Bryon, have you looked into ooparts? (ooparts==out of place artifacts)
There are a rather large number of these ooparts that I would think that
you could begin to draw some tentative conclusions. Also, what about
the legends concerning ancient flying machines powered by mercury?
There are a number of legends that seem to speak of a very advanced
earth race in the distant past. Could this be the start of a search for
alien activity on earth, or evidence that this isn't the first time for
a highly advanced global civilization on earth?
Before someone jumps in with the standard accepted dates for human
existence, etc. Let me say that I am aware of those dates. But let me
also point out that I don't necessarily accept or reject dates alone.
Example, according to archaeologists and anthropologists, my Native
American ancestors entered the North American continent some 30,000
years ago. They have consistently ignored the oral history and legends
of the tribes--especially the Eastern and Latin/South American tribes.
Our legends tell of escaping a great catastrophe in the east by moving
to the west. Then later, due to some frictions, moving northward and
then westward or eastward (for another group), while the remainder moved
southward or remained where they were. Where this an isolated legend,
then I would have to chalk it up to pure fabrication. But this legend,
in one form or another, is found in a great many tribes in North America
and South America. Yet the establishment scientists have consistently
refused to acknowledge such legends as having any basis in reality and
fact. The dates of the catastrophe are not totally clear but would have
been long before the 30,000 years ago mark based on some of the
descriptions.
Another thing, Bryon, there are a number of references to the Pleiades
in some of the tribal legends. You might want to dig a little deeper in
the Native American tribal legends and lore (this includes tribes in
South America--Mayan, Inca, Aztec, etc.).
If you would like more information on ooparts, drop me a note via the
electronic mail facilities.

Your comments on the Mars face are right on the mark (more or less :-)
). I would add a couple of other thoughts though. I don't think it's
fair to characterize the mainstream scientific community as having
dismissed the "Face". As I understand it, there are planning to do a
much more through fly by and get much better photos for analysis on the
next flight. What the mainstream scientists havn't done, and what the
"Mars face fanatics" seem to ahve a problem with, is that they aren't
willing to come out and act like the case for artifical construction fo
the face is a proven fact. I don't see why they should be attacked for
what seems to me a fairly reasonalbe position. One of the things I
have to wonder, in regard to the face, is if it is, in fact, an
artifact of some prior intelligence, why would they have left something
that is somewhat ambiguous, like a face, and a 5 sided pyramid. It
seems to me anyways, that it would be both easier and more obvious, to
make something like a box, with a circle in it, with a triangle in
that, and to repeat that a couple of times in a geometric pattern. Why
leave something that requires an obtuse analysis of it's proportions??

You're assuming that it was left as some kind of distinct signal "To Men
of Earth". Perhaps it was just a giant monument to some guy who had a
rather plain-looking face. And maybe the pyramids are five-sided for
some rather obscure cultural reason, or some engineering oddity we
haven't looked at. The point being, you can't ask, "Why wouldn't they do
this, that, or the other thing," except as matters of pure curiosity.
Time, and closer observation, will tell all.

But the brutality is greatly mitigated if you can provide SOMETHING to
back up your statements, or at least make your statements both
internally and externally consistent. It doesn't take a physicist to
know that the atomic weight of a brand new element is not something
forgotten easily. That he has forgotten so easily is inconsistent with
what I perceive would happen to anyone telling the truth under normal
circumstances.
No one is saying we should ignore Lazar. But I, for one, am not willing
to get caught with my pants down.

Thanks Jim. I was mostly questioning the course description which describes
the instructor as a "recognized authority". I wonder who recognizes him; his
mother :-)? Well anyway, I didn't recognize the name but of course I'm no
authority. Thanks!

It seems to me to be fairly simple to verify schooling. There are yearbooks
and if the local library didn't have a copy I'm sure the school library would.
I still have my report cards back to 1st grade (but I don't know why I've
saved them.)

Two comments - does anyone have or know of a publicly available copy of
the 'Mars Face' in (preferbly Mac or C64) binary format? I have looked
on GEnie... otherwise, could someone E-Mail me a copy?
Also - I have not seen any discussion of the excellent novel "A Fearful Symmetry"
regarding a President of the US having a 'close encounter'. The author shows
a thorough knowledge of the paranormal literature, along with good
writing, humor and far more talent than the nonsense Streiber has
produced....

That whole article reminded me of Joe Newman and his stories. It also
sounded a lot like the style of the S-4 tales. I may have misread the
story, but I got the impression that Lazar never actually drove the car
under jet power while the newsmen were there, only that he fired up
the "jet". In the absence of any info on what model honda this was,
and factoring in what honda might have been selling in 1982, his claims
that he had the thing up to 135 mph with essentially no modifications
to the car, leave me just a tad skeptical. Having driven a car that
was at least somewhat designed and modified for high speed to a speed
of 137 mph, I find the idea of driving an unmodified 82 or earlier
honda, and one powered by a jet engine, at that speed, real difficult
to swallow. I think Lazar's main proficiency is in the area of
spinning tall tales.

>>"you can't ask..."
I'm not sure I am willing to accept the idea that while others are
free to speculate to the nth degree as to what it could be, I'm not
allowed to "ask" in relation to parts of those specuations. Not that I
disagree with the premise that it might just be a monument not
necessarily for our benefit. My position remains that it is certainly
intreging enough that it demands further investigation, but that it is
a far from proven artifact.
