Well, Jim... There it is in print. (The Gulf Breeze vested interest
post). Haven't we been saying the same things here in the net for quite
some time?

How many of you have had sightings of UFO's in the Central Florida
area. Don't be shy speak up. I'm working on a thesis and would like
some input.

You might want to investigate the Oviedo Lights.

Alright, but where would I go? And what could I use for sources. I
live the other way out, but point me in the right direction and I'll
go. Thanks loads!!!

Hi Jim. The Japanese "Moonshadow" tape is a new one on me, too.

Of course, any probe sent around the moon could create such a shadow,
including our own Apollo missions and the many Russian Luna probes, many of
which orbited the moon for some time if memory serves. Is this a "vintage
tape"
or is it relatively recent?

Best,
Clark

Inhave we deed...er, indeed we have.

In the interest of fairness and objectivity, we should not rely solely
on the word of Bill Pitts that MUFON, Andrus or Maccabee have benefitted
financially from the book. But the reports are consistent, numerous, and
reliable enough that this should become a major issue, and I would be
very interested in their response to the charge.

IF the reports are true, and I have every reason to believe they are, I
would like to go on record as saying it is an abomination against
science to accept honoraria for ANY reason from a UFO witness, save
possibly reasonable out-of-pocket expenses, and then only under unusual
circumstances. I don't claim that ufologists should not profit from
their efforts, but there are other, less suspect ways of doing it.

Well, I saw it at Lear's house about 3 years ago. I got the impression
that it was a few months old at that point. I'd heard of it
independently before that from Dale Goudie. Other than that, I've seen
nothing on it since.

Yeah, I've always had a bit of caution if not outright paranoia when it
comes to police powers. Sometimes the "drug problem" makes me wonder
about if it is designed to trash the Bill Of Rights. Watched a 60 minutes
one time on that subject and got REAL paranoid. The reaction that most
people gave due to the influx of narcotics into middle class America was
that the police were welcome to stop and search them anytime no holds
barred. Maybe we are lucky that the "aliens" have not shown themselves
openly. We might wake up in a police state overnight.

-+Bill Pitts, director of the New Project Blue Book, on Gulf Breeze:
-+
-+<< The reason I resigned from MUFON is because of Walt's (MUFON's) very
-+positive reaction to, and the promotion of, the alleged Gulf Breeze incident.
-+This is an out-right hoax, and was brought to Walt's attention, and which he
-+has `neatly' ignored. He has received a vested interest, financially, in this
-+case, and has offered only cursory information in the `MUFON Journal' which
-+would tend to explain away the matters - and which would place him, and his
-+enthusiasm (misplaced) in a bad light. Walt Andrus, Bruce Maccabee, and others,
-+were, in effect, paid off. This has no place in an honest evaluation.
-+
-+There is more, but the above will suffice at this time. Walt is endeavoring to
-+build membership forsaking honesty. Ed Walters/Hansen, (among other alias's) is
-+a convicted felon, and is not the citizen Walt has been promoting.
-+ >>
-+
-+Source: The Orbiter, published by Jim Melesciuc, former MASS MUFON director -
-+who also resigned because of the Gulf Breeze case.

Being relatively new to the Paranet discussions (I started with Paranet
Newsletter #90), I am not too familiar with the Gulf Breeze controversy
and it appears that I may have recently been sucked into purchasing a
recently published book "The Gulf Breeze Sightings", by Ed and Frances
Walters (suspicious in itself), published by Morrow, copyright 1990.

I would like to be filled in on this controversy. Jim, why does Bill Pitts
say "this is an out-right hoax..."? Has the Gulf Breeze incident been
proven to be a hoax? What is the consensus among other Paranet participants?

I have only read about 30% of the book so far, except that I did read the
appendices. In those appendices are some rather lengthy refutations by
Walters against claims by "debunkers" which, incidently, he does NOT name.
He refutes these claims photo-by-photo.

If I was really gullible (or even mildly so for that matter), I would have to
say that his response to the debunkers is darned convincing. Yet, without
knowing who these "debunkers" are and what they really said, I have to take
his statements with a grain of salt.

On a slightly different note, Walters is said to be a convicted felon. This
is not necessarily relevant. But, I must ask; What was the felony? What are
the other "alias's" that Pitts refers to?

In short, why should I believe that Gulf Breeze is nonsense?
