired last November. I couldn't agree more with the award,

indication that he's changed his tune on that case, Mike?

establish their presence any more than any of the other evidence that's been

James:

Its not just Belgium and New York. The triangle/arrowhead/boomerang shape is
becoming the most ubiquitous planform reported. Some famous sightings include
Wytheville, VA; Texarkana, AR; Fyffe, AL; and Morenci, AZ. And now there seems
to be a whole wave of them in the Southeast US - 46 sightings between November
and March. Dan Wright says, "No way this is the B-2."

Paul:

As far as I know, a dipolar magnet does not create a grid, but rather
lines of flux, resembling a segment of an ellipse, flowing in one direction
(South to North, right gang?)

There was a theory put forth some time ago by a French Ufologist named Aimee
Michel, that there IS some kind of magnetic grid surrounding the earth ("UFOs
and the Straight Line Theory"
), but I never read the book and consequently
can't really comment. It was based on his observation that UFO sightings tend
to cluster around certain parallels. I have never noticed this clustering, and
I tend to think his data selection was probably biased. (There I go,
commenting when I haven't read it!)

Subject: UFO's and the CIA
Date: 3 May 90 04:57:00 GMT

Hello everyone,
(Glad to see the Unix feed is back..alright!)

I've read the very first book on the CIA ever..it's a huge
opus written by Bob Woodward called "VEIL..The Secret Wars of
the CIA 1981-1987"
(Simon and Schuster). It's mostly a book
written about Director Bill Casey and his involvement and chronology
with the CIA during the aforementioned years.

I found it to be a fascinating book and would highly recommend it to
all.

During the course of reading the book I was struck with how vulnerable
the CIA is to alot of different influences and happennings (according
to Woodward). Vulnerable as in reliance on the overwhelming amounts
of data pouring in from the NSA feeds all over the world and the small
amount of people that are actually summarizing all that information.

The CIA had/has been caught with their pants down more than a few
times. Mostly,Bill Casey valued the HUMAN resources of information
as in contacts, alliances and actually "being there" as opposed to
"listening in" with some very sophisticated electronic equipment.

There were numerous mentions of the covert wars being waged on behalf
of the CIA. And of course, the "secret" contra war in Nicaraugua was
most of the book, what with all the skimishes Casey got into with the
senators on the Hill (Goldwater,Moynihan) and the infamous mining
of the Nicarauguan harbor, etc and all the funding problems and the
Bolan Admendment,etc...

All of this is to say...that I was dumbfounded to learn that the
CIA is actually under some very tight limitations as to what it can and
CANNOT do as far as covert or overt work is concerned. The CIA
CANNOT and IS PROHIBITED from assassinations since the days of
Stansfield Turner and the former President Carter had clamped down
prettttty tight on what the CIA could do..DCO Casey had actually
brought the morale of the CIA up quite a bit since those days.

I also learned that the CIA is pretty much responsible for OUTSIDE
the USA..and according to Woodward's book..the NSA/FBI is responsible
for what happens INSIDE the USA..they do often collaborate together
on alot of things.

* I'm just very curious as to WHAT agenncy would actually control
the INFO on crashed disks..human and cattle mutilations and
ABDUCTIONS...it doesn't seem to fit the profile of the CIA itself.

Would the NSA be involved?

Are there DEEPER levels of secret govt than the NSA?

Does the NSA have control over the FBI when it comes to UFO's?

WHY IS THERE NO MENTION OF THE NSA AS REGARDS TO THE SENATE
SELECT COMMITEES ON INTELLIGENCE?

WHO controls the activities of the NSA?

The CIA is watched like a hawk..but it doesn't appear to me that ANY
attention is paid to the NSA.

Comments are invited,thanks.

One of the other sysops was working on just that thing a couple
of months ago. I can't remember who it was, though. I will
check my notes.

This sysop told me that there were definitely grid lines and
places where conditions were ideal for various things.

Could you go into more detail as to your interest? Maybe someone
here could go into this subject.

Knapp has capitalized on this in his reporting. He makes mention
of the fact that his first special was an award-winning special,
but he does not go into details as to who awarded him. Kinda
reminds me of Linda Moulton Howe's award-winning 'Strange
Harvest,' although hers was an Emmy, right?

