I'm following with some interest the current Gasoline Alley
comic strip. To my knowledge, the current UFO sighting theme started
4-11-90. Walt, middle-aged husband of Phyllis, says he saw a saucer.
She, disbelieving, tries to talk him out of it. He decides to go
for a walk to visit Skeezix, his son. Today, Walt visits Skeezix at
the gas station where his son works. Walt says to a derisive, "Were
there any little green men?", that they had little heads and giant
bodies. This reminds us of the Russian Voronezh sighting and a
Kansas or Oklahoma sighting of about the same time, right? I wonder
where the cartoonist will take this theme?
Do any of you know of any comic strips that treated the UFO in a series
over some days, developing the theme? This can't be a first, right? There
are, of course, countless one panel gags about UFOs, and Hynek was famous
for his collection of them. But is this the first comic strip series to
treat the UFO?

Report on new movie:
Alien Seed. Released 1989. I.P. Associates(?) Not distributed in
theaters apparently. I found a copy of the video tape only at a 7-11
convenience store. No regular independent or chain video stores in my
area had the movie. Stars Erik Estrada and nobody else famous. Produced,
directed, etc., by a small Colorado-based company. I think Estrada served
as a co-producer. Most of the principals served more than one role. I
would guestimate the budget was less than a million.
PLOT. A pregnant abductee is shot by a renegade, former MJ-12 operative.
An abduction researcher arrives too late to interview her, but learns that
her sister has also been abducted and impregnated. The rest of the movie
concerns their flight from the murderous renegade MJ-12 operative and
two equally murderous, regular MJ-12 thugs. At one point the UFO researcher
explains MJ-12 to the sister abductee. This two minute explanation did not
deviate significantly from the Moore/Friedman/Maccabbee plausible scenario of
MJ-12. This means that the writer is fully cognizant of the UFO literature
about MJ-12 speculation. The MJ-12 thugs wanted to kill the pregnant
abductee because they feared the alien baby would disrupt the world social
and economic order. In the end, all the MJ-12 thugs were killed by the abductee
after they got the UFO researcher. So, the message is that the alien baby
would live to do its work.
EVALUATION. The acting was bad. The special effects were bad. The car
chase scenes went on too long. The only thing recommending this movie is the
very explicit use of UFO lore. There was a minimum of traditional science
fiction/fantasy mixed in with straight UFO information in this movie.
I can get more exact information if people want it. It would be interesting
to know how this movie came to be made. Why it is distributed in such a
limited way. How the writer came to be so well acquainted with the latest
MJ-12 information. To my knowledge, MJ-12 was made public in the summer of
1987 in Washington, D.C. at the MUFON conference, right? This movie must have
been a year in the writing and making right? So, the writer only had a year
to decide to make the movie.
Got any thoughts?
Keith

You might try getting in touch with Stan Gordon, head of PASU. He used to log
into Alpha once in a blue moon. I'll get you his number in a minute.
[1 minute later]
OK, its 1-412-838-7768. Tell him I said hi, and to get his butt online.

No, Mike's alive and well in Los Angeles. I've just talked to him and he'll
be back on soon.

My sympathies to you about your grandfather and I'm sorry to hear of your run
of bad luck. I'll hope things work out for the better for you in California.
As far as temporarily hubbing echos it was no problem. We're all part of the
same family.

I called and left a message on his answering maching and gave him your message
about getting his butt online (I hope he has a sense of humor). Maybe we can
convince him to get a computer/modem setup (?)
PS - Did you know that he's also the State director for MUFON?

Mike, you might want to check out two books on the subject.
CLEAR INTENT (I've forgotten the authors) and ABOVE TOP SECRET by
Timothy Good. Above Top Secret seems to be the best of the two,
though at times it seems a little incredible. I think one thing
that hurts the book are some references taken from the National
Enquirer. But it is still good nonetheless and raises some good
points.

