Gary,

Len Stringfield is still around, but not as active as once
before.

Here is Len's mailing address:

Len Stringfield
4412 Grove Avenue
Cincinnati, OH 45227

The last time I talked to him, he was still working with MUFON
and publishing a crash retrieval update.

-+ My question is --has there ever been any serious, applied
-+ (as
-+ opposed to theoretical) scientific research done on the question
-+ of time
-+ travel? If so, can anyone provide details (organization or
-+ institution,
-+ personnel involved, publications resulting, etc.)? What about the
-+ U. S.
-+ Government -- e.g., is there any evidence that DARPA or other
-+ research
-+ agencies have even so much as funded surveys in this area? In
-+ responding,
-+ please remember that my question focuses on APPLIED research and
-+ development, not theoretical physics. Thanks for the input.
-+ -------

I don't know of anything being done along these lines, and I would tend
to doubt it. I think the vast majority of scientists accept that time
travel is impossible.

However, one gentleman claims that it is not only possible, but that it
has been successfully accomplished via a government project known as
"Project Phoenix." His name is Al Bielek, and he talks about it in the
taped speech that ParaNet is offering. Basically, he claims that Project
Phoenix took place in an underground facility near Montauk, Long Island.
The head of the project was John von Neumann, who isn't really dead, you
understand. It sounds like the stuff of bad sci-fi, but Bielek seems
like such a credible, rational person. The tape is worth it, if only as
a case study in how easy it is to be convincing, even when you're
telling a whopper. As I mentioned, I hope to do a follow-up interview
with Bielek in the near future.

Keith:

Very interesting about Reich. I agree with Wilson that Gardner is among
the worst of the worst at CSICOP. He seems every bit as dogmatic as a
Creationist.

One question, though. Wilson laments that no one has disproved Reich's
theories in a scientific journal. Has anyone shown them to be
"consistent with reality" in a scientific journal? Scientists shouldn't
be called upon to disprove EVERY theory that comes along, merely the
ones that seem to have some validity at first. For instance, has anyone
proven in a refereed journal that Pluto is NOT made of lime sherbet?

-+ Jim,
-+ We are currently updating our UFO Reports Data Base and will
-+ incorporate your S-P rating in the same. Many thanks for your
-+ help in this matter.
-+ Very sorry I misspelled your surname in a previous message.

Quite alright, Mr. Goddich. :-)

We're flattered that our rating system will be incorporated into another
UFO database. It is currently used internally by MUFON as well, which is
fine with us, but they call it the Speiser Rating. I would prefer that
it be referred to as the ParaNet/Hynek Rating.

In the reply form I recently posted for ordering copies of the Al
Bielek/PhilEx tape, I neglected to put a space for indicating your tape
format.

PLEASE INDICATE YOUR FORMAT ANYWHERE ON THE REPLY FORM.

If you do not indicate a tape format, VHS will be assumed. We have VHS
and Beta, I am checking on 8mm, and PAL is a good possibility for you
fellas down under.

Well, in this morning's _Columbus Dispatch_ (2/17/90) there was an
article concerning a Russian who has been picking up strong signals
from an area of the sky near Altair (in the constellation of "Alquipa",
as the story sez......). As these signals (well, actually radiation
might be a better word) are so powerful, he has deduced that this must
be the outpouring of energy from some alien industry, and that it is
evidently such a grand affair, these aliens must live on another planet
altogether....that is, not on the same planet as that which 'houses'
their industry.