As to Meier, I cannot answer that yet.

Hi!
A couple of weeks ago, there was a problem with the net, & I believe
that a post I made never got out, so I am reposting it. My apologies if you've
seen this before.

*----*

The 3* interview has me curious, & I have some questions. Frequently, I see
references made to Cooper, Lear, et al. Also, I am aware of some older
articles (past year, or so):

- Operation Majority by M.W. Cooper

- Origin & meaning of KRLL, etc. by M.W. Cooper

- Human Mutilation Factor by D. Ecker

- A Strange Harvest Continues by L.M. Howe

- Project Grudge / Aquarius by MAJI (Cooper?)

- CUFON Freedom of Information Act Document Files

- etc., etc.

I would be interested in reading these, & similar, related articles, checking
them out for myself, & making my own conclusions. Unfortunantly, these
documents are difficult to find.

So, does there exist a way to access these materials? Presumbably they've
been archived somewhere; is there a LISTSERV address, or an FTP node available?
Or, I would have no problem dialing into a BBS to download such material; but
such sites are rather difficult to find, which brings up my last question(s).

In the March/April (Volume 5, Number 2) issue of "UFO", there is in the back
a reference to 2 BBSs:

- ParaNet Information Service: 303/232-6115 (9600-8-N-1)
(this number has been disconnected, or is no longer in service)

- UFONET Computer Information Service: 602/526-8025
(this number has been disconnected, or is no longer in service)

Can someone share with me the number of a board that I can call [besides
Cooper's ParaNOID-BBS]? If all else fails, could someone just Email me a
copy of some of the dox I refered to? Thanks ahead of time, -Robert

Chronocentricity
-+ From: logajan@ns.network.com (John Logajan)

-+ EVERYTHING has to be explained in the terms of the known --
-+ explaining in terms of the unknown is not explaining at all!
-+ Chronocentricity by definition, then, encompasses every explanation.

Wait a minute, John. Chronocentricity does *not* mean "explanations in
terms of the known."
(Obviously, we can only explain in known terms!)
What chronocentricity actually refers to is the belief that our
understandings *will never evolve* beyond those presently known.

-+ Although from a historical sense it might be more intuitive to say
-+ that the computer is mind-like, reciprocity in this case allows the
-+ correct conclusion that the mind is computer-like.

Neither assertion is objecively "correct." Both are reflections of
current metaphor, which reflect some (but not all) current beliefs
about the nature of the mind, in which only the mind's mechanistic
aspects are recognized.

-+ -- so apply Occam's razor.

Occam's razor is a tool, and cuts whichever way the user points it.
The buck stops with the user, not with the tool. What the "simplest"
explanation is, is often a subjective matter, depending on one's
views, how well informed one may be, what subculture one lives in,
etc. Things which may be ridiculous, taboo, nonexistent, etc., in one
subculture may be everyday ho-hum in another.

Subject: UFOs Abound
Date: 4 May 90 17:39:00 GMT

Are we on the event horizon of a startling revelation about the
reality of UFOs from an official standpoint?

Some food for thought...

George Knapp has been broadcasting his sequel to the November
"UFOs: The Best Evidence,". This broadcast offers some further
information regarding Lazar and additional investigative findings
concerning Lazar's background and involvement in prostitution in
Nevada. Nonetheless, the series seems to be offering the same
quality of treatment as previous. Knapp comments that perhaps we
are approaching a "planned release" of information to be
forthcoming from our government. It has been suggested that
Lazar was a "pawn" in this process to bring the public's focus on
UFOs to lay the groundwork for a future release of information
going back to Roswell and the 40s.

Today, Inside Reporter, a documentary news-type program will air
a UFO special addressing just the sort of issue concerning the
alleged "planned release" of information from the government.

All the while KNBC-TV in Los Angeles has been running a UFO
special on Roswell nightly during the news.

Is this simply the result of May's Sweeps Ratings or is there a
more serious explanation as to why all of a sudden the media is
giving this subject serious attention?

Keep your ears and eyes alert.