Subject: Chronocentricity
Date: 14 Apr 90 16:03:00 GMT
Hi Gary
That was a long but highly perceptive message on
chronocentricity, ie our tendency to explain phenomena we don't
understand in terms of our most recent technology.
The explanation of the brain is certainly badly presented,
since as you say, it is now seen as just a big mega-computer. Our
modern super-computers are now big enough to exhibit some sign of
self-awareness or consciousness of the kind we see in lower animals
such as insects or slugs. Yet we know that the insEct responds in
ways which prove its sense of consciousness (fear, aggression etc.)
wheras the biggest computer behaves exactly like what it is - a dumb
machine. Clearly the brain cannot be described in terms analogous
to a digital computer.
I have always wondered what it is that separates animate life
from inanimate life. Is it merely the complexity of the connections
etc., or are living molecules responding to a subtle force of nature
which acts, or is detectable at, only the molecular level (somewhat
similar to the weak nuclear force), a force or influence which we
could call the `life force', for want of a better term. If such a
force existed, it would explain why our supercomputers cannot
respond to it, wheras a slug or even a sperm cell can do so with
ease. It would also explain why life evolved from the smallest
unit (DNA molecule) upwards, and not from the largest downwards (as
our computers have done with the evolution from valves to
transistors to chips).
Life has another puzzle too. Life began perhaps 1,000 million
years ago on Earth, and evolved to result in the present range of
life forms including us - according to orthodox science. The
problem I have with that theory is that 1,000 million is nowhere
near long enough to achieve present life forms on the basis of
random life forms. The complexity of the human brain is
mind-boggling, and it was created by a series of mutational
accidents over 1,000 million years? I think 100,000 million years
at least would be needed for this. Unless... there is a force or
influence which accelerates the process. If a life force literally
`forces' evolution along, then 1,000 million years becomes feasible.
Once again, a very interesting message you posted.
Regards

A friend told me that a few days ago he could the tail end of a TV
item that carried a movie footage from Belgium. My friend who has
looked at a lot of UFO footages over the years described it as looking
like the typical effect one gets of a defocused image of say Venus,
only difference being that this one for a change was apparently a
daylight footage. He wasn't very impressed. Thats all I know. Regards
from down under.

Further to my earlier comments about the Belgian film, the following
item appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald, April 19, 1990:
"Belgian Air Force has been on alert for 3 nights running. 2 aircraft
equipped with IR cameras and electronic sensors have been patrolling
the skies. Down below, the Belgian police has kept a constant watch,
helped by more than 1,000 concerned civilians. Along the border with
Germany, 20 lookout posts have been set up. Their target: a UFO. Since
December, there have been 800 reported sightings, which are being
earnestly examined by the Belgian Society for Studying Spacial
Phenomena. In the Easter operation, the world's TV crews camped out
on a chilly Ardennes airfield to get the first pictures. But the event
made rather poor viewing. Several times the UFO was "seen" from the
ground, but each time the aircraft got there too late. Scientists on
the ground appear to have produced an image of the object. It is a
triangle 30 metres to 50 metres in diameter, with red, green and white
lights at the corners, 10 times brighter than any star. It has a
convex underbelly and makes a whistling noise."
Sounds like it could be rather interesting. Anybody else out there
have anymore information.

Subject: Stealth Corvette?
Date: 27 Apr 90 01:18:59 GMT
I posted this to paranet shortly before it went down, so here's
a reposting, with the assumption that it never made it to begin with.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
A friend of mine just recently showed me the May, 1990 issue of
Car and Driver magazine. On page 125 is an article entitled
"Stealth Corvette". It's not a joke. The gist of the article is
about a man, "Bob" (not his real name), who modified a 1986 Corvette
to make it "invisible" to conventional detection methods such as radar.
"Bob" is doing this in Nevada. Allow me to quote a few lines from
the closing paragraphs.....
"Bob is a tinkerer..."
"Bob would like to listen for extraterrestrial perpetrators..."
"That's not a pipe dream--not for Bob." "Nobody's been able to get
into Groom Lake, a supersecret military base in Nevada also known
as Area 51, Site S4. Bob says, "They have nine UFO's kept up there".
Well, there probably isn't any significance to this article. Some
possibilities:
a.) "Bob" is someone who really has the Corvette, and knows about
Lazar's story. As a sort of joke, he chose the name "Bob" for
the interview with Car and Driver.
b.) "Bob" really is Robert Lazar.....Naaah!
c.) "Bob" and his "Stealth" Corvette is simply another piece of
disinformation to throw us off-track.
Just thought you might find this interesting.
