ParaNet has enjoyed continual growth and visibility in the UFO
community and the general public. Through the efforts of all
involved in this venture, the staff, the subscribers, and the
contributors, we have made many inroads and have
established ourselves as truly the leaders in UFO and paranormal
information providers. I am very grateful to all of you for this.
There is none other like us in the world.
The time has come to venture out into the world and attempt to
grasp the essence of what is truly going on by virtue of
investigation and reporting. The wheels of progress grind slowly
however we have come to the juncture of a major step --
investigation.
It is with great pride that I introduce Robert B. Klinn as
ParaNet's Director of Investigations/Research. Bob's biography
and talents are outstanding and he will enhance the ability of
ParaNet to establish itself even further as the leader.
Robert B. Klinn, J.D., a graduate of the University of Illinois and
Southwestern University Law School in Los Angeles, holds an A.B. in
Political Science as well as a Juris Doctorate in Law.
A special investigator for the late Dr. J. Allen Hynek
(chief scientific consultant for the U.S. Air Force's Project Blue
Book, chairman of the Northwestern University Astronomy Department, director
of the Lindheimer Astronomical Research Center, and founder of the Center
for UFO Studies), Klinn helped Hynek in tracking hard-to-pin-down cases.
In California, Klinn was columnist, with David Branch, for The Orange County
Register's "The Continuing UFO," this country's only weekly, investigative
UFO column in a major daily newspaper.
In Los Angeles, Klinn produced and directed a pilot UFO news program for
KPFK-FM Radio.
He has investigated numerous UFO mysteries for NICAP, CUFOS, Hynek,
and for his column.
Invited by Hynek, Klinn presented a CUFOS paper analyzing a Susanville,
California, sergeant-detective's UFO photos -- computer-enhanced with
the help of scientists at NASA/JPL's Image Processing Laboratory -- and
The Center for UFO Studies published his findings in its Proceedings.
Klinn has also written for The Las Vegas Sun, Rainbow Publications/Probe
Magazine, Media Horizons/Laboratory Management, and Nash Publishing, for
which, along with David Branch, he was contracted to write Inquiry at
Redlands.
The U.S. Defense Department's Contract Administration Services Region's
Office of Industrial Security in Los Angeles awarded Klinn a certificate
and letters of appreciation for his defense work and presentations --
involving protecting against foreign control and espionage at Southern
California defense facilities and "Security In an Electronic Data
Processing Environment."
In the 70's and mid-80's, Klinn served on the legal staff of the U.S.
Small Business Administration, and through that agency the United Nations,
for 12 presidentially-declared disasters country-wide, including Guam,
where he helped Guamanians and the residents of the Marianas Islands --
through SBA loans -- to rebuild their homes and businesses after Typhoon
Pamela.
Just prior to his appointment with ParaNet, Klinn headed an
investigative/research/analysis company, doing research for law
firms, the State Bar of Nevada, and multi-national corporations.
With this, please welcome Bob to our ranks.
Sincerely,
Michael Corbin

Unfortunately I had to travel about 60 miles to Huntsville to the B. Dalton
book chain to pick up UFO Magazine. Found the October issue a week ago. It
is a very good magazine and worth the 60 mile drive... of course, there's
always subscriptions! Thanks for the information.

In the time-honored tradition of Physics, Element 115 needs a better name
than "Element 115."
I vote we call it....Learium?

<PS to Mike: If it turns out to be real, we'll call it Corbinium!>

Three comments today:
(1) Incredible as it may seem, some historical sightings of UFO's
flying in V- or wedge-formation have been identified as images of low-flying
migrating birds whose light-colored breasts reflect light.
(2) Element 115: I don't know any reason why 115 would be useful in
creating an antigravity field or creating antimatter, except possibly as an
energy source in some sort of fission reactor. There is a predicted quantum
mechanical "Island of Stability" around atomic numbers 112-116, but more recent
calculations suggest that none of these elements would be stable enough to be
isolated in macroscopic amounts. In contrast, only a few years ago some
physicists thought that these elements might have half-lives in the millions or
billions of years.
The German researchers have published their syntheses of the superheavy
elements through #109 (see Scientific American, 1988 or early 1989). There is
nothing unusual about the transuranium elements synthesized so far--their
properties more or less are as predicted by the laws of chemistry and physics,
and confirm the standard theories quite well.
Getting into the conditionally stable region superheavy appears to be
very difficult, but they are trying hard. At some point, the innermost electron
orbitals are inside the nucleus and e-capture prevails, so there are other
limits to potential stability.
I know of no evidence from studies of fission tracks or isotopic
ratios in meteorites or elsewhere to indicate that any nucleus heavier than
242 Pu is stable enough to occur naturally in any quantity. A fresh supernova
remnant would be the place to look, however.
Antimatter is made today in small amounts; beams of positrons and
antiprotons are used in particle accelerators. Neutral anti-hydrogen
(positrons orbiting antiprotons) would be hard to store, but certainly
synthesizable. It would be a great power source when it mutually annihilated
with normal matter.
So-called "strange matter" might also be an interesting power source
if it could be made in quantity and were stable. To my knowledge, the only
"strange" particles seen so far are certain mesons. These are extremely
unstable particles containing a quark and an antiquark. Even more hypothetical
are "charmed," "beautiful," and "truthful" matters containing the charm, beauty
or bottom, and truth or top quarks along with the lower mass ones.
(3) Reply to Marc Dantonio: While I'm in Houston, I don't have access
to my personal library, reprints, and Xerox collection, so it's difficult for
me to locate older references in the scientific literature. My apologies for
not documenting my comments more thoroughly. Both Paranet and Skeptics are
pretty informal, but both would be improved if more members would do their
homework. By the way Conn. Wesleyan is a great school; I have some friends who
were in the music progam their, especially ethno, gamelan, etc.

Hello, everyone! My name is Bob Sabo, and I live in Cape Coral, Fla. This is on the SW coast of Fla about 120 miles south of Tampa. I manage a Pizza Hut on Ft. Myers Beach, Fla. I have been interested in the paranormal for a long time especially UFO's. I
really want to become an active part of this net and I will do my best to promote this net in my area. I think that there is a lot of interest around here, so all I have to do is get the word around and I think that the results will be excellent. To descr
ibe myself, I am 43 years old, and an ex-Marine. I spent almost 3 years in Viet Nam. I am an ex-police officer and I used to work for the CIA in the late 60's. Well, I guess it's time to close for now, but am looking forward to hearing from all of you.

BS} Great Scott Mac, is all of your video equipment 8mm ?
Yep. I have a low-quality VHS player for bump-up, but I rarely use it.
BS} The new cameras with the 450 line res. are really great
BS} though I hear.
What's nice is being able to tape something on 8mm and then either watch it
directly at home, or bring a camcorder to a friend's house for easy viewing.

I agree. PErhaps you have read some of our materials on the
Lake Erie sighting in March 1988, which was observed by several
independent witnesses who have to this day never spoken with each
other. A photograph of one of the objects was taken, which was
identified by the other witnesses, including Coast Guard personnel.
The case is uploaded to Paranet under Lakerie.ufo (I think that's
the file name).
Best regards, Rick
